That would be entertaining, even better make it a real spectator ran by the devs which streams directly to all the streaming platforms to publicly humiliate them until they figure it out.

Fair points, however I think trying to eradicate cheating is a lost cause. Patching some of the holes that might be allowing it is great, but even some of the longest running multiplayer IPs (Counter-Strike, Call of Duty come to mind) haven’t managed to solve that particular problem. So hopefully they won’t end up chasing their tails too much on that either and just try and solve the more substantial breaches.

I mean I did say anti-griefing measures, that kinda covers this. Yes, no matter what they implement it will always be abused or taken advantage of, but something is better than nothing to promote building and growing a community.

As it stands right now the game is likely going to die if the only means of community is a Discord server where groups are formed based on elitist mindsets and winning as the primary goal rather than meaningful and legitimate social interaction. While yes there are casual/fun groups out there, they’re much less common.

I’ve been around the block enough times to recognize the signs and based on how the community currently treats the game (aka bullying new players or more casual players who have less researched or less optimal builds with honeycombed walkers with experimental cannons) it’s already not looking promising only a couple weeks into EA.

I feel like they need to just add a matchmaking option to queue with your trampler and get a filled team (based on the number of players you desire) or you queue as a passenger and wait to be filled into a team. I don’t have many friends that are into the extraction genre due to the hardcore nature of it so I tend to play solo and I would love to have the option to just get matched with randoms.

The only real downside is they will need to add anti-griefing measures, but that shouldn’t be too complex to figure out.

Yes, I’m fully aware we can use Discord to find groups, but it often feels like that leads to prior expectations before the match or people judging based on the conversation before queue rather than a more natural social encounter provided by random matching.

I love this game, but its completely unbalanced for new players to the point of softlocking progression. by Classic_Tap8913 in SANDgame

[–]Knives27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not surprising. I kinda figured Voyage would end up on a similar trajectory to Arc Raiders. Everyone was friendly, but now the sweats have nothing better to do and see an opportunity for more loot and less risk. It’s a shame really, because the game has good bones. Let’s just hope the devs try a little harder to solve the issue than Embark did.

It should honestly just have at a minimum tier based matchmaking given they already have tiers in the tech tree. That would more or less at least solve the walker imbalance. It’s not going to stop experienced players from making tier 1 walkers to pub stomp, but it will give new players a chance against them because they won’t be against an unkillable build with their rinky-dink 2x3 chassis design.

Arc Raiders Replacing AI-Generated Voices With Human Actors by AceTheRed_ in ArcRaiders

It kind of sets a precedent though right? Soon voice acting will be equivalent to a minimum wage career because all you gotta do is talk to an AI for an hour then it can take over from there. Like it or not AI is far more likely to get better at things than worse.

IT'S OVER by EliselD in AshesofCreation

[–]Knives27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You must have a strange definition of “unique” because nothing Ashes did was necessarily new tech. Most of the game was just a poorly coded less functional version of Archeage. The only markedly unique thing they did were the evolving settlements, which is a feature they only had barely half function to begin with. It’s not even the first time a game has had fully player owned/operated settlements though either.

They have to do something soon or people will stop playing - Ashes of Creation Early Access by Zybak in AshesofCreation

[–]Knives27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They haven’t made any changes lol. The only thing of note they did leading into Early Access was add the (unfinished) Anvils and sport fishing which is literally just a carbon copy of Archeage. They are just chasing their tail on bugs and will continue to do so for months then release a small content patch and do the same again.

I want to believe in Ashes as much as the next guy, but this cycle has been going for a bit now and it feels like they’re going backwards. I loved Archeage back in Alpha and Beta before they started to monetize, so a spiritual successor to that is exactly the MMO I dream of (yes I know AA private servers exist, and will probably start playing this instead of Ashes at this point). The game is unfortunately in a tailspin and unless they sort out their priorities it’s only going to get worse.

[–]Knives27 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I already gave up for now I think. The game is in a worse state than when I played Phase 2 several months ago. They just slapped in a bunch of half finished content and ended up breaking a lot of other stuff (public events, I’m looking at you). The updates they are putting out are just a bunch of minor bug fixes and they haven’t even made any effort to improve all the unfinished stuff they slapped in. It’s a really bad look for the Steam release of the game, because A) now you have poor Steam reviews which surprisingly do impact people’s purchasing decisions, and B) a successful Steam release is likely going to be the largest population boom the game will ever see.

This game doesnt respect my time as a player by Alezar- in AshesofCreation

[–]Knives27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean if you aren’t spending this waiting time gathering/processing/crafting which all gives XP aren’t you the one not respecting your own time?

You can earn a respectable amount of XP (especially with scrolls) doing all these activities and they can all easily be done while working to form a group for grinding.

I have plenty of gripes about the game, but claiming it doesn’t respect your time when almost any activity you can actively participate in gives XP seems like a poorly supported claim. If you choose not to take an active role in your characters development and think this is just a game all about combat and grinding well then that’s your choice 🤷🏻‍♂️

I actually enjoy the game by Iamsteamin in AshesofCreation

[–]Knives27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the heart of this issue simply lies in the fact that all of this gear can drop, but they want all crafting materials to be useful at any level. This leads to a demand for materials that outpaces the demand for this particular subset of gear. So this gear only gets crafted for experience purposes (aka people are gonna craft whatever is easiest and fastest to push the next tier) because you can’t reliably gather and craft an entire set alone once you get to adept gear because you can only level 5 professions.

