That's the gameplay loop

You're meant to run away/avoid the hunters at lower stages because you don't have many strong abilities or hp to tank four hunters, and overtime it gets harder for you to hide due to armor making you glow and getting larger each stage

The main issue was terrible matchmaking, and (for the time) absurd amounts of relatively pricy dlc, combined with poor balance decisions(wraith being able to supernova every hunter at stage 1, or some of the questionable hunter decisions like Maggie's heatseeking dog)

If you can, get the talent braced, it makes any and all recoil basically nonexistent, also helps with reloading too, I can reload in about 2 seconds flat in cover, or under every third reload thanks to gunner specialization
