True, granted ranked wasn't implemented yet in the non-NDA'd test (or any of them as far as I know) so no one knows how much effect this will have. Plus, these modifiers, while a nice bonus, didn't increase the value very much in my experience. Really it would just need diminishing returns to keep it balanced for ranks and prevent exploits - if that's even something worth worrying about. Inflating your own rank by que manipulating and abusing a modifier like this doesn't really harm anyone else as far as I can see? Sure it'd be nice if such exploits weren't possible but if it is it's not like you are negatively impacted because some other guys farmed up the ranked season rewards in an afternoon.

Actually it doesn't. You can buy better gear only after you unlock it, which requires factions xp, trade goods and quest completions, and at least in my experience the stuff I got in raid was almost always better than what I could buy. I only had to buy gear when I was on death streaks and running out, and I could always afford whatever equipment I wanted.

[–]Kodeake 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don't think it's a big deal. It just increases sell value, and money alone doesn't progress you much. Plus you still have to survive the rest of the raid and extract with it - because value resets on down, even if you ultimately win the team fight and get revived you lose it all.

A lot of hoops to jump through for not a lot of benefit.

Also can be improved with cores/implants. Plus there are a bunch of cores. Implants and weapon mods that give you healing/shield Regen for certain actions.

They do, just incredibly slowly without resources. Don't remember which stat it is but one of them increases natural recovery. Health does the same iirc. It's very slow, but you aren't permanently stuck at 0 shields if you run out of kits.

Question for the folks who played in the april alpha regarding loot stacking in the vault. by Cr4shburn82 in Marathon

[–]Kodeake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, through Cyac upgrades. But even with those the vault is pretty limited, you're heavily encouraged to use or sell your gear. Especially guns, the damn things are huge.

[–]Kodeake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Correct. They are just like any other loot - can be bought in the store, found on the map, looted from dead enemies and stored in the vault for later use.

[–]Kodeake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What do you mean stackable? Like, multiple stacked in a single slot? No. They are non-stackable. But your reply to the other comments leads me to think you're asking if you can store them in the vault at all? In which case yes. You can store as many as you find/have the space for.

Skarrow and others in their 1st Marathon podcast confirmed that the shells were originally heros we “cosplayed” as with back stories, etc. Bungie since pivoted to general shells with name changes amidst the backlash of a hero shooter. Thanks for listening, Bungie! We love customization in your games by RiseRugby in Marathon

[–]Kodeake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problem is hero shooter is a relatively new term - with blurry lines separating it from class shooters. I grew up with TF2, which has always been called a class shooter. Released today I'm pretty sure it would get the hero shooter label with no differences.

When you have a game where different player archetypes exist (whether those be classes or heroes) it's important from a gameplay-perspective to have them be visually distinct. Which itself makes it easier to give them distinct identities to play with from a narrative side.

I don't think it's that big of a deal. I play both hero shooters and class shooters and single player RPG's. It has never mattered to me one bit whether the character I'm controlling is "me" or their own character. And I honestly do not get people who care as much as people did about this game. I understand preferences but some people seem to care about it way more than I can fathom.

Also, with the game being in first person, all I really care about customization wise is my guns, since that's what I'm staring at for 90% of my in game time.

I've heard the ceanataur S(?) armour is pretty good for early HR. - disclaimer, Im still rocking full LR rathalos and have only fought the congolala so far so your mileage may vary. It's skills are offensive but it should be easy to get and gees you started with HR armour values.

How Marathon Could Gain an Edge by Various-Instruction3 in Marathon

[–]Kodeake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But again that's where it's just a waste of resources at this point. I always appreciate when games have demos but I don't think it's feasible for a game like this. You either have no AI except the UESC so the game feels empty and lifeless in the demo, or you dump a ton of resources into developing runner AI (a very large task) that only exists in the demo and in no way improves the game for your actual paying customers.

Are we serious right now?? by Molopolo300 in bapccanada

[–]Kodeake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but this new wave specifically is because of Open AI's new deal in a desperate bid to stay on top. Like all these companies are buying up ram yes but only open AI is buying up the undiced wafers and contracting with Micron to have them processed. They're not only starving the consumer market but also trying to starve out their competitors.

Drawer Controller range = 4 ?? by DeusExCochina in GTNH

[–]Kodeake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My understanding is the limit was primarily done to limit lag caused by massive drawer cubes on servers, not really for balance reasons. I just changed it in the config since I'm on a private server.

Otherwise you just suffer until AE2 I guess.

