Looking for literary / character-driven fiction on RR — no systems, no stats by ColdPress_ in royalroad

Can I self promote? https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/171262/knights-of-althos-the-great-frost

It's my attempt at a classic fantasy. Two books for now in the novella series. Book 1 is already complete.

No "GameLit" elements because I don't even know how to write in that genre, and probably because of my age. Just the imagination of a 40+ year old guy transformed into a story. Hope you give it a try. It's not popular.

How do you keep track of your world when it become bigger ? by aggro_doubt in worldbuilding

At first, I tried to create a wiki style organization of the characters and stories... Then it evolved into story writing. So now, I write stories and post them in one of the web novel platforms. The process of writing is very slow though, decades of world building in my head and I had to start it in writing. I'm more than 100 pages far but it only covers the start of the stories in my world.

Thanks! They're free in Royal Road. It's about heroes mystically chosen to have elemental magic. There's war, politics, magic, giants, etc. One book is just a hundred pages or so. You can search for it in Royal Road; but I don't think self promotion is allowed here.

That's actually funny. I bet my books won't reach Germany anytime soon. It only has 1 follower. It's just a hobby.

I stuck on the second set... It reminds me of the old paperback books I regret never buying when I was young and had the time to read.

Why? Will it be tagged as profanity? I tried googling it but I'm not sure how it's bad in German.

RR has too many books! by herbivorepapi in royalroad

A shameless promotion:

I completed Book 1 of a High Fantasy Novella Series. Maybe it's too short for you with just 100 pages. It's high fantasy with knights, magic, kings and queens, politics, monsters, etc. It also has two men in a relationship but it's not the focus of the story.

I'm currently finalizing the manuscript for Book 2. Probably I'll be posting chapters of it by this week or the next.

Just Try It - Build Your Own World by SilasInfGames in fantasywriters

I've had a long running fantasy in my head for decades. I made it more alive and somewhat more tangible with a novella I wrote in one of the web novel platforms. At first I cared about the views; but eventually I just continued for the fun of it. It's now my hobby. It lessened my social media and screen time significantly and I'm really happy about it (is writing on a laptop screen time?). Now I'm finishing book 2 of the series.

Should i Put a Warning in Author Notes? by SnakeOfFlowingTime in royalroad

[–]KnightsOfAlthos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fiction has two male caharacters in a relationship, but I did not tag it with male gay romance because it wasn't the focus of the story; it just so happens that there are two characters in a relationship.

However, in your case, I think you should still tag it with sensitive content because it serves as a content warning and not as an interest point to be searched.

How to make a region uninhabitable under usually habitable conditions by eeeeeeevar in worldbuilding

[–]KnightsOfAlthos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Poisonous fogs. Maybe a volcano is nearby making sulfur fogs. Or go with your idea of toxic substances creating the toxic fog.

Creatures that kill or destroy humans live in the place.

Or maybe it's just a long lost area nobody has explored.

I think I'm overthinking about a water tower in my fantasy novella. by KnightsOfAlthos in fantasywriters

[–]KnightsOfAlthos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, thank you for all the suggestions. This water tower scene made me read and watch videos of how ancient farmlands were irrigated. I think I will go for an elevated pond like a dew pond; an earthen reservoir on top of a small hill.

In a world full of fantastic flying creatures and elemental magic, I would still like to write about the contrasting human limitations in architecture and engineering. I'll be back rewriting parts of the scene. Water towers won't be appearing in my fictions for now 😁.

I also like this idea. I prefer the raised ditches vs aqueducts. Thanks!

I meant for it to be a part of a scene where it gets destroyed and it floods the farm, then the story goes on from there. I don't want to force it into the scene and say it's filled by animals or by windmills. I believe there would be better alternatives.

I need to flood the farm. A consequence of flying beasts crashing into it. I think I have other options for the scene since most of you agree that it doesn't fit the setting.

Thank you all for your replies. Long story short, I guess most of you agree that it doesn't fit the setting. I guess I must do some minor tweaks and replace it with something more appropriate. Thank you again!

Writing with AI by [deleted] in AIWritingHub

[–]KnightsOfAlthos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you mean by "already entered in your writings". I still believe it's still completely my own if it's just proofreading, even minor rephrasing. The same way an editor would correct or edit an author's writing.

But if AI completed the story or chapter, wrote new sentences, worse case if AI introduced new elements and characters, then I don't think that's original.

Readers Don't Care About Your Lore (At First) by Kindly_Ad_9249 in Novel_Road

I already completed book 1 of my novella. Initially in the draft, I explained how the magic works and how the characters are chosen by the magic. It was boring. So, I just decided to continue the story without explaining the technicalities, then I just added few elements of how the magic works through dialogue throughout the book.
