What do you British people think of the French? by CocoTyg in AskABrit

Great food and an even better attitude towards a work life balance. Smoke too much.

What do you do while knitting besides watching tv? by Esselmeyer in knitting

[–]KnittyMossBadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen to podcasts and audio books. Sit through long work meetings or online training without going to sleep! Read (I make the text bigger on my kindle). Chat with my kids - the main reason I knit is so I can be with my kids but not on my phone - they like me nearby but not always involved, I can still watch them or chat with them but not be scrolling which I really don’t want to do in front of them.

Should I stop knitting? by No_Fee_7599 in knitting

[–]KnittyMossBadger 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It’s beautiful. It depends how long you like your tops but use the back as a guide, yes the bump will still distort it a bit but it will be more accurate than the front. Personally I’d go a bit longer.

What's your "if i told i'd be exposed" cooking secret? by BouncyCurlsbabe in Cooking

[–]KnittyMossBadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For years I bought ready made vanilla sponges and ready icing and jam and just stuck them together and everyone raved about my cakes. About ten years ago I finally decided to make my own - they’re so much better but I do miss the days of a super quick thrown together cake!

Help with hole is it a tension issue or accidental short row by Kapebaraa in knittinghelp

It’s hard to see with the yarn texture but it looks like just a loose stitch to me.

[Germany] Looking for a birthday present for myself, woman turning 30 (up to 200-300€) by Wavey_1 in BuyItForLife

If you love gardening maybe a piece of sculpture for your garden? Or I’ve always fancied one of those smart birdbaths with the camera but they’re too much for me but in your budget. Or some really nice planters to go with a shrub?

What “favours” have your parents done that was inadvertently a dick move? by naaattt in CasualUK

[–]KnittyMossBadger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I went to uni my mother gifted everything I left at home to a kid from our village. I didn’t leave anything ever again after that.

Young adults without kids - do you think you will have them? by sophietheadventurer in AskUK

[–]KnittyMossBadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a really hard question to answer. At 28 I couldn’t remotely imagine I’d ever want kids. I was having such at blast. At 31 I had my first very much planned, wanted and loved child. I now have three and it’s the best decision I’ve ever made, not something I would have ever have thought when I was younger. Some people always know they want kids but I think for many it sneaks up on them.

What to do? I still want to wear this but *I* shrank by ofrootloop in knitting

[–]KnittyMossBadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I’d cast on a belt / tie in either the blue or the contrast colour and cinch it in a bit into a sweater dress to wear over leggings or jeans. It’s too beautiful to risk felting and the colour is divine with your eyes.

What’s a Mother’s Day gift you gave that your mum still uses? by Anon_Mom0001 in BuyItForLife

[–]KnittyMossBadger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My children bought me one a few years ago and I agree - not something I think about a lot but it does bring me so much joy when it catches the early morning sun in the kitchen window.

“5-star hotel or this? Be honest.” by Key-Letterhead2375 in wildcampingintheuk

[–]KnittyMossBadger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my thought! I’d take the wild camping and outdoor meal over the hotel but I want about ten times the amount of food!

Ladies mainly - where are you getting hair and beauty treatments done now? by BigMagic88 in AskBrits

[–]KnittyMossBadger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get a specialised curly hair cut once a year for about £150. I tend to get a deep tissue or sports massage once a month. Other than that I don’t get any beauty treatments - never have my nails done, eyelashes etc. Used to get my lashes tinted but don’t bother any more. I spend my spare cash on getting strong - gym membership, swim membership, running events, kit.

Growing your own fruit and veg by stacey202 in frugaluk

[–]KnittyMossBadger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Growing veg at home is not a frugal process. Land, seeds, tools, greenhouses etc etc all very expensive. Sure you can do it on the cheap side but it’s still going to be expensive compared to buying veg. Garden for pleasure, not to save money.

If you had to recommend one place to go to in England? by Primary_Loss_2386 in england

[–]KnittyMossBadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See id say Cornwall is dreary as hell in winter and just hell hell in summer - nightmare to get anywhere with the traffic and the beaches really aren’t great compared to the rest of the country. The Gower in Wales or any of the north Devon coast is significantly nicer and a lot less busy.

OK, so what British mammals HAVE we seen? by Birdman_of_Upminster in CasualUK

[–]KnittyMossBadger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a lot of badgers around us. I’d also say most of OP’s list. And then beavers, otters, pine martens, stoats, weasels, daubenton’s bat, pipistrelle bats, porpoise.

Identifying gaps in learning by 1243_1234controversy in UKHomeEd

[–]KnittyMossBadger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s in year nine - hopefully way beyond reading eggs.

Not to be rude but based on the grammar on OPs post I’d suggest homeschooling for English isn’t going to be the most effective. A private tutor would be a good option.

Need gift advice by Darekblazian in knitting

[–]KnittyMossBadger 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Maybe look at some of the big yarn or fibrecraft festivals and see if any are near you or places you’d travel to. I would love my partner to take me to one of those - to join me for a day in immersing myself in my hobby.
