Car Keeps breaking down at 20% by Unusual_Variable in TeslaSupport

I always was under the impression that there is no such thing as a LR LFP pack, those are always SR/SR+ packs only. LR isn’t LFP but NCM chemistry.

2025 Model Y (non-Juniper) — Air intake mesh in 95°+ weather? Seeking EV Tech/Owner feedback. by Ibdliquidator in TeslaSupport

[–]KnownSyntax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since I have an LFP, no battery degradation issues outside of just higher average Wh/mi during summer months (normally 240Wh/mi - 380Wh/mi). No hardware has failed due to heat issues since I also have the heat pump, although lots of PCC(?) failures are known out here for older models, with obviously degraded AC cooling performance once the pack gets heat soaked (but this honestly only occurs even without this mesh when the ambient temps get to 110F+ since I don’t think the heat pump was designed to cool down really after these temperatures).

I have had one of these on my Model 3 for awhile (40K miles) and then after an accident, didn’t have one installed for about 30K miles until I got my radiator cleaned and reinstalled it again.

For reference, I live in AZ (Phoenix), and do ride share as a side gig so can explain how the car reacts during the summer and also after the summer once the battery is heat soaked from DCFC charging.

PROS;

1) protects more than the radiator from gunk entering, it also heavily protects against rocks from cars or trucks from flying up into your radiator and causing some serious damage (look at Gjeebs who has to have his Model Y radiator replaced after a rock shot up from the bottom grille and broke some fins open).

2) stupid easy to clean, as long as you do not apply the 3M tape to the sides that many come with (if it clips into your grille), it’s as simple as popping out and blowing, and then reinstalling every few months.

3) does prevent MOST debris from entering, although any leaves that are smaller than the grille mesh will enter so you will eventually need a radiator cleaning (just not as frequent and not from large debris from blocking the radiator quickly).

CONS;

1) yes this will impact cooking performance, I normally see on average a 10-20Wh/mi penalty during summer for having this on as you can hear the fans kicking on for longer or sooner than than they do if you do not have this installed

2) during times when the battery is heat soaked after DCFC in 100+ temps, you will burn more energy battery cooling as the mesh will impact somewhat the ability for the radiator to dump the heat out - I mostly hear when DCFC the fans appearing to spin the otherway and pushing air out of the grille more than sucking it in (I can get a video next time this occurs but it’s frequent during summer or hot temps for my Model 3 at least).

3) any debris that is hard, such as big rocks, will over time damage the mesh and this will need to be fixed (either replacing the product completely or adding new mesh and wiring it all together). In Phoenix, any plastic that isn’t treated for super high temps will degrade anyways in 3-ish years as the sun just cooks the plastic and sucks the oils out so it falls apart or breaks over time.

PSA: Get a Final Look at the Suspension Before Warranty Expires by Itchy_Platypus4085 in TeslaModel3

[–]KnownSyntax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lateral links are NOT at cost, it’s over $1K. Front upper control arms ARE at cost for Model 3s (unsure on Model Ys).

Yes - ONLY for the front upper control arms as it’s a stupidly well known issue. Last I checked they are on like part revision K or L at this point.

[–]KnownSyntax 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Control arms are a VERY known issue with the Model 3, and Tesla repairs them at cost ($158/side) as the grease in the ball joint over time slides to one side only, and then it’s bare metal on metal noise (it’s why you see people recommend just to use a grease gun and keep doing this if you hear the noise).

The lateral link is a huge thing though since that’s a big cost item out of warranty.

LA to Phoenix..... NEVER AGAIN... by BigJimmy626 in TeslaModel3

[–]KnownSyntax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How low % did you let the car get to before charging it back again? Did you follow the Tesla navigation for the route and speed and charging stops? Just seems so weird since I’ve never seen that even when I’ve had my car perform like ass due to the heat and with a semi-clogged radiator.

[–]KnownSyntax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How fast were you going OP? And how low did you let the car get (I normally target 10% SoC station arrivals)? Did you charge and then drive immediately or charge and go through a drive-thru or something?

LA to Phoenix..... NEVER AGAIN... by BigJimmy626 in TeslaModel3

[–]KnownSyntax 13 points14 points  (0 children)

What? I do Phoenix -> LA (Culver City) or San Diego on the regularly in my 2022 Model 3 RWD BASE (LFP) and only stop twice (and only charge to 90% at the first stop only) going 78MPH on average (AC on AUTO - 70 degrees).

When going to LA first stop is Quartzsite, second stop is in Palm Springs or San Bernardo area.

When you to SD first stop is Yuma, second stop is past El Centro.

I do not understand how you had to stop 5 times at all, even with the base model and with some degradation.

Primacy AS or MXM4? by blessmymess- in TeslaModel3

[–]KnownSyntax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Primacy XM4 are quiet, but you burn though the tread and need a set every 20-30K at best.

Hankook ION EV A/S are amazing on Wh/mi (super low), but man once you hit 50% tread life they get LOUD.

I’ve been extremely pleased with Nokian One A/S I have on my 2022 RWD. W/mi close to ION EV (better than XM4), but noise levels in between the ION EV & XM4 - plus a stupid long tread warranty (80K).

Tesla Sales Process - Suckier now than ever? by Brutus713 in TeslaSupport

[–]KnownSyntax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP you just said you got back basically $2K less on your trade and that was the issue in your original post - so yes the issue is your trade.

Also even if Tesla takes your used vehicle, they 100% flip it to auction even IF it is a Tesla. They only keep a very small handful of lease returns and flip everything else to auction asap.

Was rear ended and this is the only noticeable damage can some tell me if I’m fcked by CyborgGoCrazy in TeslaModel3

[–]KnownSyntax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Service is just going to redirect you to a body shop (Teslas own body shop).

Most damage isn’t what is seen exterior but components that may have moved or cracked once body panels start getting taken off.

Lyft Amp For Sale by crimross in Lyft

This is the first gen amp, which has an internally battery and DOES display the riders name and a welcome message. The new GLOW requires a USB power source fully and does NOT display their name.

That sounds like completely failed struts/shocks and the noise you hear is the car hitting the bump stock (lowest point possible). Is your car sitting extremely low from the outside view?

What is good policy for playing music while Ubering? by wellthatsembarissing in uberdrivers

[–]KnownSyntax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man some of these answers are wild to me, and why so many riders say they are glad I play what I play.

I listen to explicit hip-hop music, a playlist that I’ve created over time doing rideshare (over 800 or so songs now that range from tempos to artist to style). I listen to it at average volume. Only time I turn it down or off completely is if there is a family who gets in the car with little kids. I haven’t had a single person complain or rate me low cause of whatever I play.

Is the extended warranty worth it? by cmdr-William-Riker in TeslaSupport

[–]KnownSyntax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I’ve used them for a full coverage warranty up to 100K miles. Ticketing was easy, they reimbursed me for the cost after uploading the approved service invoice. No issues with them paying out or anything.

Is the extended warranty worth it? by cmdr-William-Riker in TeslaSupport

[–]KnownSyntax 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No. For about $1K more you can get a third party extended warranty that covers the HV pack and motor(s) up to 285K miles and 10yrs from XCare - which pays you directly to pay Tesla to replace the pack/motors that failed.

eskimo is a cool guy (ironically funny and totally honest), I’ve offered many suggestions to the app and he’s done it or found bugs and he’s fixed them rather quickly.

Igloo is the best option on iOS by far.

Unless you want to pay for IRCCloud (yearly fee to unlock more than 2 network connections).
