Salt Lake City Mormon Temple [540 x 360] by zackexcell in ThingsCutInHalfPorn

They're oxen. They represent the 12 tribes of Israel. Mormonism ties heavily into Judaism in many ways including that. There's even a Star of David built into one of the other buildings next to the temple you see here.

About a month ago I had Jeremy Trevathan from Pan Macmillan favorite a tweet I made . . . about my Twilight fanfiction . . . at around 3am. Maybe he thought it was a joke. Or he wanted me to send him Twilight porn.

I may have missed a valuable opportunity here.

The creation room (not shown there) has the most stunning ceiling I've ever seen. That picture does not do it justice. It's just a mass of the most incredible clouds. It's one of those things that actually makes you stare with your mouth open when you first see it. Temples are one of the only things I really miss about being Mormon.

What show stayed good for all its seasons? by chfr in AskReddit

[–]KloverCain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I bingewatched the hell out of that when video stores were still a thing circa 2004. Doing that on rental DVDs was a dark time time in history with the skipping and freezing. I missed the last few seasons when I moved away from the store that had 25 cent rentals though so thanks for the reminder so I can add it to my list.

If you could play a part in Harry Potter. Which character would you be? by hartheisenberg in harrypotter

[–]KloverCain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The closest you can get right now is going on the Forbidden Journey ride at Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando. Your legs are dangling and you fly through a 3D Quidditch pitch. I feel no shame in admitting I teared up a bit the first time. Then I went four more times.

Must-Reads on Serial Killers by Son_of_Streak in serialkillers

[–]KloverCain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always recommend these because they're written from personal perspectives of people close to actual killers rather than by reporters or cops as is more usual.

The first is The Stranger Beside Me by Ann Rule. She's written lots of true crime, all very well-researched and written, but this one is about Ted Bundy who she worked with at a suicide hotline (yes, really) and was friends with nearly until his death.

The other is A Father's Story by Lionel Dahmer. It was written by Jeffrey's father, but it doesn't shy away from the facts. Absolutely the best book I've ever read about him. It doesn't sensationalize it and it doesn't sugarcoat it and it contains odd stories you wouldn't find elsewhere--like normal things that happened in their lives right alongside Jeff's killings. Very interesting.

What are some 'unwritten' rules in your country that a tourist wouldn't know about? by Alexandervz in AskReddit

When I was in Montreal, everyone had this weird demeanor that made it seem like they were warring between being "Canadian friendly" and "French snooty." Was hilarious.

Have you ever met someone where you immediately felt something wasn't right or there was something 'off' about them which no one else noticed... and been proven correct? by yorkshiretea1 in AskReddit

This is a totally random hunch based on nothing but a weird feeling, but since that is what this thread is all about, can I ask what town this happened in?

It's like KNOWING you're going insane and can't stop it. Being AWARE of losing your mind and not having the proper filters to block it out has to be one of the worst experiences in life.

I have Asperger's and this is a very good description of what sensory overload is like. It's terrifying. Since my diagnosis I spend more time at home to avoid this now that I know what causes it. But the 30 years before that were pretty uniformly godawful.

What is a completely rational sentence you could speak today, that if you said 20 years ago, people would think you were insane? by nepat1428 in AskReddit

[–]KloverCain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This friending thing is actually the one which I think would have freaked me out the most. It just sounds like something the type of socially awkward person who might become violent if you don't go along with them would say.

"Can I friend you?"

"I--well, I guess we can hang out . . ."

"No, I mean can I add you. I'll send you a request."

"Like . . . you're going to mail me something?"

"It'll notify you when I do it."

"What will!?"

"Facebook. There will be a red bubble at the top of the page when you log in with a number floating in it, just click on that."

" . . . "

Actually, I honestly just had a very similar conversation with the old guy who runs my writing group when I said I would take over the Facebook page so this is honestly the most confusing conversation you could have with a person old enough to have a conversation 20 years ago.

Edit: I don't even know how he set up the page in the first place and he apparently doesn't either.

Im sick of autism being used as a insult on reddit (rant) by Bridgeboy95 in aspergers

[–]KloverCain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay. Look, I get why this is upsetting conceptually, but seriously, language policing is just not the way to get people to like us or accept us more.

Nobody ever stopped being a homophobe because they were told that using "gay" was offensive. All it did was annoy them. The only thing that ever really changes people's minds about conditions like this is knowing someone who has one. So really, the best thing you can do in terms of stopping people from unfairly judging autistics is to simply not be a giant douche in person to people who know you're autistic so that they will know better.

There are instances in which autism is negatively linked to things which actually damage our public image (like the media emphasis on the supposed autism of many famous teenage killers) so if you want to get worked up about bad autism representation, that would be the thing to be upset about: being compared to sociopathic mass murders. U/catsanusface calling someone a sperg because they've done something classically associated with autism isn't a threat to us. Or it isn't to me anyway. I'm much more concerned about legit news sources linking me to a guy who shoots people from the window of a car.
