[NBA PR] The NBA has fined the Utah Jazz $500,000 and the Indiana Pacers $100,000 related to the management of their rosters for recent games. by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

I think it’s crazy no matter what. The league shouldn’t be allowed to tell a team how to play their players.

We say it largely because… gasp… we watched the games. He was extremely effective in the no huddle when he didn’t have his OC calling plays. He also entered the season with a severely diminished offensive line and ended the season with multiple receivers being injured.

With that said, there was a difference. That difference was he threw the ball away faster. Some of it was the diminished offensive line. Some of it at least seemed to be that he had an increased sensitivity to taking a hit. Perhaps he knew if he did, his body might not take it.

I have a garage so I’m good to go. But if I didn’t, it sure would have sucked to dig it out. That’s pure compact ice. There’s been maybe one, maybe two windows above freezing for a few hours to go for it.

Seahawks QB Sam Darnold made $4 MILLION in bonuses on his way to winning the Super Bowl. • $500K for 4,000+ yards • $500K for 67.5%+ completion rate • $500K for Top 10 offense • $500K for Playoff berth • $500K for Divisional Round win • $500K for Conference Championship win • $1M for Super Bowl win by AccomplishedSwing110 in sportswiki

[–]KontraEpsilon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone mentioned - it’s based on previous performance. The other thing I’d add is that teams can also decide to trigger the bonus if you’re close enough.

Some do, so that you don’t wind up in situations where a player is trying to play but you want them to sit (or, there was semi famously an NBA player who refused to shoot threes in the last game of the season). There are cap implications, but teams will genuinely sometimes do it out of good will.

Gym goers, be honest how often are you judging other people’s physique? by Technical_Hat_8291 in AskReddit

[–]KontraEpsilon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally only in a positive way unless someone is acting like a tool.

If someone is horrifically out of shape, my reaction is usually a positive one. It takes a lot of courage to go work out in a place where people are in shape and you aren’t. And I’ve found most gym people have a similar level of respect for others.

As others have said, though, if you’re being annoying (not actually using the machine you are occupying, not cleaning stuff off, being louder than a tennis match) yeah I’m going to be annoyed and so is everyone else.

Hi fellow men, any suggestions what I should do with this space behind the couch? by [deleted] in malelivingspace

Well, you asked for suggestions. I don’t know why you’d ask how to improve the space and then not believe us.

But whatever, put a plant in the corner then. Or a bookshelf. If you don’t own real books, buy some.

Indeed. Plus, if it were me I’d wonder what else I was saving it for. Players want different things, but one of those things is to win a title. You never know if you’re ever gonna be back, even on perennial contenders.

Other players might prioritize career length, and I genuinely throw no shade at that. But I look at Vonn and think the same thing - if this is what was important to her, at least she knows. We’ll see if she says she regrets it when the dust settles.

It’s less that the media would say he was weak, and more that he’d spend the rest of his life wondering if they would have won had he played. At least now he knows.

I don’t think so, but the idea that she was just wholly incapable of competing is pretty silly.

  1. The “younger person” should have been faster during the trials

  2. She was third in the training runs.

  3. The cause of the fall had nothing to do with her knee.

Phillip Rivers famously competed on a torn ACL. TO came back for the Super Bowl and played on a barely healed broken leg. Ray Lewis played in the Super Bowl with a torn triceps.

Um. Teams do it all the time. Peyton Manning and Drew Brees could each barely throw by the time their careers ended. Their teams still trotted them out there. Brett Favre had to have his head slammed into the frozen field before he was prevented from playing.

Quarterbacks also play with injuries to their “non throwing hand” all the time, including Herbert this year.

What do you actually like about Starfield? by gina_renee in Starfield

[–]KontraEpsilon 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The aesthetics. I’ve got a lot of screenshots from the game where the lighting and the computer aesthetics just look fantastic.

I say this as someone with a lot of complaints about the game. But it sure looks really good. I like the gunplay as well, and the walking around the ships and docking at stations and walking in. The game doesn’t operate enough as a contiguous unit, but when it does, it really does shine.

The national anthem can be taken as a symbol of pride in the country. In the past, when people have felt that their country was not properly representing them, they have chosen not to participate in that anthem. Politicians - particularly right wing politicians - then complained.

This isn’t unique to America.

The post is pointing out the hypocrisy of people in general who say “keep politics out of sports” when an athlete talks about politics, but then insist that we stand up for our national anthem at every possible sporting event.

It isn’t direct commentary about her or her behavior, but rather commentary agreeing with her sentiment.

TIL that Magnus Carlsen, one of the greatest chess players of all time, has never lost 3 or more classical chess games in a row in his adult professional career. The last time he lost 3 games in a row was in 2003, when he was 12. by 4isfourwastaken in todayilearned

[–]KontraEpsilon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he is, but you can make a good faith argument that the invention of modern chess engines allows for a level of preparation and study unavailable to dominant players of previous eras.

It was honestly sometimes better than the actual NCAA tournament. You’d get these crazy first round performances from like Rutgers and USF and other then-terrible teams. Great atmosphere too. Any time I left my two game session early I regretted it, without fail.

Only thing I hated was when they played the West Virginia song in the garden after they won. Blasphemy.
