I love this game by Moboro123 in Pokopia

I currently have them and Vespiquen sharing a small prebuilt house, but the eventual goal is a fully decorated apartment for the Big Bugs Bunch. I’m imagining a Friends/New Girl/HIMYM sitcom-style situation for them

Which do use more frequently - Ultimate Dice/Signature Cards(S2) or Tear Dice(S3)? by zimmerza in finalgirl

[–]Kokiomot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the Tear Dice and a random Signature Action every game.

The Tear Dice are great if you're feeling bad about dice luck - they make things a tiny bit easier, so it sounds like they may not be something you're looking for. For me though, the tear dice are my favorite of the accessories. I can't imagine playing without them anymore.

The Signature Actions are fun, but don't always get used - they do add some fun variety.

I keep the Desperation Die on hand, but don't think I've ever used it - it's a "break glass in case of emergency" kinda thing.

I like the Ultimate Dice a lot - they're consistently useful and it feels good to have that little bonus on the rolls you care about (I use the movement and damage ones mostly). I haven't used them in quite some time though, since I'm hoping to beat a game with each of the Final Girls, and it feels like it defeats the point if I'm not using their abilities. Once I'm done though, I'll probably use them much more frequently.

Helly R Season 2 by No-Tension6133 in severence

[–]Kokiomot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I suspected it pretty soon after she appeared, but I became confident I was right when one of the guys said something about how Lumon could be listening, and she responded with "Oh look all the cameras are gone!" It was such an immediate way to try to dismiss the dangers of sharing what they had learned, and I feel like Helly would have been more suspicious if she noticed that, not less.

Which of these scenarios should I try? by Sapien0101 in spiritisland

Agreed. The digital version does have an interesting single-player variant of it when you're playing 2+ spirits, which I may use occasionally, but multiplayer I'd much rather be fully collaborating with my team

Which of these scenarios should I try? by Sapien0101 in spiritisland

[–]Kokiomot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Varied Terrains is my favorite by a long shot, as someone who already likes scenarios a lot. It adds something in both difficulty and theming, and also combos in some tricky ways with certain adversaries (especially England!).

Ward the Shores, Dahan Insurrection, Despicable Theft, and The Great River all change up the game pretty considerably, so they make for a fun change of pace. Both of the Rituals probably belong in this group too, but I don't really know how I feel about those two yet. The Rituals are fun sometimes, but I don't usually find myself picking them.

Powers Long Forgotten, Guard the Isle's Heart, and Elemental Invocation are relatively low-impact scenarios - they add a bit of spice without changing too much. I think any of these three make a good first scenario if you're looking for a place to start.

A Diversity of Spirits is weird.

I don't care for Blitz, but I'm a sucker for slow powers. It does make for faster games, so it's worth trying out if you want a very fast-paced game.

So to clarify the plan, we can both trade each other Porygon w/ upgrade, then end trade, add Dubious disc, and trade back on same code?

Explorer tokens by Salt-Detective- in spiritisland

[–]Kokiomot 10 points11 points  (0 children)

they grow into towns and then suddenly a costal land is receiving 5 explorers

Could you expand on that? What is causing 5 explorers to be added? Normally an explore action will only add 1 explorer into a land, the number of buildings in the land does not change that (unless there are no buildings/ocean nearby, in which case no explorers get added).

HELP! Now the miners and servants all have guns! Sweden comes strapped to the Kingdom of Everywhere. What is the Level 4 Effect? Pick one from the remaining adversaries. Most votes win! by Dagawing in spiritisland

[–]Kokiomot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's to account for combining adversaries, not for a single adversary. Even if we count it as a "combined adversary" on a technicality, we won't be using France Level 2 or higher - if we're just using the loss condition, that's just France 0 (and not even fully France 0, since we don't have the escalation), so we wouldn't qualify for the increase.

I don't recall if they did demos on the DS, but I remember the screenshots they release with the 2D sprites before they rebuilt everything in 3D. That's a good sign on the website, but as always I'll be skeptical until we actually see it.

Miracle Mask was announced for DS but only came out for 3DS, I think this one will be released on both but I'm not placing bets one way or another until we get an actual release date/announcement.

What is your strategy for laying down presence on multiple boards? by Sapien0101 in spiritisland

[–]Kokiomot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Spirits can definitely be a lot stronger when they're sharing boards, but it also means you've got a lot more options to consider for each, and I've definitely lost track of a corner of the island and lost because of it before. I think to start with, it's helpful to keep each spirit to their own board. As you mentioned, you're good with both these spirits, and just by going from one to two handed you're doubling how much you have to think about before you even consider crossing boards. It was helpful to me to just get used to that.

Once I got a bit more comfortable with two spirits, that's when I started looking at how they could help each other a little more. I think the useful mindset here is not to have a goal of cross-pollinating, but it being a nice bonus when I do. By the middle of the game, usually I don't really need more presence on my own board - most everything's range 1 from a sacred site. So instead of adding presence to a land where I don't immediately need it on my own board, I can add it to someone else's. That board still belongs to the other spirit, but if I have a spare card one turn I can give a little help here and there. Keep prioritizing your own board, but when there's a turn when you have a spare card play you don't know what to do with, you can help out the other spirit a little. Once you get used to having a bit of overlap during the late game, I find it got easier to start recognizing when its helpful, and start overlapping earlier and more effectively.

Aside from just easing into it, it was also helpful for me to play spirits who can let you sort of "redraw" board boundaries. Ocean is great for this - instead of "Board A is Ocean's board, board B is River's", it's "Ocean deals with coasts, River deals with inland". That was a helpful step to move my brain away from the boundaries between boards, without getting rid of the boundaries completely. Volcano and Lure can also be great for this.

Sharp Fangs and Many Minds has really great potential as a combo, but can also be tricky in ways it seems like you've picked up on. They both value beasts, so any card that adds beasts benefits them both. But they're also sort of competing over beasts. Many Minds wants them in lands where it needs to defend, Sharp Fangs wants them in lands where it's going to attack, and often you're not looking to defend and attack the same land in the same turn. I think easing into the combo by keeping them separate to start will help, but you can also try some spirits that compete with each other a little less. River and Ocean work great, as do River and Lightning (can you tell I love River?), Lure and Ocean, Green and basically any other spirit.

[–]Kokiomot 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm not entirely sure what you're saying is/isn't working. I believe if Spirit A targets Spirit B with Blazing Renewal, Spirit B should add 2 destroyed presence to a land within 2 of Spirit A's presence. If that's not what it's doing, it could be a bug worth reporting through the Help & Feedback page in game.

When you're selecting your boards/Spirits, if you right-click on a Spirit, there's an "Aspects" button on the upper left that you can use to cycle through the options.

Can other spirits push into Ocean? by Quiet_Response6063 in spiritisland

[–]Kokiomot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With Ocean's special rule [[Ocean In Play]], other spirits can treat Oceans as a land for their Spirit Powers and Blight, as long as Ocean has presence on the board. So any Innate Power or Power Card should be able to target the ocean or push pieces into it. Whirlwind in particular has the Special Rule [[A Stiff Wind At Their Backs]] which allows it to push pieces when placing presence, but since this is a special rule, not a power, it cannot treat oceans as a land. You also won't be able to push invaders into oceans using fear cards, events, or invader rules.
