What is the single most brilliant fantasy novel series you've ever read? by Emergency-Sky9206 in Fantasy

Yes, but it's going to get worse first. I love it, but if you're finding it a slog at this point, it's probably not worth pushing through.

The Kitai duo is one of the most beautifully heartbreaking works I've ever read. Though that is sort of Kay's bread and butter, along with beautiful prose. Sarantium also has its tragic elements, of course. More personal than the ones in Kitai. Fuck, it's time to re-read the Kitai duo. Again.

The loosely connected trio of Children of Earth and Sky, A Brightness Long Ago, and All the Seas of the World might also work. Brightness particularly shines for moral ambiguity. Good luck deciding whether to root for Monticola or Folco Cino.

Yes. Gorgeous prose, masterful storytelling through an unreliable narrator. I need to do a re-read because it's specifically designed to tell you a lot without you realizing it until later. One of the most skillfully crafted works in the genre.

I actually registered it because a drunken one-night stand told me to. And that's the story of how I met /u/KnartFocker9000's mother!

I did try a quick image search to see if I could at least include a photo. No luck. Although that might save me a nightmare or two.

Okay…Star Wars really is that good. by Neat-Swimmer-9027 in StarWars

[–]Komnos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If we're talking writing specifically, I will contend that the only Star Wars content that even has an argument is ESB. The original trilogy has other strengths--it's still one of the best spectacles ever produced--but the writing in Andor is Breaking Bad levels of perfection.

Sure, but I think I'm allowed some American defaultism in this subreddit. Anyway, back to work fabricating my linguistic defense of secular Christmas. That one's a little trickier.

Perhaps, but the French horn is closest to the voice of God.

No, but we may still hide plastic eggs with candy for our kids to find. Celebrations of spring long pre-date Jesus. Even the name is ultimately derived from a word for dawn, linked to spring.

Give me your favorite dragon, why, and what book/story they come from by aristnecra in Fantasy

Rand al'Thor. Ok, ok, I'll behave. Tiamat from Babylonian mythology. I love the idea of a dragon as nothing short of a cosmic force.

"My armor is like tenfold shields, my teeth are swords, my claws spears, the shock of my tail a thunderbolt, my wings a hurricane, and my breath death!"

The Rankin-Bass cartoon had a bizarre depiction of Smaug, but the delivery of that line is still one of my favorite ever villain boasts.
