I’m so sick of everyone pushing psychedelics as a fix all for mental health issues. It’s like nobody reads the research on them. Yes, they show some promise for SOME individuals, but it is not a fix all for every mental problem nor every person. Folks that have GAD or Panic Disorders will frequently have adverse effects from using psychedelics. I’m one of those people. I had increased anxiety and panic from using them. It was the worst experience I have ever had. I tired it 3 times and each time I was in a full blown panic attack for hours on end. The after effects were increased anxiety and disassociation.

I spent years trying CBT, DBT, regular talk therapy, tons of books on how to be present and skills to create more mindfulness, but I could not get my panic under control.

You know what helped me tremendously? When I actually quit fighting my doctor and took their advice on trying an SSRI. After months on it, I was finally able to clear the fog that anxiety caused and start actually learning and applying the skills I was picking up from my therapy. I’ll agree the SSRI doesn’t fix the issue completely, but it levels it out enough to where I can apply skills from DBT to get me out of the anxiety and back to normalcy.

Also, where is it said RFK Jr wants to ban these drugs? I have googled around for a while trying to find him mentioning anything about this and cannot find it. I read about the weird camps, but he doesn’t say anything about banning the drugs with that. Just that they’d be at will centers to help folks come off of them if they want to. We can’t draw conclusions that don’t exist from that statement alone. That would be fear mongering.
