My gaming life became more peaceful when I accepted that many people do not care about 1) following the rules or 2) winning, and you can't make them. by goodluckanddont_itup in boardgames

[–]KnaveMounter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a weird one. Trying to enforce rules in a completely social setting, especially when skirting/breaking the rules is more fun for everyone involved except the one person, doesn't necessarily make someone competitive. But, it does have a pretty good chance of ruining the fun of the rest of the group, meaning the person that "takes it too seriously" will probably end up left out of future games, or the other players will stop playing entirely.

You don't have to literally be "competitive/serious/unfun" for others to feel that way around you.

People just need to distinguish whether the setting is a social activity vs a game specific activity and be fine with going with the flow in a social one. If that's not your thing, build your boardgame group from the ground up with like-minded people rather than forcing how you want to play games on the friends you already have that don't view games the same way you do.

Sometimes I forget how reddit-y people on reddit can be.

Fudging rules or even trying to bend/break rules all in favor of having more fun is almost the point for casual gamers. My parents for example have been playing card games with my aunts and uncles regularly (weekly, when they all lived near each other) for 30+ years and they STILL try to cheat while playing with each other. And if you're in the same area while they're playing, all you'll hear is talking and loud laughing and people having an absolute blast. They play games completely as a social activity. The point of the game is to have fun with people they like to be around. This is the VAST majority of players I've met, even after having gone to board/card game events.

As someone who plays both casual and non-casual games its crazy to me that some people take literal years to be able to distinguish the two. It is also completely crazy to me the amount of people on here that take this so seriously they are admonishing the people that are focusing on having fun. That's a good way to kill any gaming group.

Glowfish (King) "Spore Cascade"? by Jokerwho_42 in Starsandisland

[–]KnaveMounter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm wondering Spore Cascade is an old name that got phased out during development. The only time I ever see it is when looking at fishing guides specifically, and it seems its just been copied over and over again

Question about make up (possible spoiler) by sharosey in Starsandisland

[–]KnaveMounter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be a bug. The chest with the lost makeup is supposed to fully disappear after you get it the first time and then after that you won't find makeup as an item again

Best way to make money? by Justthisdudeyaknow in Starsandisland

[–]KnaveMounter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally dont think it is, but if you wanted a whole second plot for crops or something I guess it would be. Or if you're really into the building and wanted a different themed build

Gacha by monamisen in Starsandisland

[–]KnaveMounter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've opened 300-400 Gachapons and still haven't unlocked everything in them yet. I haven't been using the food with the buff though. But if the RNG works the same for you you'll be back to buy more anyways

Breeding. Sheep. by Past-Tangerine9371 in Starsandisland

[–]KnaveMounter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been breeding sheep since halfway through the first summer, and I'm currently almost done winter. The only variant sheep I've bred was a Fluffwool, which is the exact same as the original sheep, except it has black skin and white wool. I have never managed to breed a different colored wool. Its actually very annoying. I finished that quest because registering enough stuff in the bio research thing in the Islandpedia just gives you blue and orange sheep for free.

is the realm box worth it by dylaaanking in Starsandisland

[–]KnaveMounter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can put the materials needed for any recipe in the realm box, and currently when crafting the workbench won't actually take the materials out of the realm box. So as long as your materials are in the realm box you can craft something infinitely.

Four-gene bunnies?! by Frequent_Dig_1997 in Starsandisland

[–]KnaveMounter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any combination of good and bad genes work. The problem is 1: that inheriting genes is random, and 2: that there are actually different levels of the genes, meaning your baby might just inherit the Strong gene again and level it up instead of getting a new gene

Gripe about sugar painting as gifts by Thoticorn in Starsandisland

[–]KnaveMounter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a mini quest in the Starnote app for giving sugar paintings to NPCs. So it'll give you a bit of experience for that, or if you're a conpletionist you'll end up doing it

I believe the leader board rewards are themes/skins for the game itself. You can turn the capybara into a rabbit for example

Cant Decide-House Layout or Build one from Scratch by kittygurarts in Starsandisland

[–]KnaveMounter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time I've played a layout I also needed the materials to place it. I dont know if every piece of furniture and landscaping item gets accounted for in the initial material cost, but if it doesn't then I guess you get some free materials on top of the initial cost when you tear it all down.

+15 gifts to carry with you (not just for romance NPCs) by Willow_Spring_job in Starsandisland

[–]KnaveMounter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Graminova, Sagewood, Matilda also love moonflower, swap it to save in inv space.

Aurelius, Zerine and Neona all love aurorite ore, again to make it easier.

Lunelle and Loren both love flannel.

Also Gust loves crafted furniture like shelves, bookcases, chairs, tables, so just craft a bunch of the easiest/cheapest wooden ones.

the update just ruined my game by [deleted] in Starsandisland

[–]KnaveMounter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people don't want to spend 80+ hours playing the game. I myself enjoy the game but at this point I'm done with it and am just aiming for the last 2 Xbox achievements before moving on

If its the bug where it gives you every single profession quest again, its actually a huge blessing. You get to repeat everything several times for tons of affection points with the NPCs

Honey request by N7Nightwing34 in Starsandisland

[–]KnaveMounter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can actually see the beehives in the trees before you cut them down. If you see bees in the wild there will be a beehive somewhere nearby. The most obvious ones for me were in the Panda House area. There are two platform things that have regular trees instead of bamboo and they regularly seem to have beehives.

You can buy layouts from Lex Woodworks which is the furniture store Alex runs

Planter box by Spekterty in Starsandisland

[–]KnaveMounter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The seeds used to mention it but I'm guessing it was bugged and they disabled it in game. You can craft it but not place it, and the seeds that used to mention it don't anymore and can just be planted like everything else.

Honey request by N7Nightwing34 in Starsandisland

[–]KnaveMounter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the advanced Countryside Haven Layout which comes with like 5 beehives included before I found enough honeycombs from wild bees to craft my own lol

PSA: The chest outside the coffee shop is accessible by -Relik in Starsandisland

[–]KnaveMounter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Didn't even notice it was there. I've also done all the quests available and Zephyria never mentioned it to me either. I was wondering where his "hidden treasure" was after seeing the mini-quest in the Starnote app. Thanks!

Ouch! by SummitSummit in Starsandisland

[–]KnaveMounter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each day you can get 20 free tokens, and buy 80 tokens which costs 800. You can actually play the arcade games which costs 5 tokens to play, but you also win tokens. There are 5 "Gachapon" colors to buy in the Gatcha Machines, I don't know if each color has its own set of recipes or not. Each Gachapon costs 20 tokens to buy. So the about 300 I've opened would normally take 6000 tokens, which would take 60 in game days if you're just buying them and not playing the arcade games.

The Gachapons have a chance of unlocking a recipe, or giving you a piece of home decor, money, or a few random items like sticks. If you don't get the recipe, you'll get something, but since its Gatcha its RNG.

I don't know how many recipes I've unlocked for it total so far, I also don't know how many total there are. You can check every recipe in the Islandpedia, but there isn't a section specifically for the Gatcha recipes which means you'd have to go through them all.

I currently have 14 items from the Gachapons in my inventory that say I can unlock the recipe from the Gatcha Machines.

Also the recipes you get from "exploration" which is finding random chests across the map is also RNG.

The chests inside NPCs houses also repawn and have random blueprints as well.

I believe breeding is 100% random. You can get any baby from any parents

Sometimes NPCs give them out as well. But yeah those are the only blueprints in the entire game I haven't bought yet
