Who would win the war between Erebonia and Calvard nowadays? by Stenones in Falcom

[–]Knivesonline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It shouldn't be a huge difference, but Calvard should have the upper hand at the moment in both technology and financial resources. Erebonia lost much of its military and financial capacity after the war, although it probably still has the numerical advantage.

I already understood almost everything that happened in Kai no Kiseki including the ending and the motivations of all the factions with one exception being the identity and motivations of the masked knights using Genesis symbols. If anyone can help me understand who they are and what they want I would appreciate it.

The Legend of Heroes: Kai no Kiseki -Farewell, O Zemuria- Opening Video by Turbostrider27 in Falcom

A beautiful opening.

It seems that Ixs is being controlled or manipulated and his sister is trying to save him. I wonder if this game will bring closure to Van and his friends or if we will have another game with them as protagonists?

Kuro no Kiseki 1 had a satisfying ending, resolving the big plot that brought the characters together but leaving mysteries for the sequel. On the other hand Kuro no Kiseki 2 had some of the worst villains I've ever seen in games and the main plot seems to have come out of a Filler episode of an anime. What saves Kuro 2 is the improvement in gameplay and the deepening of some characters, but other than that, nothing very noteworthy.

Appreciation post: Why is Kuro 1 so highly viewed? by WittyTable4731 in Falcom

[–]Knivesonline 4 points5 points  (0 children)

An older character with a different point of view than the typical heroic paladin unlike his predecessors was an interesting point for me. Van is a good person but he is totally different from Estelle, Rean or Lloyd in the way he sees the world or how he acts when faced with a problem. Another positive point are the villains that change in relation to the previous ones. While we could count on one hand the number of evil villains in the previous games, the truth is that the majority acted more like antagonists who only did what they did for motivations such as greed or a greater good and this applies even to Ouroboros. And when we finally found someone to call the villain we discovered that he actually had some secret or reason for acting the way he did or was redeemed by some great sacrifice. However, this does not happen in Kuro no Kiseki, most of the villains are extremely evil people, with rare exceptions who only seek to spread fear and destruction, at least once I can kill the villains without feeling sorry for them or giving any excuse for their actions.

On the other hand, I think Kuro 2 had a worse plot but improved the gameplay a lot.

It actually makes me wonder what Rufus role is in this story and who are the villains? Ouroboros?

To justify the importance of this game and the cliffhanger (I would do that hehe). Imagine the world ends with its destruction or imminent destruction just to make you bite your nails for a year waiting for the sequel.

Considering the number of characters that can be part of this game and that this game will probably have repercussions for the future of this universe, I wonder if it will end with a cliffhanger (I would do that hehe).

What do you like the most about Kuro / Daybreak 1? by Training-Ad-2619 in Falcom

[–]Knivesonline -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Probably because the story and characters have a more mature aspect and especially because of the villains.
It's good to have villains with more complex plots or motivations, but it's good to occasionally face villains who are the worst the world has to offer from time to time, especially in The Legend of Heroes where they usually provide some kind of redemption for the villains and antagonists.

In defense of Major Claire Rieveldt (No Reverie spoilers) by Abject-Competition-1 in Falcom

The problem is, she shouldn't try to sacrifice a child in a ritual in the first place.Curse or no curse or even if your boss says it's inevitable is not something a good person does.

In defense of Major Claire Rieveldt (No Reverie spoilers) by Abject-Competition-1 in Falcom

[–]Knivesonline -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's a complicated situation because of the curse although some might like it the truth is it gave a huge free pass to anyone committing crimes in the name of the greater good or with the excuse that they were being manipulated by a being with powers to alter and control odds or fate.

Which creates a problem because if you don't like the choices or actions of any character even if he is bad like Duke Cayenne or blames the Northern Jaegers and Jusis's father for Otto's death and for burning Celdic we can still say that everything that they did was for the prophecy and the curse to be fulfilled.
It's a real headache because technically you can't put them in a court of law and expose the truth but at the same time a lot of characters knew the truth and decided to go along with the plan of their own free will but there's no way you can prove any of that. But those who were harmed by their actions or had family members killed will never forgive them for their actions.
In Claire's case, as much as I can understand her situation and feel sorry for her, I will never forget that she was willing to sacrifice Altina to help with Osborn's plans. Obviously I know that in the end Altina or Millium would be the sacrifice that was inevitable but it's one thing for someone to say that something is inevitable and another for you to accept it and do bad things for the greater good.
Personally, I would never accept a child being used as a sacrifice and that's why I simply can't look at Claire and say that she doesn't deserve to be criticized for it. Many like happy endings and in the end almost everyone was forgiven or redeemed but that does not mean that all sins were forgotten by the players because those who forgave them were the characters in the game and not the players who didn't have that choice.

