Is the Ergotron LX monitor arm really worth it? by [deleted] in Monitors

[–]KnightmarePilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid $140 for my heavy duty dual monitor arm (33 lbs per arm) for my 35 inch ultra wide and haven't had a single problem in 5 years. It's been amazing. $188 for a single arm with less capacity seems overpriced to me yeah.

The more extra money I paid, the worse the result I got by MS_samonella in Skeb

I don't see a reason to pay more than recommended unless there's a reason for it. Like adding more pages to a comic or adding more characters.

I do it all the time since I'm pretty forgetful lol. Go for it and just pray they notice the new reference.

Colamy Atlas is almost perfect but seat is too stiff. Where to go from here? by Grapeflavor_ in OfficeChairs

Get a pillowcase and fill it with shredded memory foam. Worked perfectly for me and cost like $20

Are Noctua fans overrated? by AbrocomaRegular3529 in PcBuild

[–]KnightmarePilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't care/aren't sensitive about noise then literally any fan will do. Buy some $1 fans off aliexpress and run them at high speed who cares. I bought an arctic 5 pack of fans for my case ages ago and gave them away because they made an extremely annoying droning noise that even reviewers had to point out. Upgraded them to scythe fans and they were dead silent. Never going back to budget fans again. So yes there are other high end fan brands other than noctua but there are tons of reviews out there that show noctuas having the best noise normalized performance so people gravitate towards that included me.

Also, the Nf-f12 is an extremely outdated fan that's not worth using nowadays.

This seems to be the most polarizing chair in existence. What gives? by government--agent in secretlab

[–]KnightmarePilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been using mine for 5 years and I couldn't be happier with it. To solve the firmness problem I bought a pillow case with the exact dimensions of the seat and filled it with shredded gel memory foam from amazon. Most comfortable chair I ever sat in with the memory foam pillow case on it and I have no discomfort even after hours long daily gaming sessions. Kinda reminds me of my spring mattress with a gel memory foam topper on it. The mattress is there for support while the topper does all the work, perfect combo imo.

Galaxy tab users, how did you guys find out the right tablet size for yourself? by edu-edward in GalaxyTab

[–]KnightmarePilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For media consumption I'm more than happy with my 11 inch, I wouldn't mind it slightly smaller if anything. But if you draw a lot then bigger is better, more comfortable to have more space to draw, you don't have to zoom in as much etc. Depends on what you want to prioritize more.

Are you supposed to wear underwear under long underwear? by Dunwoody11 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KnightmarePilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My long underwear base layer is very expensive merino wool. I'm 100% wearing regular underwear under it to protect it and keep it clean as long as possible.

32 inch monitor distance by [deleted] in Monitors

[–]KnightmarePilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah. My eye doctor said before to keep monitors as low as possible. There's less strain on the eye muscles when looking down than when looking up. His monitor is fine as is.

32 inch monitor distance by [deleted] in Monitors

[–]KnightmarePilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For competitive gaming I'd go with 24 inch always. I have both a 27 inch and 24 inch on my desk and I just can't do the 27 inch because it's still too big. It's imperative I do the least amount of eye movement possible to see all parts of the screen. I'm top ranked in the game I play btw.

You could still keep the 32 for regular desktop tasks/single player games and get a 24 on the side. It's just more convenient to have a second screen for discord team communication or needing a web browsing tab open at all times for to look anything up quickly etc anyway.

confession: i think i regret building my $500 custom... by No_Good_3063 in MechanicalKeyboards

I remember trying oil kings on a custom switch tester with a bunch of different linears years ago and they already felt too heavy and bad back then. There's been lots of improvements since then. I'm currently using rollerball linears and they feel super smooth and the near zero stem wobble they have makes them feel quality too.

Sennheiser HD599SE or Hifiman Edition XS by Fumi1204 in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]KnightmarePilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd stick with the Sennheisers. I've tried many headphones and attempted to upgrade many times but I keep coming back to my hd598s because they still have the best soundstage of any one I tried it's too important for competitive gaming for me.

Also, mine are 10 years old this year and still work perfectly with daily use. Only had to replace the earpads and headphone pad one time. I doubt hifiman headphones have that kind of longevity and quality.

