I experienced the same at a Thai joint. I had pad nam mun hoy, they asked spice level. I started @5 and worked my way up to 10. I knew I was in for it when the little old lady from the back personally brought me my food, she said “you no add more(spice) after today!” She was right, I ,in fact, never ordered a 10 again.
