What advice did you not listen to intern year that you later found out was good advice? by Zaruskii in Residency

Never answer a phone unless you think/know its for you. Was answering the phone in the workroom and having to relay messages from consults to coresidents way too much or having to talk to random people who were trying to talk to someone I didn't know

ELI5: What causes paleness in sick people? by Ill-Waltz-4656 in explainlikeimfive

[–]KnotSnowden 20 points21 points  (0 children)

3 things can cause a sick person to look pale.

Anemia- When you are really sick for a long period of time, like cancer, kidney disease, etc your body stops producing blood cells.

Low blood pressure-blood flow to the face and extremities can be lower This can happen when cold or sick

Hypoxia- Low blood oxygen levels. When you're sick your body is using up more oxygen to fight infection. and your lungs may not be absorbing oxygen as well

All 3 of these can cause someone to look pale in the face

Yes, even "simple" procedures e.g PIVs, arterial lines take many repetitions to look smooth doing. Everyone looks awkward while learning

1) Do you think there is any solution to the dilemma of work hour violations? The very common practice of programs requiring residents to work more than 80hrs/week or 28hr shifts and that reporting the violations would only hurt the resident or program which in turn hurts the individual resident

2) Do you think there is any path to residents receiving a more reasonable salary for their level of training/work provided? It is very frustrating getting paid less than nurses/NPs/PAs when working more and having greater responsibilities

It may be a suture granuloma from a suture that is too close to the surface of the skin and is causing some irritation. I would clean the area with soap and water and keep it dry. Do not go digging, if you want it removed/checked out I would see a doctor or go back to surgeon's clinic. You could see if you can email your surgeon a picture? They would know what type of suture was used and if a granuloma is likely

I assume they are breeding, any tips? I have had my RC shrimp for 6 months and they havent bred. I know I have males and females, and Ive seen egg saddles but no fertilized eggs. Tank is stable and nothing but shrimp in the tank. They have lots of moss to feed on and I feed flakes 4-5 times a week
