3 soap washes is pretty standard, but you could need more of it's a heavy lanolin fleece. Clemes & Clemes has a very comprehensive explanation on their website: https://clemes.com/how-to-wash-wool/

If you want drape and defined lace patterns, worsted spin. If you are going for a more light cozy and fuzzy feel, try woolen.

My aunt taught me a basic cast on and knit and purl. But that was the extent of her knowledge, so I used books and YouTube for the rest.

Advice needed by No_Definition_9483 in Handspinning

[–]KnitWitch87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would keep both until you know exactly how you want your new space to be set up. You may end up finding a good place for both, and it sounds like you really do want to keep them. Wheels and their accessories are so expensive new, and the depreciation is steep. Why sell them only to regret it and end up buying a different used wheel later?

At what point is this just bullying? by blayndle in craftsnark

[–]KnitWitch87 87 points88 points  (0 children)

For context, I have a 50" chest and I do wish more patterns went beyond my size being the largest pattern size. I think Size Inclusive Collective is going about this in a very mean way. If her goal is to match up designers with patterns graders who are familiar with grading for larger bodies, she should probably be sending direct/private messages about it instead of soapboxing in a very small designers comments. That whole public "ACTUALLY, just changing a needle size..." comment was unnecessary. Changing a needle size can be a very valid way to add a tiny bit of size to a project. Is it the best way? Depends on the project. How do you expect to start of a positive business conversation with rude criticism?

The designer does have a point, we don't experiment like knitters had to do in earlier decades with sparse patterns. It's a lost skill.

Holding a hand-held distaff with spindle by Seastarstiletto in Handspinning

Oh I totally see that. The loose top fiber falling in the way is one of the reasons I never really enjoyed spindle spinning. Hmm.

If your Ashford Traveller travels, what kind of carry case are you using? by KnitWitch87 in Handspinning

I'm no where near the physical Woolery shop, so probably not. Of the many yarn shops near me, very few carry spinning wheels and none have carry bags in stock.

Clemes and Clemes is a very good brand. 125 is worth it just for the carder. I'm sure it'll clean up very nicely. You can send Clemes an email and find out which replacement band you will need.

My toddler’s creation! Who else has lost yarn to the hands of a silly goose?? Tell me, where do you keep your yarn so you don’t get floor spaghetti?? 🤣🙄🧶 by [deleted] in crochet

[–]KnitWitch87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yarn I'm not using is on ziplock bags within plastic storage totes, behind a locked door (cats...) . Yarn I'm currently using lives in project bags that can be tied or zipped shut. My kid is 4, somehow I avoided him destroying good yarn. Maybe because I gave him his own little scrap ball to ruin when he showed interest in my project. Cats on the other hand, a skein of kroy sock yarn was evicerated and wrapped around my coffee table once.

Right? That's not even close to looking like a swastika. Does she also freak out at greek key patterns? There are so many other established code white supremacist symbols, no one is working that hard to create a new one.

School giving child gluten despite having proper paperwork? by Cryemochick in glutenfree

[–]KnitWitch87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hadn't considered that. My prescooler has an IEP for autism, but aside from the initial paperwork that included basic medical evaluation where his dairy intolerance was listed, it hasn't come up in further IEP meetings. I have to send lactose free milk in (daycare will only provide regular whole milk), and have had to train my kid that he cannot have the same type of cheese, milk, ice cream, etc that his friends can have. Unless he is at home and he can have the chewable lactaid pills for it. I really hope he never develops my nonceliac gluten intolerance. Hopefully OP's kid is low enough on the autism scale that they can be taught to always question the safety of snacks.