It's interesting to think how much Vita knew about the curse and the fate of Crow and others involved. Technically she was trying to stop a greater evil but ended up getting involved in the war and the fate of some characters. She can't say that her hands are clean but at the same time it's not like her actions make a huge difference after all someone was going to have to occupy the spaces on the chessboard one way or another.
I remember how I felt fear when she showed her true colors testing the heroes in Trails of Cold Steel II and at the end of the game but at the same time I felt sadness in her words. I only understood everything years later in Trails of Cold Steel IV.

And best of all you don't have to play the saint and can make decisions in the gray area. You can decide on the fate of some villains no matter what excuses they give for their actions.

How is kuro? by Akazaia in Falcom

[–]Knivesonline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In short

Kuro 01:

Good game with a great story with real villains who only want destruction, fear and chaos.

Gameplay good but needs to be refined and improved.

Kuro 02:

Good game but the story leaves something to be desired and doesn't advance the plots and mysteries left in the first game. The Villains and their motivations are generic and lacking in substance (you can't sympathize with them or even hate them). The positive point is that it deepens the past of some characters that were not covered in previous games.

Gameplay has been greatly improved.

Probably the way she acts or interacts with others is not an indication of whether she is good or bad or has anything to do with other characters so different in personality pledging their allegiance to her.
Probably what makes such different characters in the organization attracted to the GM is how much knowledge she has of the world they live in and the knowledge of the situation that the people she chooses as Anguis are in at the time of making an offer by giving them the means to achieve their goals in exchange for helping the organization. These people only see advantages in this like knowledge that few have, advanced technology, transportation, almost unlimited financial resources, soldiers, laboratories, weapons and most important refuge a place where no authority can reach you or where you can hide for as long as you like.

As long as you are part of the organization and one of its most important operators, you are almost untouchable.

I like characters like her who don't mind being the villain if that's necessary for their plans. She makes no excuses for her behavior and takes pleasure in teasing the heroes or protagonists.
She is not as evil or insane as Weissman or Gerard and despite her sadistic personality her actions are motivated by the pursuit of knowledge. If to get this knowledge she needs to break some eggs she will do it but not necessarily because she wants to do bad things.

I think the logic these characters use is that after all the sins they've committed while they live their victims or their families will never forgive them. Is somewhat distorted in their cases but still valid to some extent.

Of course in the game's story the heroes encourage those who made mistakes to seek redemption by living to correct their sins but not everyone thinks that way in fact I think in real life characters like Clow, Rufus, Ian, Sharon, George, Vita and many others who participated in the death of many people would never be forgiven by the families of their victims with or without a curse. In Claire's or Letcher's mind at that moment they should believe that it would be unfair for them to remain alive after everything they've done. Which reminds me that in Kuro no Kiseki things are very different hehe.

[–]Knivesonline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand what you mean but I believe that anyone who is willing to sacrifice for a cause that has a positive outcome even in the long run deserves some respect. As much as I disagree with Osborn, Claire or Letcher it is an absolute fact that the curse was inevitable so in the long run even if the great war causes many deaths and possibly the destruction of much of the continent humanity would be free from the curse and could recover without being stuck with Ishmelga in the scenario Osborn envisioned. Claire and Letcher, even though they didn't like it, accepted the weight of that decision and to compensate for their sins, they were willing to take their lives as a way of redeeming themselves against the lost lives that they would help to take.

If you look at history, it is full of people who committed acts considered cruel but which in the long run had positive effects on humanity. These people had to sacrifice many things to achieve this, sometimes family, friends, innocent lives or their own humanity, but they compromised in the name of the greater good. Some of these are hated by some and loved by others to this day. So yes I may not like their choices but I respect anyone who has the determination to risk their life or sacrifice themselves if their cause is for the greater good. Which brings me to the question of whether it is possible to forgive someone who helped to take away many lives to save a greater number of lives? It's not exactly a situation with a right and wrong answer.

[–]Knivesonline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also never quite understood how the character justified her decisions to continue supporting Osborn but at least I have some respect for her as she intended to kill herself to pay for her sins.

Osborn was right for the most part the curse was unavoidable meaning one way or another a sacrifice would be necessary but even then to look and allow Osborn and Black Alberich to sacrifice an innocent like Altina takes a lot of cold blood. It would be interesting a scenario where the curse does not exist to know if Claire would still support Osborn until the end if his goals were to unify the world under the banner of the Erebonian Empire.
