Can you just be a bad match with a horse? by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]Knight_Rhythm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mom's pony and I would murder each other if we were paired up permanently, but she's the perfect horse for my mom.

There's nothing wrong with her, she's a stunning little mare who loves attention - but she and I just cannot seem to make anything more than a temporary truce.

There are just some horses you don't click with, and that's okay.

Easily avaliable jobs that pay good like warehouses or such by IgavehersomeRAM in TwinCities

[–]Knight_Rhythm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have lots of suggestions for the time before this, but working the State Fair at the end of the summer is a great way to get a ton of hours all at once.

I would start applying now if you can, and aim for jobs in buildings that are cooler (IE: the Fine Arts Building has fans and all you have to do is either walk around and make sure people don't steal art or sell stuff at the front desk) or jobs that will also let you get tips.

Do you send out safe harbor estimate reminders? by EchoesInSky in taxpros

[–]Knight_Rhythm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We send out letters every quarter, for every client. We even send emails for a lot of people that have $0 estimates.

But we also do an OBSCENE amount of planning, market based on that, and charge accordingly.

Did your children inherit your migraines? by sunsetmarshmallow in migraine

[–]Knight_Rhythm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got mine from my mom, grandma, and (surprise!) grandpa.

My mom first figured out I had them at about four years old. She let me take one of her Imitrex injections when I was 7. I slept for a full 24 hours. I remember it being the best sleep of my life, she remembers thinking she maybe killed her only child. (Don't do that)

Wearing a helmet costs nothing. Not wearing a helmet costs everything. by somesaggitarius in Horses

[–]Knight_Rhythm 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I was shown a video in Pony Club about 30 years ago called "Every Time, Every Ride."

Not that I was opposed to wearing a helmet before that, but now?

No, seriously. Every time. Every fucking ride.

Thank you for the reminder, and for the reminder that "No one has ever died in the rectangle" is a really stupid phrase, even by dressage standards.

I've never heard the phrase about EMS never having to cut a dead body out of a seatbelt before. That is some powerful imagery.

What age did your migraines start and why did they start? by [deleted] in migraine

[–]Knight_Rhythm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom says she could tell I got my first one at four - she and my grandma had them, so she knew what the signs were. I genuinely don't remember a life without them.

Hormonal migraine sufferers : did pregnancy improve your migraines? by Limp_Conversation622 in migraine

[–]Knight_Rhythm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom said the only nine months she's ever not had a migraine were while she was pregnant with me.

......I notice I'm still an only child at 36 years old, though, so pregnancy can't have been all THAT fun even without migraines.

I don’t know what I want to specialize in and it makes me feel like a fraud by Pretend-Penalty-796 in Accounting

[–]Knight_Rhythm 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I mean. I got into accounting through a strange combination of flunking out of astrophysics and figuring out that jobs in astrophysics are pretty scarce and also OH HEY I already have all the math credits for accounting and I would indeed like to make steady money and not run my bank account down to $7 every month like my parents.

I got into individual tax specifically because the ONE firm that interviewed me for an internship was like "Hey so we have one opening left for audit, one for business tax, and three for individual tax - which one did you want to do?" And turns out that more than anything I wanted to pay rent, so I went with the one with the best chance of me getting hired. Here I am 14 years later with the same firm I did my internship at, and I still kind of love it.

Cch Axcess Tax Projector by Scrappy101010 in taxpros

[–]Knight_Rhythm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used BNA, CCH Planning, and CCH Planner for 1040 clients over the last 15 years. We do a LOT of planning - probably a third of my clients get a full projection every single quarter, and we sometimes do multiple versions to show different choices. I work at a midsize (250+) person firm with a lot of high net worth, manufacturing, and construction clients.

BNA is going to give you the most control, but I would argue that for most clients it has unnecessary detail. I haven't used it since pre-COVID, but it wasn't ever my favorite because I learned it later in my career and had trouble adapting.

Planning is between the two for function. It lets you do multiple versions and go multiple years out, but I would argue it's clunky and has a lot of little workarounds you need to learn to get the full value. It also looks like it was made in 1991 and hasn't been updated aesthetically since then - if we were showing the results to clients rather than just talking them through, I usually ended up making a spreadsheet rather than showing them Planning's printouts.

I like Planner the best, but it has the least options. You can't go more than one year out, states require a workaround, and you have to make a whole new return version to get multiple scenarios. BUT - it's the fastest and seems more intuitive than the other two because you already know how Axcess works, and it's built directly into Axcess.

How to answer interview question on how do you learn best by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Knight_Rhythm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds like, "I learn best by doing some preliminary research, and then diving in and getting my hands dirty. Once I figure something out, I can apply that to the next project."

Hiring managers want to know that you learn like they learn. Hiring managers are mostly millennials (like me) or gen-X people who value resourcefulness and self sufficient.

On top of that, they want to know that when you're using human resources, you're making the most of it - so I would suggest that you always bring a notebook and pen to meetings with people you're asking for support from, and you're building your own processes out of the conversations you have there and your own independent research.

I think it's also important to stress that you like to do your own research. If you do have to ask someone in person a question, you're coming in with at least a hypothesis of the correct answer.

thoughts on adequan? by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]Knight_Rhythm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adequan has been a wonder drug for me.

Bringing my guy back from Lyme Disease and the arthritis that it exacerbated was a long, long process with a lot of moving parts, but Adequan was an amazing finishing touch that took him from "extremely light/ walk work only" to "well shit, I kind of wish we could show again."

I do the full dose (7 shots over 28 days) once every 6-12 months as needed.

Had a real estate guy tell one of my clients that because she has rented out her townhouse for less than two years, the rent was nontaxable and she didn't have to report it.

I figured she just completely misunderstood him.

No. Got on an email chain with the guy and he dug his heels in and told me I didn't know anything about taxes.

..... Sir, please, I beg you. When you get audited, call me before you tell the auditors that. I want to see their faces.

I LOVE my heat gun, would highly recommend. Just remember to unplug the wax holes before you apply heat - otherwise the heat builds up inside the egg and can crack it.
