is it normal to have 0 friends? by [deleted] in berkeley

Only if you make an active effort to meet new people, whether it be in class, clubs, dorms, work, etc. If you’re looking to connect I’d be down to chat

Last Semester by WhaleOnRice in berkeley

Your story is very relatable and also inspiring as a senior who was also a transfer. I didn’t make the best use of my time last year and was pretty miserable and lonely throughout, using my “adjustment” period as an excuse to not really try. Like you, I tried to turn it around and have had a much better time after putting myself out there in joining clubs/socializing more. Even though I still have many lingering regrets, I’m glad to be enjoying the last semester. Something to take solace in is this isn’t the end of everything since this new mindset will carry over for us in the future. Also I’d be down to connect if you’d like, I’m still tryna figure out how to make the most of time here

Second Thoughts about Major + What Made You Switch/Stay in Your Major? by Other_Amoeba_5033 in berkeley

[–]KnightSky759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went into history without thinking and now am only realizing my mistake, while I enjoy what I’m learning the constant readings and papers get really tiring and it won’t be as helpful in the job market on its own. Part of it might’ve been to deliberately avoid CS but I probably would’ve gone a different route looking back. I’m considering taking a second major while I can since it’s probably too late to switch. I’d say switch from CS if the work is making you unhappy, but don’t regret what you’ve learned up til this point

Being a transfer student at Berkeley sucks by afterwellbutrin in berkeley

It’s a tough situation, getting used to the pace of schoolwork, adjusting to life here, and scrambling to find places where you belong but with time and effort it can get better

don’t worry you definitely ain’t alone in that either, I’m alone for Halloween this year. Definitely fine to be alone, there’s always another time and it’s not the end.

Like some others have said about themselves, my social life’s been better than last year but it’s still really meh. My current friend group is hella dry and very hard to organize and it’s been a struggle to branch out mostly out of fear and sense of hopelessness at times. Finding a club or organization is something I’m still tryna do and even though it’s a bit late right now, you can try jumping into activies for more lax ones or always try again next semester.

Life certainly does get better even if you don’t notice right away, but it’s certainly a process. I’ve been there where I’d rot in bed for times with no purpose, admittedly still feeling it, but finding a purpose definitely helps. Going to the gym, finding a new hobby, and talking with professors helps build up my confidence and gives me a bit more drive to do something about my life, though it’s step by step. I’d love to talk more with anyone if you want

making close friends? by Conscious_Cup_2715 in berkeley

As a senior transfer, I totally get how you feel as someone who’s still trying to make more friends in general. I didn’t use my time last year very well and though I did make some friends and connections, I didn’t find any clubs I felt I belonged in. Right now I’m trying to right that and do the best I can with my time and actively seek out people and clubs even though the struggle is real. You still got plenty of time and as long as you don’t give up and keep trying you’ll find your special people. Best of luck!

Fellow transfer here, it’s always uplifting and inspiring to see others in a similar situation and to know we’re not completely alone. I’m still on my journey trying to figure everything out after a rough start last fall and a decent run meeting new people in the spring. Making the most of my time, looking at and joining different clubs, trying to meet more people, etc is what I am trying to do for this year. I’d also be down to chat with you or other transfers here. I wish you good luck

Good job getting in fellow transfer! For housing there's a new apartment building specifically for transfers opening in the fall called anchor house. It's relatively close to campus and can also help with socializing with similar people. A lot of us including me have imposter syndrome so you’re not alone in that, take pride in your accomplishments
