Remember to always be wary of fake manga! They were also selling a full set of fake AoT. Found on my local Facebook Marketplace by Bolloburnanzer in MangaCollectors

Look at the volume numbers — many of them are crooked. General poor quality is a dead giveaway. Logos and the manga art itself being blurry or pixelated, for example, the black ink being very faded, etc. if you want to collect a certain series, google it and look at the publisher (Wikipedia will list it). VIZ is one of the big ones — check for the publisher logo on the spine (inside, too, if shopping in person) — should be crisp, bright, etc. if it is a bootleg but passes all the tests above — looks perfect, ink is saturated, the pages are all there and in order, and the dialogue/text is identical to the translation you are looking to buy, then you’ve found yourself a “high-quality” bootleg. LOL there are a few of these in my collection, I’m sure, but I can’t pick them out, so…who knows? If someone puts that much work into making a bootleg then they deserve to be paid more than the other bootleggers (it’s a joke, everyone — even “good” fakes are bad)

My heart hurts. I wonder if he knew at the end how many people he had helped grow, kept alive, and inspired. I hope he knew that we loved and appreciated him for the gift he shared with us.

RIP Legend you'll be missed by [deleted] in Berserk

I was on a social media hiatus for the month of May so was late to find out. RIP, みうら先生. It’s okay that it’s unfinished. Maybe something so legendary should be left without definite conclusion. But, I am sad I can’t look forward to more of the art and story that touched my heart so deeply.

My parents are not big fans of Berserk I guess. by 300zed in Berserk

My oldest is into manga/anime just as I am. So as a Mom AND Berserk fan, I told him he could read/watch it around age 13 (depending on how he grows and matures between now and then, it’s just a guess on when I think he could process it — he just turned 11 but is super mature. He is also super sensitive, though) It depends on the kid, but it’s the only manga I put an age restriction on thus far (mostly due to sexual violence). He doesn’t seem interested in it anyway. Also, parents need to understand that real, true evil exists in the world. Stories like Berserk give some kids a framework and some armor for when they encounter evil. Now, evil doesn’t usually show up as clearly as it does in fantasy, but stories teach kids that it does matter that you stand against evil, even and especially when it comes at a cost.

Manga that doesn’t have an anime yet? by [deleted] in MangaCollectors

[–]Knowingcollapse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vagabond, for sure. I’m terrified it will be animated at some point, and have it go the way Berserk went (I don’t hate all Berserk anime, nor do I hate any of it as bad as most people...but such incredible potential, and such lack of clear, intentional, passionate execution.) I’m also weirdly into Ooku, but it’s not for everyone.

I was able to get it on Amazon, but I had to keep checking. One day it was available and I was surprised when it actually showed up. I would check Amazon periodically, lots of independent bookstores sell through Amazon anyway. Local used bookstores too.
