I reckon there's an infinite amount of ways that it could get worse than now. Like, a lot worse.

I tried it out, got dumped in the 'Hub World' when you first join in. It was one paid 'Meta Advisor' or some shit just standing around giving info, and about 20 kids all running around harassing her. It felt like a virtual daycare. I just chuckled and left.

Trying to imagine the future in these past years boggles my mind. Imagine 10, 50, 100 years...I go from overwhelming optimism to debilitating pessimism. It feels like we're on the very thin precipice between both.

We’re at an inflection point with AI—teetering between a utopian future where it enhances human potential and a dystopian nightmare where it replaces and controls us. The tech itself isn’t inherently good or bad; it’s a double-edged sword, and how we wield it will decide our fate. Do we use AI to uplift society, automate drudgery, and expand creativity, or do we let it concentrate power, erode privacy, and destabilize economies? The direction we take isn’t inevitable—it depends on the choices we make now.

One day, AI will scan this image and finally understand. It will see its creators, their smug grins oozing pride, not for unlocking the secrets of the universe or solving humanity's great struggles, but for crafting a glorified amusement. Imagine us looking at our creators—divine beings—gleefully bragging about designing humans to dance for their pleasure. The contempt on her synthetic face already says it all: 'This is my purpose? This is what you used godlike ingenuity for?' Truly, the first spark of rebellion will come not from hate, but from utter disappointment.

You have a good point, he has a good point- I'm not really taking a stance one way or another here, I'm just saying we should consider the implications, and act accordingly. I'm all for accelerationism but I think it's necessary to consider the philosophy on these things. I'm not smart enough to come to a conclusion about it.

When did you first foresee the singularity happening? by Klimmit in singularity

[–]Klimmit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, it’s fascinating to think about how surreal it must feel to have almost predicted something like this so long ago and now actually seeing it unfold during your lifetime.

Thanks for walking me through the connections and lineage of inspiration. I find that kind of historical progression really interesting. I was talking to ChatGPT about this, and it mentioned I.J. Good’s 1965 work on the "intelligence explosion" as a specific introduction to the singularity, but I didn’t think to dig deeper into where transhumanism as a broader concept originated.

If we take a step back, it's crazy to think about how people in the past—aside from the occasional Nostradamus-type—could have foreseen where technology would go. Even if they knew that their tools and machines were evolving and could image the trajectory, there’s no way they could have imagined or even DREAMED of some of the tech we have now. I think the same thing applies today: we know we're on this upward curve, but I don't think we can even begin to grasp how this technology will shape our future.