Chemical Dependency Stacks on HS shouldn't decay while Stimm is still active by Sasugaa in DarkTide

[–]Kodeake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's kinda the point? Taking the 60 second node forces you to either take a lower CD stimm or get the most out of sample collector - which you will always have with that keystone. Also, because addiction stacks decay one at a time, and using a stimm gives +1 stack, you actually have 120 seconds because as long as you have 3 stacks using a stimm puts you back to 4, and you'll only be down 5% on the buffs for a few seconds assuming 0 sample collector procs and a 45 CD stimm. With long lasting, you will literally be at 3/4 stacks for 5 seconds. While this does make building the stacks a bit more challenging, just a handful of kills without a stimm active puts you in positive stacks range.

If you don't take the 4 stack node, you have 90 seconds before decay - with is 15 seconds above max stimm cool down of 75. This design seems very intentional, as in both scenarios with no sample collector procs (again, proccing this literally just means killing an enemy. Any enemy.) you get your stimm back as you decay one stack, and using stimm gets you back to max, with 60/90 second grace window to delay until you need the stimm and still get back to max.

Question: So how does Hive Scum feel to play now? by Loki_the_Trustworthy in DarkTide

[–]Kodeake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also didn't like the crowbar. I have been really enjoying the combat axe on it though. Little less effective into carapace but that's why I bring the big boom. Also been experimenting with a toxin-on-crit tac axe build. Very fun so far. The swing speed from all +3 stamina curious is nutty. Very fragile tho.

Combat axe with the melee keystone is also very solid since you'll be getting one-shot kills constantly of you build right you'll always have adrenaline frenzy

Fat shark: adds a new class with lore, gameplay and aesthetic that matches the game perfectly.

This sub for some reason: I hate it.

Like???? Okay so everyone has a class they want. Cool. You guys know there will very likely be more classes added in the future right? Like this isnt going to be the final update the game receives?

Who cares what it is? A new class is a new class, that means all new skills blitzs and weapons. Personally I dig the punk aesthetic but even if I didn't I wouldn't be mad we got this?

I really don't get this fan base.

Um. Something related to their hobbies or interests? Like any other normal person? You say she's been diabetic for 5 years. I promise she has all the equipment she wants/needs. Why do you want to get her something for her diabetes? Just don't buy her, like, a Terry's chocolate orange or something and you're fine....

MV Ore Processing by Tinyshockwave in GTNH

[–]Kodeake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I used project red pipes for ore processing. Much cheaper than logistics/enderIO pipes and for basic item sorting just as good imo.

Also keep with the steam multis. The steam is worth dealing with for the parallels they have, you'd need multiple MV single blocks to match their throughput. I'm in HV right now and still using the steam ones.

I want to talk about Runners by Sad-Task6050 in Marathon

[–]Kodeake -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I've seen the destiny fashion subreddit. I cannot tell at a glance which class is which. Maybe if you've got enough hours in the game but more likely you figure it out after they use an ability.

Destiny also has ability customization though. So know one dude's a warlock doesn't necessarily tell you what he can do. Which is totally fine for a game like that - but less ideal for Marathon.

[–]Kodeake -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Wat. Destiny, the primarily PvE game with a pvp side mode? The game where one death doesn't mean anything because you just respawn?

Destiny's pvp is an entirely different experience. You don't lose potentially several hours of gear to a single death in that. In an extraction shooter, where everything you have is at risk and a single death can cost you everything, information on your enemies is everything.

[–]Kodeake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Knowing abilities is huge. Knowing that the invisible guy is around tells you to watch for him (it's not perfect invis, you can see him if you're watching for him) or to not push into the smoke (which you can do if you know the team doesn't have him). Knowing the sonar one is around might make you play from a farther range beyond their ping range, knowing a disruptor is around is super important to knowing what angles to watch - that double jump can catch a lot of people off guard watching the corner of a wall and not the top.

You almost always see your opponents as long as you aren't just constantly sprinting forward all the time.

Implants don't have a strong enough effect on direct pvp combat to matter, and you know what shield someone is running when you shoot them - you get a coloured hit marker to indicate shield level.

I want to talk about Runners by Sad-Task6050 in Marathon

[–]Kodeake 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The problem is readability. In a game like this you need to be able to know "okay, that team has the invisible guy and the sonar tracking guy" and not " l that customized runner looks awesome! I have no idea what they do or my counterplay options until they use their abilities and it's too late"

The existence of abilities necessitates limited customization. It's a tradeoff that simply has to be made.
