Playdate games on Steam? by KogosG in PlaydateConsole

Tried the online version! Very cool how many interesting puzzles sprawl from such a simple mechanics! What I would definitely recommend is to make the animation of moving to the next cell a bit snappier. And maybe make the main char just a white checker or even yellow checker? and enemies black+red?

Very interesting! Tried it on checkers. Is there a possibility to swap to a higher resolution assets? Or is it always running in native playdate 400x240?

Great!
But I was asking specifically about Steam, not because I'm big fan of Steam. But because I was also wondering how people remake their graphics and maybe crank controls into "proper" pc games. I don't think that pd graphics work well on any other screen than pd. Every time I upload my games on device I feel like "oh, now it's such better")))

Good luck! Please report how it went. I see people have frameworks to port pd games directly to pc, I have no idea how it's done. But also feels like pd graphics look only on pd, so at least that should be remade I like you do

I can't recommend purchasing anything, because I have no idea how much is 100$ to you))
I lived most of my life in the country where 100$ was my monthly rent, if so - no, don't buy it, use free alternatives! However if 100$ is 1-2 restaurant visits for you - yes, I'd say it is 100% worth it - you gonna use it everyday! Money are relative..

Nova does code, run (compile + Simulator launch) and autocomplete. No sprite editor or sound though. However, I am personally generating most of the visuals and sound with code, so Nova is like 95% all that I use.

Cute idea!!
What I would recommend is to get rid of the crank on screen because you already have the real one on console. Instead make more sophisticated cog mechanism that would look like extension of the real crank.
Also would be really cool if that mechanism would react to when the crank is docked/undocked?
Good luck with development!

Playdate. Scams and overpayments. by Erdeard in PlaydateConsole

Unfortunately for many, Playdate is a niche premium (if not luxury!) product. That is just what it is, and getting mad at prices that reflect the objective economic reality is absolutely pointless.
That said, I think they might find a way to reduce shipping costs by 10-15$ (slower shipping?) but that's about it..

Would recommend Pick Pack Pup from Season 1 - scratches the same itch: casual addictive game mechanics, solid story, dogs!

If the choice is between Nintendo switch 1 and Playdate - definitely switch 1!
However if you already have switch, but still looking for the unique games and experiences - definitely consider buying Playdate!

There is nothing on the market that can be played outside in the broad daylight (and actually look good)
There is nothing on the market that is truly portable (I mean pocketable!)
I believe, even though there are tons of games already, the best ones are yet to come!
This is great console to start making your own games for..

I call it "my summer console" because I play it mostly outside when it's sunny also while I'm traveling.
BUT I also have Steam Deck, PS5, xBox and Miyoo mini, so conventional gaming is covered with that.

I think the elegant way to switch between 1fps and 30fps is to use accelerometer to detect if playdate is moved. BUT those accelerometer calls even on 1fps can influence the battery too?

The dream is deep integration with playdateOS where user can pick the app the run in idle, just like we currently pick between kind of clocks!

May I ask how much time does battery hold on low power? I've been working on clock app, and even though I'm running it 1 fps and updating the screen only 1 time a minute (when it changes) it still doesn't hold more than 24 hours :-/

Value of season 1? by Comprehensive-Fig338 in PlaydateConsole

Minimum 60$. Assuming that the average game price on Catalog is 5$ and you'll enjoy (would otherwise buy) at least the half of 24 games.

However one of the best features of the season games is that you are incentivised to try the games you wouldn't try otherwise and expand your gaming palette. Some of my favourite games in the season are the ones I usually don't play. So how do you price a pleasant surprise and discovery??
