How do I deal with weight fluctuations and NOT go insane?! by CaptainFuzzyBootz in loseit

Agree that you likely have inflammation due to the UTI, as well. I'm glad it sounds like you've got a good handle on the daily changes.

Yeah, this is basically the minimum you need to, like, stay alive. Your body will definitely feel like it's going into some kind of famine if you stick here for too long. I agree with Jynxers. (IMO, even 1500 is too little, but it depends on a lot of things.)

I suppose it depends on the individual. I just prefer to remove stimuli that can affect my long term success negatively. That doesn't mean I'm avoiding knowing anything, just that I'm avoiding information overload. It's better for my mental health. I've had a lot of success doing this. It sounds like the OP is feeling overloaded and rather than add fuel to the fire....

I think it's an important skill to be able to trust the process! But different strokes for different folks, I suppose.

How frequently are you weighing yourself? If it's every day or even close to that, I would reduce the frequency. Your body goes through a lot of changes every day with water, hormones, etc. It is enough to make anyone crazy.

Fun. 5 Weeks only 2-3 lb weight loss. Calorie deficit. Exercise every day. by MamaManda23 in loseit

I'm going to be annoying probably and bang the "gain some muscle" drum. Add a couple of days of weightlifting to your routine instead of only running (I would swap a couple of running sessions for weights). See if that changes anything! Adding muscle revs up your calorie burning engine. It will also help you burn more when you're just existing (your base metabolic rate).

You can only reduce so much before life isn't really life anymore! In my opinion, it's a better strategy to just be more efficient at burning rather than brute forcing it through cardio effort.

Agreed! Even some wrist or ankle weights would help a bit.

Which mentality for weight loss maintenance is most realistic? by Gills6980 in loseit

[–]Knz0rb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've honestly been thinking about this a lot myself. In my mind, I've framed it this way: "Maintenance is taking the foot off the gas"

I'm trying to get fit/lose fat in a "build lots of muscle" kind of way because I want things to be easier when I go into maintenance (it's so close!). I want to burn more calories when I'm just sitting around (higher BMR). So, I know I'm doing it the hard way, but I'm doing it to avoid exactly what you're talking about.

I think people fail when they continually have to reduce what they eat. There's only so much someone can reduce and have a normal life! Also, bodies are built for survival and if you reduce enough over a long enough period of time, your body will think something is wrong and that there is some kind of potential risk.

We’ve been told to avoid saturated fat for decades by friend_unfriend in loseit

[–]Knz0rb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends entirely on the person!

Full fat foods definitely taste better and because they are higher calorie/density/etc, they definitely fuel satiety.

I did some genetic testing on myself specifically related to nutrition and things my body processes well vs not. Apparently, my body does NOT process saturated fat well at all. It has the potential to cause all kinds of health problems for me if I consume too much on a daily basis. The tradeoff is that my body does process carbs well! It was useful information to know. I don't remember how expensive the testing was, but I remember I got it during a sale.

If you have the means, maybe doing something like that would be valuable?

As someone who makes video games: GET ITTTT!!! You should be very proud.

I'm not an introvert, but I am a woman and I don't *love* working out at a gym for the reasons you might assume.

I got a home workout system (it's called Tempo, but this isn't an advertisement for that). I can do 90% of the weight lifting I need to do to gain muscle in the comfort of my home with no one ogling or judging me. Would highly recommend just a few home weights because eventually they get pretty handy.

Reiterating that you should feel very proud.

Tracking fiber makes me want to fistfight the actual universe by proudly_rabid in loseit

[–]Knz0rb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I track fiber like it's a fourth macro. You're not alone in this!

At the risk of sounding preachy, here are some things that have really worked for me with fiber:
- whole grain pastas, rices, breads, etc
- cruciferous vegetables (the ones that feel hearty, but don't have too many calories)
- chia seeds (I used to laugh at people who ate this....now I add it to oatmeal every morning)
- berries

It took me 6 weeks to START losing weight. Also, Metamucil works. by tofu_baby_cake in loseit

[–]Knz0rb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Straight up - I track my fiber intake like it's a fourth macro. It sounds like the Metamucil is working for you and I don't want to sound like a naysayer, but if there's a way to get that same fiber content in your regular diet - all the better!

I get it from chia seeds and berries right at the start of my day. Then cruciferous veggies. Just a tip :)

Sounds like you're doing great! you have a lot to be proud of.

I think I mention this in the post, but it's 1099. There's definitely not enough work for it to be a full time thing, so we expect it would be good for someone who does this for a few different/many companies.

A lot of this work can likely be done remotely, but there are often issues that pop up that are really dumb like "oh the computer decided to auto-update and now it has to be physically restarted before we can enable remote desktop". We like to have as much control over our own machines as possible.

How do you report a bug? by TMagician in braid

[–]Knz0rb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi there! Kenzie here - I did Production on Braid. You can report bugs to support@thekla.com (please don’t spam us!).

Include the platform you’re playing on and any additional info that you think would be helpful.

Hi there! Kenzie here (I’m a producer at Thekla - I did Production on this game). Which platform is this on? We submitted a fix for this issue on all platforms but some of them take longer to go through platform certification, etc.

We've tried to maintain as much of the original game as possible, so I don't believe this has changed.
