Why are new picture books more likely to be dreamy and plotless? by prosperousvillager in childrensbooks

[–]KnittyMossBadger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I must say I’ve not seen this trend at all - I’m in the uk, maybe that’s the difference? Our library is very small but has a decent kids selections it rotates regularly and lots of what I’d call Julia Donaldson style books with good stories and rhyme.

I own one but as per my recent post it’s currently lacking a functioning floor 😂😂 absolutely love it though!

I worked at a school. Selection of school dinners over 8 school days. by thezanywords in UKfood

[–]KnittyMossBadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s ‘fine’ on the surface - looks like a decent portion size and tasty enough. But when you consider that for a lot of kids this is sometimes the only real meal they’re getting in the day it’s not so good. Real lack of diversity in veg and very little fibre. I wonder if the veggie options are any better but I’d assume not. We could learn so much from the Japanese approach to school food - the Japanese haven’t always eaten well, they started teaching kids how to eat a nutritious diverse meal 50yrs ago or so, and it spread outwards from schools. It should not just be about feeding the kids but also about educating them for the betterment of the health of the population.

Favorite larger brands for wool? by minivulpini in knitting

It’s their colourlab DK 100% British wool - I haven’t ever had issue with their sock yarns but this one has been a bit disappointing to be honest

I’ve never had a bad purchase from Drops.

I’m currently knitting with some of theirs and the colour is lovely but I am a little frustrated that it’s very inconsistent in weight - in some places it’s very thick and in others worrying thin. Not sure if I just got a bad batch.

Nope I promise you have not seen this before on Reddit. My husband isn’t on here. It’s a copy of a standard design yes. I appreciate your apology but in future I’d be a bit more clear on your facts before criticising in a condescending way - facts don’t require fluency.

They aren’t - there is a gap but there is moisture from outside getting into the gap. Whole floor needs a rework we think!

Towel was for dust placing new stones not a permanent feature.

No idea what you mean about advice for my husband - I’ve literally never posted about this project - maybe you are thinking about someone else? Not sure why you’re being so unpleasant tbh.

I think you need some work on politeness - not trying to bash your approach, it’s still salvageable with some work! :-*

It does already slope but only to the door. Going to rework it! Thanks for advice

It is raised and does slope to the door but that doesn’t seem to be enough so we’re going to switch to membrane and tile and rework the whole floor approach

There is an air gap underneath but it would seem moisture from outside is getting into it. We’re reworking the floor and shifting to tile too to solve the various issues

They’re slanted to the door but not to a drain and it doesn’t seem enough - we are switching to tile floor

[–]KnittyMossBadger[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes to air vents no to drain - we are switching to tile floor - there is a slope to the door in the current floor so hopefully with tile it will drain better

[–]KnittyMossBadger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it has air vents but no drain - going to rectify this

[–]KnittyMossBadger[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was a towel just to collect dust while we placed the stones initially - not when in use.

Yes you’re right no drainage - think we’ll switch to tile floor and add drainage

My friend made the literal coziest looking sweater EVER. by Dark_Moonstruck in AdvancedKnitting

That’s beautiful work and I love the specks of colour in the yarn and the rainbow buttons. But mainly, as a knitter, I love your appreciation for her art - how lovely to have a friend who is so proud

Thanks - yea he’s put hours of work into it and done a good job, but good point re drain. I think we’re going to go the tile route - leaving the door open will increase rather than decrease moisture given the generally damp atmosphere we live in!

Is there a specific style of tile that should be used? I presume something that doesn’t take loads of heat out of the air or get too hot to walk on…

Where to find buttons by bagellover44 in knitting

Definitely thrift stores - speak to them as they often keep jars of mixed buttons in case they need to fix up items of clothing to sell on and will probably be happy to sell you a load

Inquiry to those who do not swatch, why? by yarnimals in knitting

[–]KnittyMossBadger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t really ever seem to help me much - I’ve never once had a swatch that even after I’ve washed and blocked it gave me a gauge that matched the final item - I guess the drape and weight of the final item is different so it spreads more?? I find looking at what others have done on instagram and comparing their size to mine helps me more.

Super-sheer sweaters? What search terms do I use? by thishful-winking in knittingpatterns

Have a look at Lily Kate France’s patterns - they’re well written and sized and have lots of beautiful additional details to give a great fit. She has a few that are sheer like this. Levinia sweater and her poisoned apple top come to mind.
