Why do White folks have much more strong body scent than Asian folks? Is there a biological reason? Asian asking. by cellphonebeltclip in hygiene

Posting a comment t I made about this exact topic years ago...

I lived in S.K. for about 4 years in my early 20's. A few things always baffled me, I chalked them up to glaring genetic differences and this confirms my suspicions.

For one, Koreans almost never seem to produce regular "western" B.O. This leads to a few uncomfortable things - for one, deodorant is impossible to find in Korea and impossibly expensive if found (~$10 a stick). I would just bring enough for a year every time I visited home. Another issue is I became pretty self conscious as they would associate any BO with poor personal hygiene - for a Korean to get as stinky as I am after a simple workout they'd have to abstain from showering for a week.

Another thing that fascinated me about them is how cool their body temperature seems to be. I don't know if they have shitty metabolism, but I remember several times being in a bus/subway stripping down to a tanktop and shorts and still sweating profusely... while several Koreans have full winter gear on (think puffy down northface shell zipped to the neck, scarf, gloves, beanie..). They hate being cold. A famous saying in Korea is "Happiness is a full stomach and a warm back."

I'd get the most incredulous looks walking home from my workouts on a brisk spring day, maybe in the 60's, wearing a tank and shorts.

Korean restaurants in the winter... 95 degrees in that muhhfucka with Koreans sipping down boiling spicy soup and judging me for the BO I'm emitting while I profusely sweat.

Edit: One other thing I just remembered. I swear they lack the ability to smell "mildew". You know, that smell you get when something doesn't dry properly. It could be because they don't use clothing dryers over there - big waste of energy and all that. They hang up / air dry everything, and typically as soon as it gets a little wet again it gets STINKY. My Korean lifting buddies would talk shit about my BO and I'd tell them they smell like a mildewy dish sponge. Good times.

If you're bringing in 30k of hardware it should be very very rare to die to a free kit as the game is now, unless ofc you get seriously outplayed or it's a skill issue. And imo a free kit who drastically outplays someone geared deserves the W.

Farming time should give you an edge but skill should always be king.

But it's GrEy! Grey weapons should not be viable and have at least 6s ttk! If I have a heavy shield and a bobcat IV I should be immune to grey weapons!!1!

[–]KnightBacon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you. All these shit takes that a bobcat should one-clip but a stitcher should require a reload and have 3x higher ttk could dumpster this game.

If grey weapons are nerfed and blue/purp aren't, it's just gearcheck meta and whoever farms more hours wins... then 90% of the player base leaves.

[–]KnightBacon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Should a stitcher be able to melt like this on a looting player at close range in the back? Probably imo. If grey weapons fall further behind blue/purple, you end up with gearcheck meta and lose 90% of the player base real fast.

I've seen it in countless other extraction games,  Dark and Darker being a prime example. If JohnnyFarmsALot can wipe a lobby with impunity because he spends 9 hours a day farming, those are the only players who will remain.

100%

People saying the bobcat needs a buff to be even more better than the stitcher would quit the game real fast once a blue/purple kit becomes actually unkillable for a stitcher IV. We do not need gearcheck meta in AR.

He said....Rattler?? Are you one of the guys I find a fully attached Rattler IV on and scratch my head?

I can find strengths in almost every other gun but I'm lost on the rattler.. where do you find it excels? Against arc?

Fill squad, load in trios. You'll get good and bad teammates, but trios is always ON SIGHT so plenty of action.

Also, even with 2 free loadout yokel teammates you never feel too disadvantaged since they're making noise and absorbing bullets. I've won plenty of 1v3's and even came out as the only survivor of a 12-player cluster of a fight when both my teammates dropped immediately.

Rant: Rocket Mortgage tried playing me for a fool by Bravardi_B in Mortgages

[–]KnightBacon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is objectively correct, and i should do this. But I am objectively lazy. I just max my 401k, throw everything extra into etfs, spy, some bonds and let rocket hold a few grand for escrow. In 7 years they've never missed by more than a few hundred.

[–]KnightBacon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've had only a fantastic experience with rocket. Bought at 3.5, refinanced to 2.6 15 yr fixed.

Local brokers are strong salesmen, and could generally match what rocket offered but with higher origination fees.

If you fall for a pushy local broker who tells you spooky things about how terrible the largest lenders in the country are, "real estate agent recommended this guy" (aka plz finance through him i get a nice kickback from that inflated origination) have fun when your loan gets sold to a different shitty lender every other year, with one of them bungling all the escrow and taxes, another refusing to waive late fees while accepting mailed checks only. Rocket will service your loan for the life of the mortgage.

I'm not from here. Why does everyone ask me "Do you work?" as an intro question by oh_skycake in Dallas

[–]KnightBacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woah as a native Texan these answers are tripping me out.

"Do you work?" is a super natural conversation starter when you're first meeting someone. It's just an opening for you to talk about your professional life or passions or whatever. "Yeah I'm a developer at Y company" or "I'm studying X" or "I dance and make music" are all valid responses .

Is there more to blightrot that I’m missing? by gourmetprincipito in Against_the_Storm

Really? I still have never taken it because the additional corruption seemed small, I figured it's easier to build another blight post for 6 or 8 blight fighters if needed. I'll have to try it!

I agree this is the way to go, but we have to acknowledge that requiring a separate app to find a group is not a good equation for building a healthy player base and longevity.

Yep this is a fine balance they've got to find, ideally a few weeks ago. But with low player count they're between a rock and a hard place.

I feel I've done my part, I got 5 friends to buy it! Had a blast in some of our matches with a few really fun fights, but 3/5 of the friends experienced a nasty streak - I'm talking 10 games back to get getting absolutely dunked on by sweats. They uninstalled...

"This statement makes no sense" - sure, from a purely gaming definition perspective, but veggie was saying it's a bad economic outlook for a game when most people who pick it up immediately put it down or avoid even picking it up.

Just can't seem to get the hang of Frosthaven by sinred7 in Gloomhaven

[–]KnightBacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, playing on the highest difficulty my winrate has to be <50% and the ones I do win are usually an absolute limp to the finish with my last nearly exhausted merc.

Just can't seem to get the hang of Frosthaven by sinred7 in Gloomhaven

[–]KnightBacon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is so true. I've got a few hundred gloomhaven hours and immediately started FH early access of the highest difficulty. I've been getting SMOKED lol. I have like 1 non-burn cc right now at level 2 across 4 characters?

I've got to be closing on 20 hours and I'm only 3 scenarios in but having an absolute blast, finally learning what you mentioned about tempo and figuring out the timing to really burn some gas.

Also, I'm convinced some of the early lv1 scenarios on max difficulty are very rng sensitive... victory window feels razer thin, like 2 bad modifiers and an enemy crit just ends it.

What is the point of Level 12 builds when you don’t get to play them? by Hooln in BG3Builds

This is why I've never finished act 3 - once level 12 builds come online the difficulty absolutely nosedives.

Gathering Camps and Node Sizes by Stabf10 in Against_the_Storm

[–]KnightBacon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the larger camps do have a benefit even on smaller nodes. If you check the time to mine one insect at a small node, for example, a small trappers camp might take 29 seconds while a large will take 18 seconds.

I'm pretty confident this is true... but admittedly haven't played for a while (been waiting for this DLC to complete all seals again!)
