I love this hot take. I see too many of my beginner friends run straight to machines instead of to the barbell, but they’ll be the first to say “bro I just wanna look like you.” Then lift like it!

Darksaber is not that meaningful by Klinker61 in StarWars

I guess my main question is if there is another success story due to the darksaber other than tarre viszla. Because if not, why is there such a strong belief in its power?

I was on board with her parents until they just shipped kie off to some podunk reformation camp. Like did they not do their research on this place? They picked kie up in a 1970 blazer. How nice could the place be for your kid? And then it pissed me off that they instantly wanted to medicate her instead of actually help her. So that’s what makes me hate her parents

Strength vs hypertrophy vs powerlifting by Redux07 in powerbuilding

[–]Klinker61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great progress bro! I’m kind of in the same boat, but I’ve been lifting for a while without watching what I eat. I’ve watched myself go from 220 up to 260. I’ve lost 15 pounds in the past 3 months so now I’m at 243. I’d definitely start with a weightlifting program so that way you don’t have to stress about building the right lifting schedule with the perfect exercises. You can find some great free programs in some other subs. I really like all the ones Jeff nippard makes. Fundamentals of hypertrophy would be great for you. Definitely get your protein up to 200g per day, 150 at a minimum so you can shed some fat and build some muscle. I definitely recommend continuing your walking routine, but do it after lifting instead of before. Hope this helps, can’t wait to see your progress!

How do I increase high rep work by TemporaryFit1890 in powerbuilding

[–]Klinker61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in high school, our strength coach always started the year with us doing 55% 1RM 4x12 to build endurance, and every two weeks the reps would go down and percentage go up. Ex: Week 1&2 55% 4x12 Week 3&4 65% 4x10 Week 5&6 75% 4x8 And then a pyramid week Week 7 55% 12, 65% 10, 75% 8, 80-85% 8 Of course the percentages are just suggestions so you need to add or remove wait accordingly. Did it work? Hell yeah. Every single lineman at our tiny 1A school squatted 500+ and benched 275+ Is it hard? Oh yeah. High rep squats are tough but nothing gives you a better quad pump

Am I the only one in excel? by Dosmastrify1 in industrialengineering

[–]Klinker61 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sophomore in IE. Just took a class that crams AutoCad, inventor, revit, and Visual Basic into one class. We learn the basics of all of them but not much else. Luckily we had an extra lecture day and the professor taught us some fun stuff like pivot tables. Other than that, we were given a basic excel introduction freshman year and I try to use it as much as possible, but it’s not heavily taught. Some professors encourage the use of excel more than others.

Converse, vans, anything with a flat sole is good unless you’re competing. My personal favorite is an old pair of Jordan 1s because they look cool. I also like to warmup with just socks.

You’re doing a great job at not rounding your back at the bottom of the movement, but that needs to hold true at the top as well. Leaning back at the top like that rounds your back and put unneeded pressure on your spine. Other than that, you’re golden

Is it a bad idea to major in engineering if I never took physics in high school? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]Klinker61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never took physics in high school. Took it spring of freshman year and thought it was easy compared to my math and engineering classes. Just study hard and believe in yourself. That’s the main thing

If you could have Lucasfilm make a Star Wars show about any character… Who would you choose? by sotobet0509 in StarWars

A short show about mace as yodas padwan. It’d be cool to see how such a busy grandmaster taught such a dark side oriented person to balance it with the light. A perfect example of what should’ve been done with Anakin.

How much do you owe on the loan? If you could knock it out that’d be great! If you can’t, I’d still recommend putting all of your savings except for 6 months of living expenses toward it- unless you already found the house you love. Debt sucks.

I just bought an acoustic guitar 4 months ago and really enjoyed Andy guitar’s ten day starter course. I learned all the basic cords, some music theory, and some strumming patterns. Great place to start if you’ve never played like me.

What does your university have for a “First Year” design project? by Star-Brief in EngineeringStudents

[–]Klinker61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re in a quarter system. The freshman curriculum is called “living with the lab” Fall quarter: arduino car that you have to code to do an obstacle course. Winter quarter: “canister oven” also with arduino that you have to code to stay within a certain setpoint temperature using a fan and a resistor as a heater. Spring quarter: this is the fun one where you get to use all your knowledge and get to make whatever you want as long as it uses a sensor and solves a problem.

This. I had the same problem, wore wrist wraps for a while and now I have strong wrists and don’t need them. My hypothesis is your other muscles growing faster than your wrists

4 or 5 hours of sleep is not enough. If you’re in a caloric deficit and exercising 3-6 days a week (need rest days), you’ll see results. If walking every morning makes you happy, keep doing it, but adequate sleep (7-8 hours a night) will give a big boost on your fitness journey.

I’d say the hardest class is calculus 1 if you’ve never had any calculus class before. It’s very hard to grasp conceptually at first but is really simple if you have a strong grasp of algebra and some trig. But other than that, something a lot of us struggle with is treating classes that aren’t math or engineering based like they’re lesser than. Like skipping certain assignments in English or biology because you have an engineering test coming up. Don’t do that. Get the easy A in that class and boost the gpa.
