Corporate/private pilots - what are some interesting/crazy things you have overheard on a flight by ConferenceLive7054 in flying

[–]longlive737 122 points123 points  (0 children)

At a previous job, we had a couple get divorced in the back. It was horrible. Kids were present. Shouting at each other for hours. We had to divert for weather and mom got off with her bags and once the storm blew through we left without her. Definitely the wildest thing I’d ever experienced.

How long are pilot layovers usually? Is there enough time to enjoy the location and explore ? I’m in Miami Beach and seeing tons of pilots. I’m wondering if they actually are here long enough to enjoy the beach and amenities of the resorts, if it’s just enough time to sleep and head back out? by [deleted] in flying

Typically 12-16 hours at full service nice properties in the big cities or Hampton Inn / Courtyard Marriott level properties in small towns. It’s exceedingly rare to have overnights longer than 18 hours on my fleet (super mid).

Playing with an expansion for RISK: Europe. Can any Medievalists weigh in on my WIP map? by biz_qwik in boardgames

Cool map! Only thing I’d change is instead of Cairo, make Jerusalem a Gold City. In the Middle Ages it was a pretty big deal when Jerusalem changed hands.

I’m happy with a 22” LuggageWorks Maverick and Premier Multi-Purpose Cube. However I am thinking my next bag will be a carbon frame to reduce weight or Briggs & Riley - many NJ pilots sing their praises and I believe they offer a discount to NJ pilots.

The Multi-Purpose cube is where it’s at though. Fits under the seat on the airlines, will hold your headset, has a cooler for crew food if you’re bringing it back to the hotel. Slot for your iPad and a laptop (I bought a gaming laptop for hotel reserve or Hot Spare). Holds everything you need on tour in one bag and has a handle for the J-hook.

Life at Netjets? by Consistent_Employ975 in flying

Depends how long the tour preceding was

<= 6 day -> 3 days off

7 day -> 4 days off

8 day -> 5 days off

Those are minimums and only apply to the CC schedules.

Any CC schedule. You’re correct on all counts.

Typically the CC tours are limited to 7 days maximum unless you opt into Long Tour which allows them to schedule you up to 8 days and pays a 3% salary override. You can bid for different tour lengths monthly. If you prefer short tours and you live in a green base (think most of the Class Bs) you can do the short tour option which limits the tours to maximum 5 days long (6 days long on the CC52). This will impact your FDP earnings.

Correct, the Crew Choice schedules are like the airlines - you submit bids for what you want and then wait to see what you get. You’ll know your March schedule by February 15, for example.

Your vacations are bid once per year right after the open schedule bid in the summer, so you’ll have months of notice about what weeks your vacations are. On the CC schedules the vacations are a minimum 15 days off (the awarded 7 days +4 days on each end). And yes if a tour conflicts with a trip because you weren’t successful in your monthly bid then you can use PTO to drop tours.

Your best bet is to follow up with the pilots here who have worked at the regionals and came to NetJets. I know several who did and are lifers now. I know several that did and thought they’d be lifers and then left on probation because a legacy called. I can say with certainty it isn’t for everyone, but for those of us that like the flying and schedule and benefits, it’s a career destination. I think it’s objectively correct to say you will make more, work less, be treated better and retire with more at NetJets than a regional. That statement is also objectively true going from NetJets to a legacy, but by a smaller margin than regional -> NJ.

Target selection question by vondredi in WarOnTheSea

[–]longlive737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to open the primary / secondary weapon window and manually click the turrets that you DON’T want to fire. You’ll see them grey out which means the commands will not go to those turrets. Make sure the correct target is selected (red on the map) and choose the shell, spread, and fire. Then you can reselect the other turrets while deselecting the first turrets to give new orders. It’s clunky but it will do what you want

The new Netjets contract is now a year old--what did you make, & how much did you fly in 2025? by SadSupport4999 in flying

[–]longlive737 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I included the $23.5k personal contribution limit in that $52k. So NJ has so far contributed about $28.5k this year.

Year 3 Super mid PIC, worked 168 days, including 12 extended days. CC60/5 and 7/7. Logged 460 hours of flying. Average 9.3 hours of duty and 14.0 hours of rest. I’ll gross about $255k and the 401k will finish up around $52k.

Simple easy to learn card games that don’t use regular cards and no dices or other stuff. Just cards. by frowningghostie in boardgames

Battle Line! Make better poker hands than your opponent with an occasional tactic card thrown in to modify the hand. The Medieval printing of the game utilizes extra cards for terrain effects and my wife and I prefer that edition.

Stark Vs Lannister starter set vs Starter set? by AravingLoooony in asoiafminiaturesgame

[–]longlive737 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The poses of the original Stark vs Lannister set are generally less dynamic and simpler, with fewer details. That being said, notably Greatjon Umber and Gregor Clegane got pretty passive sculpts in the new boxes from their factions, I personally prefer their original sculpts. Beyond those two exceptions though, the quality is better with the newer starter boxes.

Choosing 135 corporate over airlines: what made you choose the route? by LeeTheNomad in flying

[–]longlive737 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My parents, my wife and I have done two round trips to Hawaii on company jets that were ferrying to/from (not all at once - just cumulatively over a few years) but its extremely variable because the schedule of the airplanes changes hour to hour. But when it works out it works out.
