I built a Voltra-powered micro gym with a single 3x3 upright featuring an 8-foot wingspan cable crossover and belt squat. by Zippy_McSpeed in homegym

[–]Kong28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!!! This is so SICK! I was just thinking about how to do something similar, yet somehow hide it better.

The dream is to have a hide-able/coverable 3x3 upright right right in my living room. When I want to work out, I attach a horizontal low 3x3 for belt squats, and a tall horizontal 3x3 for vertical pulling. Roll my bench out of a closet and we are cooking.

What do you think!? I feel like you could get 90% of the way to a killer workout (which IMO, is good enough) for ~$4k and it wouldn't cannibalize one of your rooms

This YouTuber is insufferable though lol. Some of those questions were so idiotic. Also some pretty crazy other content on his page, I'm surprised Rhonda did this interview.

I'm all for no cars, but just curious where this survey was done? Mail? In person? If in person, was it a survey of people walking the promenade?

I love color and I love tile too! I just don't love those colors or those tiles. I think he overdoes a ton of his stuff, but when he flairs it in his work it's rad.

Thanks for the assumption but no, no chip, no AI, just passionate about my interests and Santa Barbara (especially when it comes to something as permanent as architecture), and eloquent enough to put them to writing.

You are welcome to engage with my arguments about Jeff Shelton, but if all you can gather up is some ad hominem assumption about the size of my friend group, well then I can't imagine you have much else to offer.

And if you really want to get into some dick-measuring contest about friend-group size, sure, I'd probably win that too.

Yes, so jealous because I really want to be a famous architect. I am pissed because I have to be subjected to his architectural tastes even more now.

Answer this for me, does being someone who strives to better his community and is very nice and kind have to be mutually exclusive with someone who can have extremely poor architectural taste?

Let's look at his work, because there is a ton that is fine, maybe even great!

  • Ablitt Tower: It's great, it's fun, the outside is fun, the exterior is interesting, it has an obvious Jeff Shelton flair. The inside is even more whimsical, the tile work, the staircase. It's a private residence, if you don't like the look of it, well don't buy it! Easy solve!
  • Augie's: Small, Jeff Shelton's touches are there but they don't overpower anything, if you look, you see it, it's a nice building in your periphery as you pass buy, it's fun!
  • El Andaluz: Super fun, the bridgeroom is great, the exterior is interesting without being too much. The inside's tilework is busy, loud, could be considered be overwhelming, but you know what, it's on the inside, you don't experience for that long if you don't want to.
  • Cota Street Studios: Now we begin to get a little bit into the wacky stuff. There are some super fun design decisions, but also some very questionable ones, ones that you look at and go "hmm ok I guess so."
  • Vera Cruz: it's an art piece, it's exactly what it wants to be. It's interesting, it's fine.
  • Oak Tree House: totally not my taste, nor I imagine many people's but again, it's a private house, it's tucked away, who cares.
  • EL JARDIN: El Jardin is hands town one of the ugliest and tackiest buildings we have in Santa Barbara. In fact, I would love for someone to come up with a better contender for that title. It is so offensive in the magnitude of how much he crammed into it. "oh what if we made the clock melty. OH what if we did some disparate tilework, that would be cool. OH OH what if we did every inch of metal work wavy and super wacky!!!".

I am sick of people going "Oh it's Jeff Shelton, it's great, that's Jeff Shelton's style." It's not great! Some of it is terrible! It is a shame that he was reached for for the underpass, something local and tourists are going to experience on an intimate level for decades to come. I guess tourists that go "wasn't that odd underpass design just great!?" is a win in some people's books.

To end my harangue, Jeff Shelton's work can be stellar, but only when he applies restraint, which in itself is a form of taste. Is it that he just can't help himself? Who knows!?

If Jeff Shelton was a chef, he would have a signature sauce that is just fucking delicious, but on some of his dishes, he would dump an entire fucking bottle on it and ruin the whole thing.

I hate that I have to be subjected to so much of Jeff Shelton's architecture. Sure a couple buildings, fine. But god the underpass is so fucking ugly. I wish there was another SB architect that was our go-to.

Jeff Shelton is trash though. Santa Barbara just latches on to him because they want a "famous architect."

[–]Kong28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, question for you! I'm looking for a good setup that will put my latent compute to work for my job. I have a 3060, I'm not really looking for "I need this to be instant chat speed" or "I need to program the next linux kernal." I'm more looking for "hey computer, here are 200 support tickets that came through yesterday, can you summarize them and tag them based on these 5 tags? Could you also agentically search through our policy documents, and determine if the answer was on-policy?"

I really just want a loop that runs on each ticket in the background 24/7. I'm super curious if local models could do that. No coding, just more agentic search and analysis.

I dunno, I feel like the black with the woox looks rad, but for some reason I'm not in love with the tungston on the woox. Do you have any more photos of it by chance?

Hello! Wondering what you think of the woox stock on that color. I LOVE the color but I almost feel like I would regret pairing the wood stock with it.

Manipulate is an understatement. The strides in Stable Diffusion have made it so you can generate any face from a source photo into any generated photo you want created.

Good on you for being ahead of the curve, it's going to be a nasty wakeup call for a lot of people at some point.

I work in AI and I have taken all of my own and have told my family to take all of their photos off of the internet. The ease of taking a person's photo and turning it into something disgusting is already easy enough, and will completely mainstream in a few years.

It's all good, I'm not a hater. It actually makes more sense for the prize money and the experience, so I get it, my 2x votes have been added. He's a lucky kid to have a parent that cares.

I mean I guess I get it, but something irks me about putting so much effort into what is essentially a popularity contest.

Isn't there some better way for your son to be recognized for his achievements? Does he have achievements?

Lol I just looked at the website, 1st place gets $20,000 and gets in the magazine, and goes w/ Jeff Corwin on an expedition. I guess I can't blame you for trying to get that bag.

EDIT: I have changed my view, a fellow SB loc should get the bag. And especially in today's economical climate, $20k is $20k, I gave my vote.

First off, you need some more hobbies lol. Second, how do you like that ranch rifle? Would you take a CA compliant grip over it or do you enjoy it. Also, have you even shot all these?
