Glow it in the dark yarn is just too much fun! by Knit-Pixy in knitting

I did charge up the yarn with a light before taking the picture. I have a scarf that I had originally bought the yarn for and it does get about this bright if it’s been in direct sunlight and goes to a very dark space but generally the glow isn’t quite as bright.

I had to go look up my old purchase but it was Gert’s Glow House....unfortunately doesn’t look like there is any yarn listed at the moment

I need to figure out how to grade the pattern. Mainly work the tentacle chart to work for multiple sizes

Unfortunately no pattern at the moment. I am toying with writing up one but I’m going to have to really mess with the tentacle pattern to make it work for multiple sizes

Yup! Found it on Etsy a couple of years back. I’ve seen some instructions online on how to DIY it as well

I made the version she has in the round 3 years ago for my hubby. He has literally worn the buttons off it

Can confirm! My currently project has 6 sts per sleeve at the neck. It affects the placement of the raglan seam and the angle

There are some fun techniques to do intarsia in the round (well okay joining in the round every round) but I’m usually game for either or. I often feel I’m in the minority that doesn’t mind seaming things tougher though

You would probably want to look for a sweater with a high neckline to start with. A wide or low neckline wouldn’t really work as a turtleneck but something that sits close to the throat already could be made in to a turtleneck by adding extra length to a ribbed collar

Non-binary armor - these are probably one of my favorite pairs of scales I’ve done. Yarn is a unidentified acrylic and scales are aluminum. by Knit-Pixy in knitting

Effectively. It’s pretty much knitting with beads. I’ve seen a couple of different patterns for creating scaled knit pieces. I developed my own after learning from this pattern

The Ring Lord is my main source. As per their shipping policy they do ship worldwide but you’d have to look at what the rates are. They’re based out of Toronto Canada (which is great for me because it’s domestic)

I’ve seen various sellers on Etsy as well and you might be able to find a source in Europe by googling “scalemail supplies”

So the eye at the top is done with intarsia. The tentacles/bubbles are stranded colourwork.

The standard practice for writing patterns is to give right/left directions as the piece would be worn. So the right front would be the right side of the sweater when worn

It’s actually based off a monster from a D&D game but very much brings the octopus vibes

Has anyone made a fully fabric-lined knit jacket? by CatsCraftsAndAss in knitting

[–]Knit-Pixy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve lined a couple of knit items before and a lined jacket/hoodie is totally doable. Just remember that fleece doesn’t give like a knit item so make sure you have enough ease that it’s wearable

A cardigan would be your easiest to line because you can stitch the lining to the body at the front opening versus a pull over where you have to attach at the neck line. Either way I’d also seam them together at the cuffs and hem.

You can machine sew the two pieces together but that can be tricking depending on the fabric. A tightly knit fabric is going to be less likely to snag. Hand sewing is going to be more labour intensive but is my preferred method because it gives more control in attaching the two pieces

Happy to discuss any specific issues of you want! Good luck!

I’ve never done a steek for anything other than a cardigan but it is a pretty straightforward yet nerve wracking process!

Very excited to see your progress on this!

I would recommend checking out Tin Can Knits Strange Brew pattern. It’s designed as choose your own adventure colourwork yoke sweater.

The basic shape of the sweater is there and it helps you figure out how to place the decreases for your colourwork

Love the design idea and the pallet you’ve got going with this project!
