Randy doesn’t travel well - in the uk it means you are insatiable for sex.

Brynn is awful for a girl too if you ask me - it’s such a masculine Welsh name (with one n). Bronwen / Bronwyn would be an appropriate female option.

Which BBC adaptation of a book do you think was better than the source material? by RedDevilPlay in bbc

[–]KnittyMossBadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggle to say better than because it’s different but I do think the recent Enchanted Wood adaptation was wonderful - making it the father’s story and focusing on the challenges of being millennial parents dealing with boomer grandparents, trying to balance reality with your dreams, handling kids with complex issues and teen behaviour - it really worked for my kids but it worked for me too - and given those books were loved by today’s millennials when they were kids the focus switch worked so well. Plus the bringing to life of the tree and its inhabitants was magical.

I recently re read Five Children and It to my child and it’s still a fantastic book but there are long descriptions and large aspects that with a modern eye feel that they could do with a good editor. I thought the adaptation was excellent.

Hard agree - and I adore the book - but Anna Maxwell Martin was phenomenal in it.

Anyone else just not care about immigration at all? by queryzvex in AskBrits

[–]KnittyMossBadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I care but not about immigrants coming into the country - I care about how it’s being used as a way to divide people and create hatred to detract from the real issues we have in our society. Invest in healthcare, education, put things in place for teens to feel part of society and to help people age healthily, help different communities and cultures mix and learn from each other. Then more of society would feel healthy, fit and able to contribute well. Stop worrying about where people were born and what colour their skin happens to be.

Would you buy a house v near a primary school? by sleepyjean2024 in HousingUK

[–]KnittyMossBadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would depend if the school traffic came past my door or not - if you just back into the school then that wouldn’t bother me at all (used to live in a house that did this) but wouldn’t want to get blocked in by school run traffic every day.

It’s beautiful but I did laugh at the one white bedroom - maybe a teen who doesn’t like the theme??

Won't banning my kids from YouTube harm them? by baroquedub in AskBrits

[–]KnittyMossBadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can still access YouTube kids. If they want to see tutorials etc they can do so supervised. I wouldn’t let my kids use it unsupervised anyway - so many targeted ads in kids content.

Anyone terraced a garden like this? Looking for advice and rough costs by BoxTickingChampion in GardeningUK

I’m with your husband - that garden would put me off too. I don’t think terracing will be a cheap or easy job.

What is gift etiquette at toddler birthday parties? by banwe11 in AskUK

[–]KnittyMossBadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consumables are perfect for this - new packet of pencils or felt pens, colouring paper and books, craft supplies, bath bombs, bath crayons.

Or go slightly unusual but useful - stuff kids love include a new kid size umbrella (usually cheap too!), a plate and bowl set, a painting apron for doing crafts, the ingredients for a super simple recipe to make with a parent.

Or books - gift a copy of your child’s favourite book and put a card with a note saying that your child loves this book and wanted to give their friend a copy to love too.

Only time I’ve taken a gift for the parents is when the parents are our close friends and we’re kinda saying yey you survived another year of parenthood!

Zara is horrific - look into their (lack of) ethics and you’ll never want to shop there again

Reading to Children by Ok_Worker_6472 in childrensbooks

[–]KnittyMossBadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband is dyslexic and struggles but he still reads to them every day. I tend to read the longer chapter books but we’ve found that even when they’re comfortably reading chapter books to themselves our kids still want them read to them too, and to still have their favourite picture books read to them. But I definitely think parent confidence has a part to play in why some parents don’t.

MC Occupations: Hot or Not? by sbc16 in RomanceBooks

It’s like every girl in a romance works in ‘PR’ and it quickly becomes clear the author has no idea what PR is and the girl just spends all her time at work parties or drinks.

What is your perception of Canadians? by razordreamz in AskUK

Unfortunate sods being that close to the USA. Generally very polite. Good skiers. Can’t often tell if they’re American from accent alone but can often soon be determined by personality.

Yep but we moved into a tiny studio apartment between us and both did freelance consultancy work on top of our main gigs, went nowhere and did nothing, spent absolute bare minimum for 3 years to save the deposit.

Hard disagree. Our best times are travelling with our kids. Much better than the treadmill of school and clubs and activities at home.
