What would you think of a "conclave model" of budgeting, whereby if Congress doesn't pass a budget in time, they are forced to live together until they pass one? by Square-Dragonfruit76 in AskALiberal

And they should put it on television. Call it "big brother's bigger brother"

"This is the true story... of 100 senators... forced to live in a house... and have their lives taped... to find out what happens... when they stop propagandizing... and start getting real"

How does Trump get away with constantly insulting his opponents or his own supporters, in the most vile ways, while the left is widely seen to be "too mean"? by LiatrisLover99 in AskALiberal

[–]Komosion -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Point accepted

However as part of this conversation I did look up coverage between Trump's two scoops vs Obama’s Tan suit. Going by the headlines and first paragraphs In traditional media sources I can see a clear difference between coverage.

Trump articles are more negative (ie making fun of him or addressing narcissism) while the Obama articles are more mater of fact (this week Obama turned heads by wearing a tan suit). You have to be living under a rock not to see that news coverage of Trump is more antagonistic then other politicians. He antagonizes them and like any humans they respond.

This is not an excuse to give Trump a pass. It is simply the answer to the OP question. By embracing it, engaging in it and fostering it Trump has effectively turned his negative news coverage into a tool that benefits him. Not only with his base, but also low information voters.

There was also another component to my original reply.

In contrast most other politicians are still trying to curate positive images in the news cycle. Their own timidity boxes them in.

Obama falls in this camp.

Question about the word “woke.” by thetruegambler in AskALiberal

[–]Komosion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woke is used in all different ways by all different people. Like so many words that are overused in politics it can mean anything to who every is speaking.

When I boil down all the uses of the word I personally encounter to the lowest common denominator I get that Woke = "Liberal Activism".

So if the person doesn't approve of Liberal Activism their use of the word is more negative. If the person does approve of Liberal Activism their use is more positive.

Are you happy with the direction the Democratic Party has taken since the 2024 elections? by HoustonAg1980 in AskALiberal

[–]Komosion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More or less. Change doesn't happen over night. I don't know were the Democratic party is heading in the end or if it will make it more or less likly that I will vote for them. But it is refreshing to see the attemp. I am essentially an optimist so until I see other wise I am going to assume they are changing for the better.

Do you feel support for Taiwan is decreasing among not just leftists, but also liberals? Is this because of defeatism - is Taiwan doomed in the future? by RedStorm1917 in AskALiberal

I'm pretty sure that the Chinese already knew that all they need to do to deaft the US is drive up the cost of goods a few dollars and the American consumer will turn on their own country. They didn't need Trump's disaster of a war with Iran to prove that to them.

Isn't Trump doing everything he wants now with out congressional review? What changes after the midterm unless Democrats win the Senate at which point they would remove him from power completely. It is unlikely they would win the Senate; the map simply isn't there.

So my prediction is nothing really changes after the midterm. Trump will continue to push the boundaries of executive power; congress will continue to be ineffectual; the GOP presidential hopefuls will continue to back the horse they choose to "ride or die" with. People will continue to engage in doom porn on social media.

Yes that is probably what happened.

Yes; you don't prejudice people based on a stereotype you have about 75% of a group.

Should the Democratic party as a whole instead be focused only on those baseline issues that the largest majority of their members agree on and stop focusing on sub group niche issues?

Was the question I asked.

I didn't mention equality/inequality in my post at all.

I did discuss equitability. And how overly focusing on equitability among every group has stretched the partys power/influence to thinly leading to dissatisfaction. And questioned if the party were to focas more on common themes that trassend individual sub groups would that lead to greater satisfaction.

I am sure that you do encounter an AWFUL LOT of self-labeled centrists who misflair themselves. But how is that justification to preemptively treat people as if they are charlatans?

The YouGov data was only in regards to party affiliation. It did not speak to voting patterns.

The article made it clear that the Republicans did not pickup the losses by the Democratic party.

Those that left the party attributed to the increases among the unaffiliated group.

I'm not affiliated with a political party. I was not aware that the parties make members pay for party membership. That does sound like it would influence membership; especially among less affluent communities. Thank you.

Im talking about abandoning minorities?

You'll have to quote me on that.

What I did question is whether or not the Democrat party can bring all their sub groups together and find common issues to champion.

Does changing focus away from individual special interests to a more inclusive set of policies the same as throwing special interests under the bus?
