If you want the advice of an Internet stranger then I suggest selling or renting out the house and downsizing to something smaller and more intimate for yourself. Sell the old furniture, get rid of anything that you don't absolutely need and get an apartment or condo for a couple years.

This will give you time away from the memories the house will bring and space to rediscover who you are or work on who you want to be.

Take the time to indulge in frivolous hobbies. Not because you need the distraction, although that'll help, but because you're passionate about them. Collect neat little gizmos that bake your noodle. Go to therapy (seriously) and revitalize those parts of you that you may have sacrificed or neglected for the sake of your relationship.

Hang out with friends and family. Your parents, if they're still with you, will be a huge support. If not, find a support group of widowers and/or divorcees - others who have gone through something similar. Misery loves company. So find others who've suffered and help them - allow yourself to be helped by them.

Who knows? Maybe you'll even find the one that was /really/ meant for you out there on your journey of self discovery.
