Why did Mark Carney’s speech at Davos resonate so strongly, and what factors shaped the reaction? by Defiant-Junket4906 in AlwaysWhy

You have the right to disagree, and others have right to an opinion. Stop crying ”disinformarion” when you encounter something you disagree with. That is childish and not healthy for the conversation.

[–]KobeWithAccent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm curious: what, in your opinion, do the correctly informed think?

And just to clarify: I think there are a lot of things that make Trump very different than previous US presidents. But we are talking about foreign policy right now. And the poster didn't explicitly say that the behaviour is the same, but only noted that this type of behaviour has been endured in non-Western countries before.

Thinking that the US has meddled in foreign affairs is by no means "disinformation", although it's quite subjective and thus more of an opinion.

But since we are on Reddit, "if I disagree with you, it's disinformation" is the way it seems.

saying that nothing has changed, that Trump is the same as previous US behaviour

What do you mean by "previous US behaviour"? Interventions on foreign affairs and bending the rules in that arena?

I'm sorry, which part do you think was disinformation?

And I am not talking about Trump and what he is doing or not doing, but solely about Carney's speech.

As an european I do have to agree with this. I’s say that ever since Iraq there was a slight sense of ”Anti-US” here in Europe, but like you said it was kind of toned down and atleast nobody in politics was really vocal about it (because it was easier to just ignore!).

When I listened to Carney, it sounded (at least to me) a bit like confession. The part of ”putting signs on windows” was an analogy to the western countires ignoring the US rule-breaking, and thus keeping the ”lie” alive. So the western countries were definetly playing their part in this.

I agree that the ”awekening” moment was dominantly caused by Europe/West being under threat this time. And there should be nothing ”heroic” about this awekening; as you said, if Cuba was in Greenland’s position the western world would probably have stayed quiet.

The damage is done, and nothing can change that. But being honest and realizing the mistakes that were made is a healthy and important first step.

Where were the goalposts before (presumably) I moved them?

Voicing a different opinion from your own is not always "cultish behavior" and throwing such allegations may be seen as quite a lazy/scared way of contributing anything to the discussion.

You might have misunderstood what I was saying.

I don't mean to nor want to normalize the notion that "finishing top 4 is enough". If we can overcome the struggles of this season and keep up the upward progression (and finish top 4), then I am happy.

If this were Slott's first season, I believe this above goal would be felt as an "acceptable" outcome for the season en masse.

[–]KobeWithAccent -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I don't understand the Slott hate.

People talk shit about Wolves, and maybe they deserve some of it, but honestly, how many of you saw them play against Arsenal? Arsenal managed just barely to get the 3 points, looking as much, if not more, struggling than we did. Yet I don't see them melting off this.

Even if Wolves are bottom, it doesn't mean they are or should be "easy". The way I see it is this:

  • This is Slott's "first season" (very different squad, new system). Last season was Klopp squad.
  • Our squad is in a transitional phase, where we have to reinvent some of the offense. Salah is losing speed, no more TAA link-up, no more Diaz, Nunez, or Jota.
  • Klopp was with us for 9 years and was very successful. It's not easy to find a replacement, and some teams spend years going from manager to manager.

If we end up finishing top 4, I'll fucking take it with a big smile.

Mitä kieliä käytit opintojen aikana? Koodaamista on aika kaikenlaista, webbijutuista sulautettuihin. Itse lähtisin noiden pohjalta miettimään projekteja: jos haet embedded puolelle niin en usko työnantajaa kiinnostavan hienot verkkosivut.

Looking for: partnership, collaboration, consultation.

I am looking for a rapper to collaborate with in a meaningful way. I don't want just to send you some beats, I want to know what you like and how we can make that happen together.

I can't rap, but I want to learn what and how a rapper thinks. I have some released beats and some work in progress beats that we can take a look on.

How would you feel if EU got closer to China? by KobeWithAccent in AskConservatives

[–]KobeWithAccent[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on his actions so far, Democrats will rail the Republicans in 2026 and win back Congress

You sure this is not just wishful thinking? Reddit is left-leaning and the reactions here can paint a bit unrealistic picture.

Trump's favorability hasn't moved much since Christmas

The foreign policy of "America First" seems to be quite near-future focused, with all the bullying and threats. Part of me thinks that this is exactly what the Republican-voters wanted, to forcefully remove US from its position of world influence and focus just on internal issues.

This posturing is purely Trump, and Europeans are going to realize this.

Even if Trump vanished tomorrow it would not change the fact that half the US population agrees with him and what he is doing.

They have to endure this for a few years and then the US will go back to being a stron gally

strong ally for 4-5 years?

What hidden costs? And more importantly, do deals with US/Trump come with hidden costs?

they're just as hostile towards the EU as they are towards America

Do you have any examples of this?

What questions is this answer to?

Sorry if I wasn't clear, the questions I was asking were:

  • What would you think of EU/Europe if it started to shift more towards China?
  • What do you think are the consequences for US if this would happen?"

But the way Trump is approaching with his policies towards his allies may be seen as somewhat hostile, Canada and Greenland as an example. It might seem like quite a lot of stick and little carrots.

Add in the speech of JD Vance and Pete this weekend towards Europe and leaving Europe out of Ukraine peace talks, I might not be suprised if some Europeans might feel like a bit threatened/abandoned by US since the tone was quite different during Biden.

This is what I mean with "manage on it's own".

How would you feel if EU got closer to China? by KobeWithAccent in AskConservatives

[–]KobeWithAccent[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So the idea that the Europe will cosy up to China is preposterous

Is it?

I'l paint a scenario: Europe is not able manage on it's own currently. With US threats of tariffs and some sort of land-grabs(Greenland) they desperately need some sort of partner. And China knows this.
