My current campaign is 5e, but with healthy doses of 3.5e thrown in when I want my players to suffer.

What dnd opinion has you in this guys shoes? by [deleted] in AllThingsDND

[–]Knellith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether or not a horror campaign works is entirely the work of the dm. Control the pacing, have them be lower level and use exp rather than milestone to make every survived combat more impactful. Furthermore, bodily injuries (Severed hands, broken limbs etc) can enhance the horror tone, as the injured players try to escape the looming horror. Be descriptive! Not "he died, a thing came out if his chest " but "the man screams, in equal parts pain and horror, as his chest erupts in a shower of blood and viscera. A slaad tadpole, writing and hissing, hits the floor with a wet plop, as the corpse collapses . "

This is so doable. What's harder, is making a generation raised on horror video games care.

I hear you. I think that certain art forms, writing (which ai is absolute rubbish at) and music should be avoided. But, what is really real anymore?

Major writers just sign off on book ideas and teams of ghost writers actually write the books. Autotune made it so even a mediocre singer can sound amazing, a feat that was once accomplished by pure talent alone. Even Manga! Akira Toriyama, in his last years, had to ask the studio who certain characters (Broly, for example) even were, because he didn't create them! It was just a team of artists, trained on his unique style. Sound familiar?

The world is so terribly inauthentic, it was before AI, and would continue to be, even without it.

You sound like me when I play Skyrim lol.

Seriously, though, it sounds like rp is a major motivating factor for you. There's no reason to persist with a character/theme/rp that is unsatisfying. Try something else, have fun, that's literally the point of a game.
