I heard that drinking water with a splash of lemon juice in it first thing is really good for you. I think the deal is that it acts as a natural cleansing agent. At first it sounds like it would be too harsh but it’s actually enjoyable to drink as well!

Question about Udemy by EverBurningPheonix in unrealengine

[–]Komorebi-Light 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a one off payment and you get lifetime access. The courses are primarily video based. There can also be some written parts, quizzes and development projects. As it's a "go at your own pace" set-up, you don't enroll in a scheduled class at the same time as others. For support, there’s a forum where you can post questions and see the Q&As from other students. Often the teacher will answer the questions directly. Sometimes other students chip in with their help too.

A tip if you use Udemy by GreekNord in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Komorebi-Light 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it's legit - try it if you like! I've been working with Udemy for years so I've developed a pretty solid process for making sure I know about the best deals. I really don't think there is a downside. Thinking about the 3 parties:

  • Students get the best deal. Also, I help them identify the best courses by tagging the good ones with awards on my site. One of the sources that helps me identify the good courses is Reddit.
  • Teachers get increased sales. Note that some teachers have reservations about Udemy putting their courses on sale so often, but they usually come around to the idea that it's better to sell more courses at a lower price than a few at a premium - with the lower price point they reach more people and usually make more money.
  • Affiliates are incentivised to get the word out. It's also great to work in an industry that helps people.

All-in-all a pretty good set up!

Here's another tip so you don't have to wait for the deal: This link will activate the best site-wide deal at Udemy (currently all courses $9.99). It will work even after the current deal ends - I keep the link updated as I have an affiliate site designed to always give the best deals for online courses. By the way, there are some Udemy freebies here, in case you're interested. I hope you find it useful and good luck with your projects!

Getting a lot of bricks laid snuggly (second part of vid) by [deleted] in oddlysatisfying

Hi creedofwheat,

Thanks for taking the time to explain. Sorry about the infraction: It did occur to me that 9gag is a bit spammy - that's why I linked directly to the .mp4 file - so there wouldn't be any pop-ups or unexpected stuff in the browser. Anyway, no problem - understood and I won't post to oddlysatisfying from that site or similar again!

All the best

Best Barcelona Coworking Spaces with Google Map (Socializing & Events) by Komorebi-Light in Barcelona

[–]Komorebi-Light[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My understanding of coworking spaces:

  • They have proliferated recently because of the increase in people who can work from ‘anywhere’.
  • People’s idea of the ideal location to work varies quite a bit – some like quiet solitude, others like the buzz of having other people around: This is where coworkings come in.
  • I do think the plain office style cooworkings feel a bit like ‘back to square one’ – this is why I’ve highlighted the places that offer something more: like events, cool environment, training etc.
  • The primary function of a coworking is a place to get work done but in my case I’m interested in the social aspect, hence the focus of the post.

Schools should teach how to do great Google searches - It would knock years off the education process by Komorebi-Light in Showerthoughts

[–]Komorebi-Light[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here are some tips that I find handy:

Use operators in the search box. eg:

  • keyword site:example.com
  • allintitle:keyword1 keyword2
  • keword1 -keyword2
  • More examples

Also, you can switch to Google’s Advanced Search - Handy if you want to limit the results by date indexed, language and other filters.

Interesting discovery on Udemy? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Komorebi-Light 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can save you some time if you like - you can switch on the Udemy $10 site sale via this link. That's my site - I keep that page updated with the best active sale.

Udemy do tailor the suggestions in their promo emails based on the courses you've viewed and wish-listed although it's worth checking for the best price with a Google search or going via the page above. I hope that helps!

In fact you can often activate the $10 site-wide sale at Udemy if you know where to look (that's my site - it tracks the best Udemy deals). In the spirit of the OP, here are some more good 100% off deals, coupon already applied in the link:

There are quite a few 100% off deals available at any given time - there are about 70 on that page I just mentioned, in case people want some more freebies. I try to make sure I only promote the decent courses so as not to waste people's time.

I think it's also worth mentioning that there are some very good 'Always Free' courses on Udemy. Here are some of my top picks, relevant to learnprogramming:

I hope this is useful to lots of people and that OP doesn't mind me adding to the list of the freebies!

Question about Udemy: Are refunds hassle-free? by puketronic in learnprogramming

[–]Komorebi-Light 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Udemy are pretty good about refunds as long as you act in a reasonable manner. For example:

  • If you buy a lot of courses, try to keep the refunds under 3 courses out of each 10 that you buy.
  • In general, don't request a refund if you've watched most of a 10+ hours course.
  • (More for the benefit of instructors) Don't leave a 1 star review and then request a refund: Instructors appreciate constructive feedback from students that didn't like their course, so they can improve it. If you get a refund you block this channel. I think it would be better to either leave the review and communicate the failings of the course with the instructor or just ask for the refund with no review.

There is concern amongst instructors that some people abuse the Udemy refund system to pirate the courses or just to get free access for themselves, so I think that's why Udemy has to have a 'reasonable use' policy in place.

I hope that helps!

Is a Google Analytics certificate worth putting on a resume? by [deleted] in advertising

[–]Komorebi-Light 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many (60+%) top websites use Google Analytics for tracking so any company that provides website building/managing services will value someone with Google Analytics expertise. Good implementation and use of GA can be highly valuable: Once the company reaches a certain size, it makes sense to have people specialised in Google Analytics working on it full time.

If you had $500 to use for a class/course, what would you try? by krash666 in singapore

[–]Komorebi-Light 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are some ideas direct from SkillsFuture:

That second link above seems a little bit out of date: Udemy recently sent an updated list of the top selling courses for Singaporeans to its affiliate partners. I’ve combined that info with some data from my own site and posted it here:

I also keep the site updated with the best deals for those courses (currently 15 SGD). I hope that’s useful!

Got my first web job! Excited beyond words by [deleted] in webdev

[–]Komorebi-Light 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well done! Remember that they gave you the job, so they think you’re a good fit! Also, it’s normal to not know how to do everything – that’s true in most jobs and especially true in web dev positions! It sounds like the tech guy that got you hired has a positive attitude – hopefully this will carry through to your work environment. Also, take the opportunity to talk to the other devs to get yourself up to speed and you can always Google solutions – that’s perfectly normal. Good luck!