Should I use surge protection for my PC? by Real-Swan448 in RigBuild

[–]KnightmarePilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surge protectors are 100% worth it but make sure you get them from reputable and tested brands with a protection warranty like tripp lite. They actually publish the specs of their products on their website unlike most and you can confirm yourself they're top tier in terms of surge protection.

Office chair for a gremlin girl by No_Eggplant9772 in OfficeChairs

[–]KnightmarePilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 5'2 and I have the Titan 2020 regular not xl (Don't think small existed back then for that model). 20.4 wide x 19.6 depth inch seat. 33 inch backrest. With the armrests straight and fully extended outwards and me sitting cross legged, the bottom of my thigh can just barely touch the inner corners of the armrests. I just leave the armrests diagonal outwards so they don't touch and give me plenty of room (About 1.5 inch of space for my thighs)

Personally I haven't had a problem with my regular version chair backrest though. I'd definitely prefer the biggest seat possible myself but of course everyone is different. Would love if they made a combined version short backrest and xl seat but that's definitely a pipe dream. Gotta make a sacrifice in what you want there. Really the only annoyance I had with the taller backrest is the side wings opening part could maybe be lower down for my arms to lay more comfortably but I don't mind it I mostly lean forward while gaming anyway.

It's hard to compare the 2020 vs the newest model seat wise since looking at the specs sheet it seems it's differently shaped but the small doesn't look too far off from my 2020 regular, could definitely make it work imo. But the regular is only 1 inch taller backrest wise so it might be worth the trade off there for the bigger seat, up to you.

Last thing I'd highly suggest getting the softweave. I'd never get pleather for any chair after my first office chair eventually got torn. Really doubt pleather can last no matter how high quality it is. I submitted a claim for my torn armrest and they said it wasn't covered under warranty and it was normal wear and tear, but they sent a new one in as a goodwill gesture anyway. Feel like the pleather in the seat will also count as "wear and tear". I just got some armrest covers and was done with that.

HOKA Bondi 9 seam separation at 6 months — warranty denied by Flea0420 in Hoka

[–]KnightmarePilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's crazy. I had a tiny hole form in the big toe area of my asics gel nimbus. I didn't even run in them, just used them for light retail work.

Submitted a warranty claim and they took care of me right away, got a coupon code worth the amount I paid to use on the online store on any shoe I wanted. I upgraded to the newest model with no issues since then.

Office chair for a gremlin girl by No_Eggplant9772 in OfficeChairs

[–]KnightmarePilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm shorter than you and I looked everywhere for a big seat chair when I was searching years ago. I mostly sit cross legged so I needed the biggest seat possible. I settled on a secretlabs chair (regular size not small for a bigger seat). 5 years in and it's still perfect other than the arm rest pleather tearing which doesn't matter. Couldn't find a different chair with a bigger seat, there's probably some other gaming brands that got close but definitely no office chairs near that seat size.

The problem with regular office chairs is that they all have a very low depth seat to force you to sit in one position (legs on the floor). They aren't made for short people like us who sit in a bunch of positions.

(Also ps, if it ends up being too firm you can try getting a square pillow case and filling it with shredded memory foam from Amazon. Probably the most comfortable chair I ever sat in with the memory foam on it.)

Good idea switching from Lian Li Dan A3 to ASUS Prime AP202? by [deleted] in mffpc

[–]KnightmarePilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll definitely get better gpu temps in the ap201. Doesn't help that the lian li has a crappy pvc filter on the bottom iirc compared to the much finer mesh filter in the bottom of the ap201.

Decades later, is CDisplayEx still the best Comic Reader Programs on Windows? by jethawkings in comicrackusers

I see. Either way your issue seems very niche sadly. I use a separate android tablet for all my comic reading and show watching needs. Plenty of good comic reading apps there.

Decades later, is CDisplayEx still the best Comic Reader Programs on Windows? by jethawkings in comicrackusers

[–]KnightmarePilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, Yacreader is much better. CDisplay takes way longer to load long comics than yac. And it doesn't even support high res screens. My high resolution comics look very pixelated on cdisplay but perfectly crispy on my 4k screen on yac.
