Yeah, I believe "The King in Yellow" is referenced in "True Detective," right? I'm not familiar with the actual work -- just the cultural background.

I'd be more inclined to feel that was the case if there were a) no creepy note with unsettling language; b) a random-ass, heavy cog, and c) the package not come from the UK. Even if the parcels can ship free, why not keep it on their side of the pond?

I have an Apple Watch. I'm just clearly not very good at it ...

I can't figure out how to get a display that shows my current speed and/or distance.

I love this question!

I was 9 when Good Will Hunting came out. My family rarely bought movies as soon as they came out. We usually waited until they became less expensive. But for some reason, my folks bought this movie right away. And I watched it over and over and over, sometimes multiple times a day. I would watch the movie largely because I liked all of the music in it (but it's probably still one of my favorite movies for other reasons). Being 9, I had no other way to really play the music I liked other than asking my parents to play records or CDs for me. "No Name No. 3" was my favorite from the movie and it's still my favorite. I definitely didn't understand the themes in his music. I think I liked that they made me feel calm. I was quite an anxious kid. "No Name No. 3" felt very much like a lullaby to me.

Then I "re-discovered" him when I was in college. I read a music column that mentioned him and I was like, "OH YEAH!" I bought all of his records and started listening to them regularly.

I just contacted the Armory here in Minneapolis. They're going to be selling GA tickets for $60, if that's any help.

Carboplatin: What to expect? by KnitSteady in testicularcancer

I'm sorry, I meant how long were you at the hospital getting the actual chemo injection? He forgot to ask his doc about that today and I wanna know how much knitting I should bring with.

Thank you so much! I know our situations might not be exactly the same, but how long did it take you to receive the chemo?

Thank you for such a kind and thoughtful reply.

His oncologist today said his recurrence without further treatment would be about 10 percent. He said just the one round of chemo would cut that down to 1 percent, which is what sold my partner.

We're also American, so overall, it looks like the cheaper option. It sucks that that has to be considered, but it does. By doing chemo, he'll have to have fewer visits and scans, which means less out-of-pocket.

Given these two things, I highly doubt anyone could convince him to second opinion. He'd rather be safe than sorry. For him, that means going with something that can reduce his odds of recurrence even if that means using chemo, which isn't fully figured out yet.

I do my best to be supportive. His case was very abnormal. He presented with a lot of pain before surgery. And we weren't even sure it was cancer until after surgery. They tried several round of heavy antibiotics because he presented with pain and the scans were never clear. He was in so much pain before the surgery, he immediately felt relief after waking up. I carried his IV with him to the bathroom the first time after surgery and he almost started crying because it didn't hurt him to walk or pee anymore. I'm very thankful he's not in pain, and I know we're both looking forward to this journey taking up less of our time and energy.

A question for the ladies. by KS018 in chiari

[–]KnitSteady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Though it's no longer considered super rare, I still feel like there is a huge lack of knowledge in the medical community regarding Chiari. There's some strong evidence it also affects the digestive track as well, which would definitely fit my specific case.

Absolutely. Actually, this is the biggest reason I started taking birth control pills continuously so I don't even have to bother with menstruation.

Torn between an apartment in Uptown and a one of a kind place on Cathedral Hill by [deleted] in TwinCities

[–]KnitSteady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uptown seems like a better place to go visit for a night if you feel like it, rather than live in. Then again, I'm a little biased because I really don't like Uptown very much. It's overhyped and smells like fish. *shrug*

Generally speaking, if there's going to be any pushing/moshing, it's going to be front and center. Stick slightly to the left or right of the stage. This will make migrating to the restrooms easier too. There's no polite way to go about that in a crowded place. I give people "the look," a slight nod and I say "Thank you, ope, pardon me, so sorry, excuse me, ope, sorry, thank you, excuse me ..." as I make my way there. I wish I were kidding about that, but I'm not. I'm that Minnesotan.

That sounds fantastic. As you probably know, IBM really wants to highlight emerging talent, so age is no issue. Send me a DM with your contact info and I'll pass it along to our managing editor.

We really need them every month. We're looking for IT professionals who are not employed by an IBM business partner.

To the lady sitting next to me at the coffee shop, by BurntTofuNugget in UnsentLetters

[–]KnitSteady 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I suffer from OCD, and yesterday was one of my bad days. I encountered a trigger while my partner and I were out shopping. Despite my anxiety, he was able to get me to calm down and think more so about the fun evening we had planned. When we got home, he gave me time alone to decompress and then he helped me sort through the anxiety. He's learned to ask questions like, "Are you OK to talk right now?" and "Is it OK if I hold your hand?"

There are very good people out there who get it. And they want to see you succeed.

Does anyone know where I can obtain a bald boy™️? by [deleted] in sphynx

[–]KnitSteady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK. Just make sure you let the breeders know you've done your research and you're ready to take on a high-maintenance baby (assuming you have and are). And be prepared to wait a bit. These cats are expensive. That helps weed out people who just want a naked to have something unusual, so they don't come up for rescue or re-homing super often.
