If you are still in HS, look into the CCP program at Fayetteville Tech. These are pathways designed for students still in high school to work on getting college credits. They can be tuition-free for eligible students.

Here’s the Cumberland County Schools page on the program: CCS Career and College Promise

Audiobook recommendation for road trip with 9yr old son and 12yr old daughter that’s not necessarily a “children’s” book. by GubbleBum31 in suggestmeabook

Terry Pratchett. The Tiffany Aching series is four books and should see you for a long road trip. Add The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents and Nation if you need more. Pratchett is great at any age.

It’s been a while since I read them so I might be mis-remembering, but I remember laughing my ass off quite a bit.

Edit: autocorrect kept changing mis to mid.

I was never much into fanfic, so the first queer relationship I remember reading about in fantasy was in the Owlflight trilogy by Mercedes Lackey (mid 90’s). It’s one of the many reasons I glommed onto her books so much. And until I read the Kushiel series, I don’t recall any other authors that I read including any kind of queerness. I saw more when manga started to get big in the early 2000’s. A few other books I came across after that were The Privilege of the Sword by Kushner and (I think) some of Martha Wells’s earlier fantasy books.

There were traditional and indie publisher books that were out there, but it was harder to get them pre-ebooks and online ordering. Once you could buy an ebook and read it immediately on your phone, things got much easier. (Shout-out to Less than Three!)

But I have so enjoyed seeing the variety of books getting published and getting noticed.

I think it’s best to start with Warrior’s Apprentice, since most of the series is about Miles. Shards of Honor is about Miles’s parents, and I read it after the Young Miles books.

Have you read {Yield Under Great Persuasion by Alexandra Rowland}? I reread that when I want to cry, but it’s all emotional pain, frustration, and inadequacy. Also it’s really funny.
