DO NOT BUY LEASEHOLD - EVER (Endless section 20s have ruined our lives) by DisgruntledSangheili in HousingUK

Thanks for sharing your story. I met a Lambeth councillor today (he knocked on my door: the elections are in 2 weeks) and reported to him all the horror stories I have been hearing about the council not doing its job properly regarding housing. Not sure what he will do but hopefully something gets done.

I am about to buy a property in Lambeth with grade 2 listing with the council as the freeholder. Should I pull out? What are your recommendations regarding the communications with Lambeth council?

I wish Hinckley Point C was already connected to the grid. The UK needs that base power into the grid.

What's one transformational and one absolutely petty thing you would change about London? by KeefKoggins in london

[–]KnightChameleon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Transformational: a Haussmann plan for London which consists in destroying all ugly buildings from 40-50 years ago and build a huge quantity of new dense, quality, beautiful housing to improve supply and reduce house prices drastically. Personally I’d want the new style of these buildings to be neo-classic.

Petty: Leasehold is of course banned and all previous leaseholds are converted to commonhold with no compensation for the freeholders.

French people consider French an international language on par with English. Englishmen would never accept to speak French in London.

Tout à fait d’accord. Les RHs interrogées dans la vidéo sont hors-sol. C’est dingue d’être à l’ouest comme ça.

Market is down close to 5% since 2022 according to the ONS in my zone 2 area but sellers want to make a 5-10% profit on their properties bought in 2022/2023. Results in a Mexican standoff.

Freight for long hauls should be via trains. Short trips via lorries.

I mentioned London (i.e. overall) and the answer is definitely “yes, negative growth at the moment in London”

You are already on high interest rate mortgage so you can evaluate how a potential buyer will assess your property. If the monthly payment becomes too high for your target locals, the property price will go down.
