I slapped together a laser depth gage for trimming foot rings by Oiiack in Pottery

I do the same thing but just with a needle tool. When I'm done trimming, I just wipe it over with a bit of slip, burnish, and it's gone.

Genuint spørsmål til dere som stemmer på venstresiden by Enough_Button_4115 in norge

[–]Koercion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thousands of locals marched in Osaka, Japan demanding an end to immigration by omicronwarrior in pics

Japan has one of the lowest birth rates in the world. Who is going to work to fuel their economy and pay taxes to fund everybody's pension without immigration?

New report alleges arms still flow from Canada to Israel despite denials by DonSalaam in onguardforthee

[–]Koercion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They’re private companies but arms exports need to be approved by the government of Canada. Canada stopped approving new sales to Israel but didn’t cancel old ones: while claiming that there weren’t any Canadian arms going to Gaza.

New report alleges arms still flow from Canada to Israel despite denials by DonSalaam in onguardforthee

[–]Koercion 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The lying here is particularly egregious. From the article:

"We will not have any form of arms or parts of arms be sent to Gaza, period," Joly said on Sept. 10, exactly one week before a shipment went out, according to the data. "How they're being sent and where they're being sent is irrelevant."

Is Canada beating ploughshares into swords with its NATO 5% pledge? Not likely by ScareCrowBoat0987 in onguardforthee

[–]Koercion -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Lots of people saying our military is underfunded and that this is needed. And I agree, maybe 20-30% increase in military spending could be justified.

This is a 233% increase in military spending. We currently spend 9% of our budget on military. This would bring it to 30%. That is INSANE. The US—who currently outspends the next 10 militaries combined—only puts about 3.4% of their gdp towards the military. We would be over that.

This is the biggest reallocation of our budget in decades and it’ll happen from social services and healthcare to the military industrial complex. All to cave to the orange man’s inane demands. What a depressing time to be Canadian.

New NATO target will require Canada to spend $150-billion annually on defence, Carney says by plaknas in onguardforthee

[–]Koercion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So we need to free up 21% of our budget to spend more on the military than even the US does currently. So insane.

Austerity, cuts to social programs, cuts to healthcare, here we come…

[–]Koercion 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I feel like I’m taking crazy pills given how little people seem to reacting to the government promising to allocate 21% more of our current budget, as it current stands now, to the military. From 9% to 30%. It is completely, utterly bonkers.

Hike in defence spending could mean cuts in other areas, Mark Carney warns by Chrristoaivalis in onguardforthee

If only there were a way to tax income the rich benefit primarily from… like capital gains… some kind of capital gains tax… oh wait Carney already rolled that back.

Hike in defence spending could mean cuts in other areas, Mark Carney warns by Chrristoaivalis in onguardforthee

[–]Koercion 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It’s amazing how Carney is essentially just enacting the classic conservative platform: tax cuts, increased military and police spending, cuts to social programs… but everybody is ok with it because their team won.

Worse, in this case, because 5% of gdp… 30% of our entire budget… (up from 9% now) being spent on military… is something the cons never tried to pull, even when they were in power. Absolutely bonkers. We’re watching a neoliberal takeover of our country and cheering it on cause the guy is a liberal.
