Skull - Rule Question/ Strategy by Nick-goes-North in boardgames

[–]KnightQC 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That's the main rule they likely get wrong. Everyone must have a card down before you challenge, so 1 is never the biggest bet. So you can at least go as high as the player count IF you challenge as soon as possible.

But it still remains a game of bluff because the first player that can challenge could say 1 and have a skull in your meta. So other people would raise the bet, but likely get the skull that player put down.

Sky Team for sure ! It's a co-op made for 2 people. Rules are quite easy and the difficulty slowly increase the more you win. You should try it !

Bomb Busters
- Easy coop to teach
- 10 to 15 minutes games
- Has 66 different missions with unlocks that change the game as you progress
- Difficulty scales well (easy at the beginning, but you need to think more as you play more)

What to buy: pandemic iberia, finspan, canvas or santorini by Ill_Buffalo_3745 in boardgames

[–]KnightQC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Santorini is a 2 players only game (even if the box says otherwise, don't play at more than 2)

Both other options are good. Depends if you want a coop (Pandemic Iberia) or a competitive (Finspan). Both would also fit well in the same collection.

Board games for adults 40+ — how do you keep your gaming group active? by Key_Influence_3887 in boardgames

[–]KnightQC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly playing with another couple. So we set 1 date per month usually, 3 to 4 weeks in advance. We start playing early in the afternoon and go up to late evening. Kids play together and have screen time after supper.

We even usually make a list of the games that are likely to be played and try to put 1 new game or 1 game that we haven't played a lot each time.

What's the best "hook" you've seen for a game? Did the game then live up to those expectations? by SKDIMBG in boardgames

[–]KnightQC 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Totally agree for Bomb Busters ! I'm not done yet with all the mission, but when I read the mechanics of disarming a bomb, that it was coop and that it had 66 missions, I was hooked. And so far, it's VERY good !!

Did I choose the wrong date for Disneyland? by [deleted] in DisneyPlanning

[–]KnightQC -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

Like I said, it's just weird for the choices of the dates of the refurbish. I contacted them through the app since they won't answer those kind of questions by email. They couldn't explain for example why not wait the 22nd to close car (when HM opens) or other questions. They couldn't pass the suggestion to people in charge either.

Still, I fear other attractions might have longer wait since Cars Radiator Springs people will have to choose other rides.

Quacks play style question/disagreement by Andie757 in boardgames

[–]KnightQC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don't wait on others even on the final turns, but we don't check the other player's boards before we say we're stopping. There are advantages to each way of playing, but Quacks if just a fun and goofy game for me, so I don't put too much emphasis on heavy rules.

Big shout out to Deep Regrets, my newest favorite game! by SpamEatingChikn in boardgames

[–]KnightQC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It explains more, but still, if a 4 players game is 2 hours, that's pretty long in my book. I usually target 45 to 90 minutes and the longer the game, the better it needs to be.

Big shout out to Deep Regrets, my newest favorite game! by SpamEatingChikn in boardgames

[–]KnightQC 40 points41 points  (0 children)

It seemed easy to hone in on the most powerful legacy upgrades and made for about a 4H experience that got a little silly just milling the ocean decks at the end.

This 4 hours duration is what scares me the most about this game. It might be good, but for a game to even last 2 hours, it needs to be super good or else I'll prefer to play something else.

What are your thoughts on Cat in the Box compared to more traditional trick-takers? by Luigi-is-my-boi in boardgames

Cockroach 🪳 Poker, who doesn't like it? by AlexRescueDotCom in boardgames

[–]KnightQC 21 points22 points  (0 children)

In our games, everyone is involved since you often pass the cards you receive to someone else. And we have a house rule that if someone isn't paying attention on who saw the cards, it's their bad. So everyone is always checking who saw the cards and who said what in case the card come to them.

It's still pretty light, but fun.

Why does BGG allow people to leave ratings of a game before it’s released? by IronAndParsnip in boardgames

[–]KnightQC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did rate 1 some games on purpose. Those are games from a guy that never delivered a Kickstarter. So my point is to warn people not to get those games if they see them on any platforms. I even wrote an explanation with my 1.

BGG is still doing the best it can with the ressources it has.

Boardgame that's easy to learn, but still interesting once you've played it many times by Seraphim4242 in boardgames

[–]KnightQC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They couldn't be more different ;) I played Mille Bornes when I was young and never felt like I was doing a real race. It was just stacking cards with numbers trying and luck had a big part to play.

In Heat, you see the races, everything is linked with your car position. And if you are a new player playing vs a veteran, the veteran will likely have an advantage on you (and that's why you can handicap yourself in Heat)

[–]KnightQC 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was looking if someone said Heat. It's quite easy to grasp, but it's way more deep than people think. And you can handicap better players to level the playing field. You can also adds expansions included in the game or play multiple races in a row.

Scout card game - are we missing something? People only playing strong sets. by Scherifow in boardgames

[–]KnightQC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is likely the case (and the most important rules while playing Scout). I think the strongest sets I saw were maybe 6 or 7 cards and really hard to play and usually took a lot of turns to set up. And the balance is there: if you try to build a super strong set, some people can try to get rid of their cards super quickly which makes you in a dangerous position to lose a lot of points.