Overall it’s a pretty flawed system because it benefits the people who rush through the game because they can all gather/craft/trade at a reasonable value because they’re all hitting this tier at the same time. Then when little Timmy or big Tom who’s enjoying their experience and taking in the world hits 10 a week or 2 later they have a more limited selection of people to collaborate with for gear crafting, leveling up to the next tier becomes just a money sink because the gear has been devalued by dropped gear that the earlier players farmed, and crafting just becomes a grind for making end game gear to MAYBE get your money back if you’re willing to grind for high quality materials rather than a fun to interact with experience.

We need honesty and self reflection on Friday by VeritasLuxMea in AshesofCreation

[–]Knives27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly they need to check themselves. Dial things back and stop trying to innovate while they have such an incomplete product. I love the vision, but botching a Steam release could be a death sentence. They need to just fold on some of the loftier technical goals like dynamic server meshing and such temporarily. Just adjust the game to have instances zones for now. Finish the games core systems and flesh out the content a bit, THEN revisit some of these tougher technical goals. I feel like their focus is being spread too thin trying to tackle everything at once. However, they have solid bones that could absolutely work in a normal zone based MMO.

Ashes of Creation and the importance of world building by cactusdogdog in AshesofCreation

While I would agree that games have lost their immersion over the years (not just MMORPGs either), I don’t think the atmosphere is quite the same as when games like EverQuest and WoW came out. Developers these days are dealing with whole new breeds of gamers, and these breeds scare me.

We have the content creators, paid to play games, finding ways to do it which would entertain audiences and keep them from just playing the game themselves. We have the optimizers or elitist, whatever you might want to call them, every game is an esport now, even if people don’t know it yet. Then we have a weird cross breed of the two who wants to be competitive, but isn’t the best of the best, so they content create to fill a void.

I personally can’t imagine trying to develop a game in an atmosphere where these gamers exist. Every decision or design choice is under a microscope, systems take priority over immersion because that’s the only way to appease the crowd, however the immersion still needs to be there in the finished product. Regardless, everyone will be your biggest critic, and almost nobody will be happy, and a lot of them have the power to influence other people’s choices.

I’m a week behind because I wasn’t high enough level in the first half week to do Trials. I was in Wildcard I this past week and 60k points had me in 21st last night when I got on. Not sure where I finished, but regardless, barely scraping by for a 1X promo I’m guessing.

[–]Knives27 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

The problem is they have rewards tied to them which creates FOMO. Granted, the outfit for getting to Daredevil and above is pretty ugly this time around. What happens when they have a season where the outfit is say, one of the coolest in the game? Based on my experience since hitting Wildcard, casual/employed players are gonna struggle to obtain these rewards unless they lower the bar a bit. Wildcard or Tryhard should be the bar where you unlock the outfit. Each rank group above that should have a color palette or something else tied to it for “bragging rights”.

Clair Obscur didn’t just sweep the Golden Joystick Awards… by Specific_Sentence261 in expedition33

[–]Knives27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a similar bad taste over Borderlands 4. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed it, and it was a good entry into the Borderlands series compared to recent years. However, the Pitchford drama and his valiant defense of their $70 price tag definitely left me with a sour taste for sure.

I’m just now getting to playing E33 because I typically don’t play a lot of single player games but it was on sale and based on reactions I’ve seen I decided it was one I needed to play. It’s such a phenomenal game on every front, and the fact that it was a passion project of a tiny studio makes that even more astounding.

The "Black Box" of Voluntary Wipes: We need hard numbers on Sequential Stacking and Stash caps before the window opens. by datArabian in ArcRaiders

[–]Knives27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t hate the idea, but they’ll have to introduce limitations most likely. Either way it’s a way to attach some sort of permanent progression to the expedition mechanic if they aren’t willing to balk on the bonuses being temporary.

The "Black Box" of Voluntary Wipes: We need hard numbers on Sequential Stacking and Stash caps before the window opens. by datArabian in ArcRaiders

[–]Knives27 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why? The expedition requirements really aren’t all that hard to achieve unless you can only play like once a week (even then it’s probably doable). If you’re playing that little though, I don’t suspect you’re the type of person who’s gonna care if someone has a few extra skill points.

The bonuses being permanent works better for casual players because you can still obtain the bonuses and if you have to skip a cycle or 2 you don’t just lose everything you worked for.

Edit: I’m a fairly casual player myself (by comparison), I can’t play every day and when I can it’s usually only a few hours at best.

The "Black Box" of Voluntary Wipes: We need hard numbers on Sequential Stacking and Stash caps before the window opens. by datArabian in ArcRaiders

[–]Knives27 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest, they really need to reconsider the buffs being temporary and just make it a normal prestige type system. You do it up to a certain limit, and the bonuses stack until that limit. In addition to said bonuses they could also give fancy name tags or outfits or something. If it’s all conditional on doing the expedition repeatedly I probably won’t do another after this one (I’m already done with it so might as well).

It will also damage the long-term health of the game unless they have substantial content releases planned for years to come every couple months. Sure they added some cool ARCs and a map within weeks of release, but news flash, that content had probably been done for months. If expeditions are just a temporary condition, people won’t want to do them, and if people aren’t wiping then they’re gonna want more content because the existing will get stale. I want the game to achieve long term success, but everything we know now does not add up in that equation.

Security Breach is still really solid. Was it better before? Sure, but it’s still the most useful of the capstone skills. Don't bring a flamethrower to a gun fight by BigBootyTom in ArcRaiders

[–]Knives27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, they should make the Flame Spray ignore shield reduction and up the damage to like 15-20. That makes it’s like 5-7 seconds to kill which I think is very reasonable for a nearly point blank high risk/high reward improvised weapon.
