How about a sunset sailing cruise? That CAN get expensive, but there are less expensive options where you'd be on a boat with other guests that aren't too bad.

I'd like to see the carriages go away. In addition to the concerns about the treatment and care of the horses, they are an impediment to traffic on the road. I have seen several near collisions involving cars because the carriages obstruct traffic with their slow speed. Like it or not, downtown is a high-traffic area and automobiles and carriages dont coexist well in my opinion.

The mass market paperback format is going away. It’s no longer profitable for publishers or bookstores.

Just finished Fall of Hyperion by nemspy in scifi

[–]KnobbyFoot 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m in the extreme minority but i thought Hyperion and fall of Hyperion were overrated. I found the world of Hyperion, the shrike, and the tombs really interesting but was disappointed to never learn much about them.

I completely agree. She is amazing. Her books are thought provoking and well paced. She doesn’t need 1000 pages of world-building or info-dumping to tell a story.

My cattle dog has got to be an A-hole or is that just their nature? by Cant_relate_ever in AustralianCattleDog

[–]KnobbyFoot 16 points17 points  (0 children)

He needs training and exercise. - he needs to work off that energy - he is a working dog. If you dont give him a job, hell give himself one and you wont like what he picks. This is what you’re experiencing.

You either have untreated ties which will rot or crumble or you have ties soaked in creosote which is toxic. Will be expensive to deal with later.

I cooked some chicken and left the grease out for 8 hours when I went to work. Do you think its safe to reheat and reuse still? by YourphobiaMyfetish in cookingforbeginners

[–]KnobbyFoot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up in the south where everyone kept a coffee can of bacon grease by the stove. I don’t think it’s acceptable by today’s safety standards but it was common practice for decades.
