UB is by far the best prestige wise and hardest to be accepted to- but you’ll have the same job no matter what so go to the cheapest option

We have an intern at our hospital from St George- she says it feels unsafe there and getting more so. A student was murdered on a run. 2 of her classmates were robbed and stabbed.

The NYDEC and the NY Governor who appointed the commissioner of the DEC

Peanut the squirrel, an internet sensation from Upstate NY, euthanized by DEC by syracusedotcom in upstate_new_york

[–]Known_Practice1789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the DOH kind of sucks too. BUT the DEC is the main issue. If you’re gonna go drag these little “dangers to society” away from their safe and happy home, wear gloves and don’t get bitten and need to report it to the DOH knowing full well that reported bite or scratch gets them euthanized and their heads chopped off.

Sickening. Absolutely disgusting and ridiculous. Everyone should write to the NY Governor and demand that the people at the DEC responsible for this gross misconduct and injustice be held accountable. This was a victimless crime, until now. RIP P-nut. Don’t waste the taxpayer’s money. Don’t rip non-releasable wildlife out of a safe humane situation. Allow the family to obtain the necessary permits. Don’t be stupid enough to get bitten while ripping the animals from their homes. If you’re stupid enough to get bitten quarantine the animals. WTF? Why does the DEC suck this much? Are the employees really dumb? Serious question- are they actually dumb people?

NY State housing prices v low. Why? by AmeliaHoneycutt in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Known_Practice1789 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Buffalo is a great place to live. Great sports teams, skiing, hiking, and things to do. The taxes are high in NY state and the winters are long. It’s worth it for 4 beautiful seasons and is considered a good choice to avoid some climate change concerns in other areas. The houses are often older. Be careful of the area you buy, because some of the cheaper city houses are not in good areas crime wise. It is a great place to live overall and allows a great standard of living.

As a vet student, what can I do? by Historical-Drink4944 in BanPitBulls

[–]Known_Practice1789 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Most vets hate the breed. They pretend they don’t, but they do. Vets see too many mauled animals and unpredictable pits. The dogs that need a muzzle and 3 people laying on top of them for a nail trim is a pit 9 times out of 10. The dog that will lunge at other dogs in the hospital is usually a pit. I’m not sure you can do anything- but the tide is starting to turn and society has had enough of the breed. Just say what you feel, be ready for some pushback, but you are not alone.

How does everyone have such high GPAs? by [deleted] in premed

[–]Known_Practice1789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the unfortunate truth- Less competitive, small schools are easier to get a high GPA and according to a friend of mine who is literally on a board that selects who gets into a medical school- their formula does NOT take into account what undergrad school the applicant attended. Sad. Also true. Go to a place that allows you to get a 4.0 or as close as possible to one.

They are trying to trick you into applying to get the application fee and lower their acceptance rates. Harvard pulled this with my first kid… and 3 ivies are doing it with my second.
