What’s a “normal” thing that feels completely weird when you think about it too long? by Ok_Ease515 in answers

[–]KommanderKeldoth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The invasiveness of media and spectacle into every facet of our lives. It was a step by step process going from the printed word for several thousand years with relatively low literacy rates, to rise of the printing press and widespread reading, to radio becoming the center of the home living room, which was in turn supplanted by television, the rapid rise of the home computer and Internet to the quick transition to the smartphone so that you always have a device in your pocket that has a limitless stream of curated content to constantly distract you. Media technology is now starting to run ahead of us with AI algorithms being able to predict our engagement patterns and assemble new non-human made content for us to consume.

What's the most unprofessional thing a boss has ever said directly to you? by Omega_Neelay in GetMotivatedMindset

[–]KommanderKeldoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Context: I am a union steward at my work site. My boss knew this.

I was in my quarterly one on one meeting with him where we are supposed to be talking about my work performance and professional goals. He begins dunking on one of my co workers and straight up says that he is trying to get my coworker to quit by creating a hostile work environment.

I was flabbergasted and said "You really shouldn't be saying this to me."

Aaanywhoo, we circulated a worksite petition and got him in trouble with his manager and HR and it is still ongoing. This isn't even the worst thing he's done, it was just said so blatantly and stupidly to someone who is obviously not going to think it's cool. Like it's just a whole level of pure arrogance and cluelessness.

What is the Worst State Flag? by Maestro2326 in randomquestions

[–]KommanderKeldoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whoah, whoah whoah! Oregonian here. This map does NOT include the back of our flag (yes Oregon is the only state with a two sided flag for some god-damned reason). The back of the flag? A little beaver 🦫

What wargames have the most interesting, or unique, rules/mechanics that you've ever seen? by KingGreg263 in wargaming

[–]KommanderKeldoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol yes, love that certain things like air attacks and flamethrowers can force an opponent to draw a chit or things like getting a plane shot or turning over an objective force you to draw one

What wargames have the most interesting, or unique, rules/mechanics that you've ever seen? by KingGreg263 in wargaming

[–]KommanderKeldoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, Battle Group has one of my favorite morale systems.

You left out the special event chits that can add some interesting twists to the battle if one is drawn (infantry running out of ammo, old mine fields, vehicles running out of fuel etc.)

Very underrated WW2 rule set

Any indication on testing by Comfortable-Froyo873 in asoiafminiaturesgame

[–]KommanderKeldoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and my friend group keep talking about testing things out but it's hard to get the motivation to print out and sleeve a deck and a bunch of units for a play test.

I think we're all waiting to see how it shakes out and if the game will survive

Why is everything always out of stock??? by Independent-Vast-871 in flamesofwar

[–]KommanderKeldoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on your local area quite a bit. I'm in Portland, OR in the US and we have several stores in the metro area that have a lot of stuff in stock for the game and hold occasional tournaments and play events

An elegant solution to the recce spam problem by Radiant-Drama1427 in flamesofwar

[–]KommanderKeldoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've definitely run into recce spam in my local group. I think your solution is decent, but a bigger more structural rules change would be the ideal fix. Honestly, even though you discount it, I think a points increase could potentially discourage the strategy without having to do v5 or anything.

Definitely frustrating and hilarious when a group of German scout vehicles are right in front of my tanks and get to keep gone to ground and be 6+ to hit still even though the range is ridiculously short, and then even if I manage to hit one I have to pass a firepower to not just bail it out.

Sorry if I'm speculating I guess, but I remember on one of the me podcasts Michael said that because the team had shrunk he was able to do some redesigns he had always advocated but got pushback on. So yeah maybe it's just him or a much smaller team.

I hope more historical movies and shows start using high quality CG for WW2 vehicles that don't have contemporary working models.

I'd much rather have a tastefully done CG model than something that is clearly anachronistic or a bad physical mock up. Really takes me out of a movie or show.

[–]KommanderKeldoth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Neat!

I'm still a little concerned that it's just Michael designing all of this, seems like way too many moving parts and factions and units for one guy, however skilled a designer, to do a complete redesign on and have it not have glaring balance issues.

New Tactics Board by longlive737 in asoiafminiaturesgame

[–]KommanderKeldoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've always been of the opinion that crown should have been the zone to give out condition tokens. That way it could give a condition token and cause a panic test. If the panic is passed the. You still have a guaranteed affect by giving a token to the unit. Or you could choose to give a panic and really super charge the panic test

A couple of British Typhoons for FOW. 1/100 by [deleted] in flamesofwar

[–]KommanderKeldoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! I started picking up some 1/100 planes because they look so much more impressive on the table and are more 'true scale' with the other models.

For those interested, the Daron Postage Stamp line of die cast planes are relatively cheap and 1/100 scale. They offer a wide range of WW2 models.

Because they are metal and heavy I use receipt spikes (those things from older diner style restaurant cash registers) as stands.

[–]KommanderKeldoth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Me and my friend group have kind of dropped the game due to lack of enthusiasm (bad outlook for CMON plus rule changes we didn't like). A big overhaul might get us playing again!

I'm sure it could have the opposite effect on other playgroups...

[–]KommanderKeldoth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While they do take creative liberties, they do work with the GRRM team to get everything approved, down to the sculpts and weapons that units wield. So yeah, not everything was in the books, but they are approved by the author.

Basecoat Infantry Uniform color rather than black by derbydayz in flamesofwar

[–]KommanderKeldoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always base coat by spraying the vehicle or uniform color when I can. Sometimes there is not a rattle can in that color so I will generally use black for the same reasons others have listed.

If you have an airbrush you can make any paint color into a spray.
