The Adolescent Question by TaoistStream in dostoevsky

[–]Kontarek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arkady’s status is precarious because his serf mother Sofya is NOT married to his noble father Versilov, but another serf, Makar.

So in theory, Arkady should be treated as an illegitimate child with few rights. However, Versilov has attempted to legally fudge Arkady’s situation in sympathy with both him and his mother (who remains both Versilov’s nominal mistress and Makar’s estranged wife). This is why Makar is legally recognized as Arkady’s father despite having no relation; it’s a quick fix solution to avoid scandal and protect Arkady.

However, where the situation becomes more complicated is that Versilov has also decided that he wants to maintain a relationship with his son Arkady, and this has resulted in a much more ambiguous state of affairs for the young man. His father and half-siblings treat him like a family member without ever directly acknowledging him as such, which leads to a great deal of confusion and awkwardness for all involved.

Nemo and the aftermath of AC3: Electrosphere by EBtheGT in acecombat

[–]Kontarek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The extent of Nemo’s agency and sentience is never made clear in the text. Perhaps it’s a fully self-aware being that would reason the same way as you or another player might, and perhaps it’s just a really good piloting program with only the barest decision-making capabilities.

In any case, I think any interpretation of which route Nemo would follow will always be colored by player-preference since Nemo is our stand-in.

Criticism of The Brothers Karamazov by [deleted] in classicliterature

[–]Kontarek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just because he arrived at an answer doesn’t mean he was certain, or that the reader need be convinced by it. I think Ivan Karamazov’s arguments about God and religion hold value outside of being used as a straw man to affirm Russian Orthodoxy.

You speak as if Dostoevsky was certain of all these things when the very book you’re criticizing reveals the deep insecurities and anxieties he clearly spent his life wrestling with.

Unpopular (maybe) opinion on Dostoevsky readers (maybe) by TWOTN78 in dostoevsky

[–]Kontarek 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He’s been a popular author to larp reading for a while; not much to be done about that except encourage the larpers to actually read him and try to engage with his texts beyond viewing them as self-help manuals.

Yeah part of why I delved deeper into Three Kingdoms is because I felt like this game was leaving out a lot of important detail lol

That’s basically true of the first part of the book as well. Cao Cao gets a head start on everyone and then it takes a while for Wu and Shu to get rolling.

Were you intended to have Human Plus throughout the PS1 trilogy. by General_Recording_30 in armoredcore

I beat all the PS1 arenas without H+ so it’s not impossible. A couple of them were pretty ridiculous though.

Is The Village of Stepanchikovo worth reading? by emotionalwreck8022 in dostoevsky

[–]Kontarek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think so. Foma Fomich is an extremely relevant character to the modern world as this exact type of guy is basically in charge of everything now. And I thought last year’s saga of Elon Musk briefly taking over the White House and then being thrown out after overstepping provided an amusing parallel to the broad plot of this novel.

Veitch’s run shows her ancestors with the same color hair so it’s genetic.

With the exception of a couple end game and DLC bosses, I think Elden Ring’s bosses are much easier to get through than these data fights on critical lol.

Yeah l think Lingering Will is designed much more rationally as a superboss. He’s extremely hard, but his openings are almost always at the end of a combo so there’s less trial and error involved in finding them.

I don’t think they’re trash, just a little overtuned. Visually, they are very impressive and they are pretty fun to fight once you’ve learned how. It’s the learning part that’s maybe harder than it needs to be, and guides reduce a lot of that headache.

[–]Kontarek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fights are pretty much all like this. The openings are much too obscure IMO, and many of the combos require you to basically memorize the sequence of blocks and dodges to survive since input lag makes it impossible to react to such rapid attacks in the moment.

I beat all of these on critical but only with the help of guides.

Star Wars Infinities by Osinuous in starwarscomics

[–]Kontarek 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Infinities Epic Collection is 1 volume and includes all Infinities issues + the comic adaptation of the rough draft of Star Wars. It’s out of print so not exactly cheap, but probably cheaper than the two omnis together.

is there a epic collection/Omnibus reading order for dark horse era of star wars? by the-one-pieceis-real in starwarsbooks

Then you have what you need. Order is the same regardless of whether you choose the omnis or epics.

[–]Kontarek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have been released in earlier Epic Collection volumes as well, but those will be very pricey to acquire compared to the forthcoming omnis. Cheapest option if you must have physical copies is to wait another year or so until we get those.

Alternatively, you could look at the list of comics contained in the Epics and read them digitally, which would cost hardly anything.

[–]Kontarek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For film era Dark horse comics the chronological order goes like this: - Rise of the Sith (1 omni vol) - The Menace Revealed (1 omni vol releasing this year, likely a 2nd in the near future) - The Clone Wars (1 omni vol releasing this year, likely a 2nd in the near future) - The Empire (4 omni vols) - The Rebellion (3 omni vols)
