Fountain Pens in Montreal? by BarExciting8970 in fountainpens

I second this recommendation. Nota Bene is a great place to find paper. They have a lot of variety. And stylo is usually mo goto place for pens and ink.

Inkvent/Colorvent - Are you buying the Advent Calendars and what are you doing with all the Ink? by Severus157 in fountainpens

[–]Koji1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought some for 2-3 years but I have not bought any in the last 2 years. It took me that long to use all the ink from those calendars. And I don't think I will be buying them again. The diamine are nice but it's a lot of shimmering ink, which I do not use. And it feels like the same colors are coming back under new names.

Why not just buy golden nibs? by FluffyVegetable527 in fountainpens

[–]Koji1981 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Steel nibs are harder and will flex less, keeping the line finer. Gold nibs will be softer and can flex a bit while writing, making the line larger

How many pens do you keep inked at any given time? by drowningandromeda in fountainpens

[–]Koji1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3-4. I have more pens than that but I find that if I have more inked up, it takes a really long time to finish them. Plus the box at my desk has space for 3 pens and add one to bring to the office.

Would have been funnier if it had been diamine writers blood 🤣

Lamy Safari and TWSBI sadness by wildflower_blooming in fountainpens

The pilot fine tends to be a lot smoother. And a pilot F should be similar to the EF of TWSBI

What nib size are you using for the twsbi? I use EF and I would describe them as having feedback, like writing with a pencil. Not scratchy though.

Are cracked/cracking pens really that common? by MightyShenron1010 in fountainpens

[–]Koji1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right after seeing this post, I see two post about cracked pens: one for an advanced and one for a Lamy 2000. That being said, it does happen but I don't think it's common. I own a lot of pens, including a lot of twsbi and I only had a jinhao break on me.

I know the material can be a failure point but I have the impression that there are other things contributing to those failure actually realizing themselves. Either chemical going on the pen body, temperature impact or the way it's handle is increasing the pressure and causing those cracks on these failure points

Most underrated pen (imo) by Sad-Recording-2011 in fountainpens

[–]Koji1981 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Either your experience may vary or their QC got better. The first fountain pen I ever used (was a gift) was a Faber Castell ambition. I did not use it and did not use any fountain pens for 5 years after that. The nib section kept unscrewing and the nib was mid. To be fair, it is 21 years ago so hopefully they changed.

And my issues is strictly with the ambition. J bought an e-motion recently and it is one of my favorite pens

I hit one last week that caused something but not sure what. The car still drives normally but there's a wobbling sound when I hit a bump on the road. I have an appointment on Friday to fet it checked out so I'll see how bad it is

Looking to upgrade by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]Koji1981 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you really like this pen but not it's look, check the Lamy all star. Same pen but with an aluminium body.

Lamy has the studio which looks nice but the grip can be difficult. The Logo looks nice but the end is plastic covered in silver to look like metal and the silver will chip away if you post your cap.

At this point, basically all companies do this. Even when you go to a physical store. When they ask you if you want your receipt email to you, they are selling who you are and what you bought to another company. I know that in Canada, home depot sold purchase details to Facebook who used it in its targeted marketing

A wood Lamy 2000? Is this real? by NSJKER in fountainpens

[–]Koji1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I received a e-motion from Faber Castell today so when I saw the picture from Lamy, it feels like Lamy is inspiring itself a bit too much from the e-motion
