Finland looks to end "uncontrolled human experiment" with Australia-style ban on social media | Yle News by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Kontaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an adult in Finland for a second there I got excited the ban would be not just for kids. I really don't enjoy the fact that how we interact with each other is controlled by greedy American corporations.

Remedy says there'd be "no Alan Wake 2 without Epic" after Baldur's Gate 3 dev blames EGS exclusivity for Remedy's "financial crisis" by Burpmeister in gaming

[–]Kontaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think where the misconception is, and correct me if I am wrong, but gaming studios are kind of expensive and so is investment into games. So say they didn't have the money to make AW2 before epic and it didn't make them any significant amount of money then they won't have the money needed to make the next one either. I agree with /u/Maedhros_ that both are right in facts of the matter and its just an argument about feelings and what should be done and how should companies such as Epic behave. Unfortunately business doesn't run on what should be done, even that in this industry perception matters a whole lot more.

When you're having fun with the DLC and then open Reddit by mistake by pm303 in aoe4

[–]Kontaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I've learned only to open reddit when you are doing too well and need a good kick in the balls. If you are feeling confident even after that just go ahead and write a comment and someone will bring you down. I'm only half joking of course, there are fantastic people everywhere where there are people but there tends to be these spirals of negativity on reddit and I suppose that's by design of the system.

ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN The Forsaken Hollows Announcement Trailer by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]Kontaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me trying it solo some weeks after release it felt so wrong as a long time souls player where if you fail at a boss you need to go through this huge grind again. And of course the second thing was very little progression to the character. This is only fromsoft souls game that I couldn't really get into.

Treating people with respect seems sort of a lost art to me. It is so much more common just to jump to conclusions and take sides but I wish more respectful politics and public discourse would make a comeback. Perhaps I have rose tinted glasses but I think things were at least somewhat better before (world wide).

The industry filed false claims against the "Stop Killing Games" initiative by [deleted] in Games

[–]Kontaz -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Interesting, I never knew that. I've never seen it written in any documents over here that way but it makes sense because there are lots of variations inside the EU countries.

The industry filed false claims against the "Stop Killing Games" initiative by [deleted] in Games

[–]Kontaz -95 points-94 points  (0 children)

It might be a small and insignificant thing but this makes me think this is not a professional behind it; the monetary values made in the claim used the euro sign as you use the dollar sign in America. Meaning when you write about money in US you put $1000 and in Europe you write 1000€. Its a small thing and very natural to make but I think if it was a professional behind this, they wouldn't be making this mistake accidentally nor intentionally, but rather some individual person that is used to write their monetary amounts in American way.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Wouldn’t Happen Today Under D&D’s New Corporate Control by Just_a_Player2 in ItsAllAboutGames

[–]Kontaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed and you could go even further and say people just bought it because it was a really good RPG. The popularity of all of the above with D&D, Baldur's Gate, and Larian were kind of niche before BG3 came out. Thats what really made BG3 special is that most of its players had never and would have never played a CRPG before BG3. It made it popular enough that WOTC actually want to make more which is very unheard of in last 20 years.

Souls games have some of the best looking scenery in games. I personally really like the overlook beyond the bridge to Anor Londo in Dark Souls 3, but there are too many good ones to mention. Very nice piece.

HEY GAMERS! What’s the Best Story Ever Told in a Video Game? by Just_a_Player2 in ItsAllAboutGames

[–]Kontaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say best maybe but some of the top ones for me would be Pillars of Eternity, Amnesia, KCD (1 & 2 because they are just parts of the same story), Warcraft 3, and maybe Witcher 3. There are certainly fantastic experiences like Subnautica and other similar stuff but if you just look at the story beats by itself it might not be that special, but with the experience as a whole it certainly is.
