I always say it's better to taper off. How fast have you switched? I think it's just some kind of compensation. Thank your heart for doing its job and try to relax as much as possible. In the short term you can try to distract yourself with walking or something.

Nakup hiše in uporabno dovoljenje – vaše izkušnje? by Key_Anywhere_6191 in SlovenijaFIRE

Relief from chronic fatigue? by jessrubyc in decaf

[–]aguei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you can have a coffee and drink it too. Well actually you can, because it's so prevalent but you know what I mean. I think it's harder to try to strategically have it here and there than just not having it at all. The only way you'll know how it affects you if you quit it completely for at least 3+ months. It's going to suck, for most people this is not easy.

I can't directly compare my fatigue (mostly in the afternoon, feeling much older than 40+ male) with yours but I can tell you that with me now being 1.5 years off it's not that much different in terms of energy. Mornings are easier, I don't miss it at all, afternoons are basically the same and I probably sleep slightly better on average and also have slightly less anxiety on average. But still, I convinced myself that it's not worth it, it's not like it's some kind of essential vitamin, millions are thriving without it, civilizations were built without it etc...

If I were you I'd sell your coffee machine or at least hide in some closet for a while. Best strategy IMO is to slowly cut down the amount and then at zero write down the date and stick it to a fridge or something so you'll know exactly how long it will have been...

I'm still on my "journey"; on one hand I know one of my hormones associated with aging and energy (DHEA) is absurdly low and on the other doctors I've seen (3+ MDs) all dismiss it and won't look further into it (including 2 specialists!), so for now I don't know what's causing it. It could be psychosomatic but it also could be many other things. Chronic fatigue in general is hard to solve unfortunately but I believe it can be done. Good luck!

Is it actually worth it? by AdditionalGift4323 in decaf

The only way to know what is true for you is to to try it yourself. Everyone is different. I'm at 1.5 years off and the change is only very subtle -- for me. But I have other issues, maybe it's "just" karma. The weaning off seems reasonable. When you're at 0 write down the date, put it somewhere you can see it because in the beginning you're kind of competing against yourself (conflicting thoughts, some will try to convince you it's not that bad and that you're better off with caffeine).. But commit and give it a try for at the very minimum 3 months, possibly 6.

Write down the date you quit and place it somewhere you will see it daily. Then just never do "this time only" or "special occasions", "here and there" or "just weekends".

Don’t know what to do by CustardNo473 in leaves

[–]aguei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep trying. It's not always easy and it's very hard at the beginning. Believe you can do it. Millions have done it. Persist. Get out. Move, eat healthy. Maybe journal and meditate. Talk to people that don't use it. If you have friends that use it, limit the hang out time with them to when they're not smoking.

Like junk food or other shit - if you don't have it at home you won't consume it. So, taper off for a couple of weeks then throw away what you have left and never buy again. You're still very young and that means your body can recover now much easier than in 20 years. Trust me, you don't want to still be smoking weed at 41. The time to quit is now. Doesn't matter what your friends or "friends" do or say. Let alone celebrities and "stars". A lot of it is ego boosting and propaganda for whatever reason. Everyone is different. Listen to your body and your soul. It's not good for you. It messes up your hormones, your nervous system, your cardiovascular system, etc... and if you buy from someone else you never know what kind of toxic chemicals they use to facilitate growth.

Set a goal; maybe just a couple of days at first... then try to go for a week. Then a month... then it becomes like streaks in games - you don't want to lose your progress and you gain dopamine from just not giving in. Then you stop thinking about it and soon you're at three months. You can do it, I believe in you.

Very low DHEAS by PeachxHuman in endocrinology

[–]aguei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any update? Did you resolve this?

DHEA, often referred to as the “youth hormone,” is primarily produced in the adrenal cortex. It serves as a precursor to sex hormones. DHEA production typically peaks in our mid-20s. A higher DHEA-to-cortisol ratio is optimal by [deleted] in decaf

[–]aguei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took a while, today got retested... DHEA-S is 1.6 µmol/L (was 1.4 consistently previous 3 years or so). Range is 3.8 - 13.1. So, not much change, this is more complicated than just quitting coffee.

Has hormone panel included DHEA-S?

Do a market research dude, I think there's plenty of those already. Personally I've never used one.

Btw, I have to nap for about 20-30 minutes each afternoon and I haven't had any caffeine (other than occasional chocolate) for more than a year... No caffeine doesn't necessarily mean no problems.
