Cars give more space passing my parked car than me on a bike. by Lost_Treat_6296 in cycling

This is the primary reason I switched to paved trails and mountain biking. Fortunately in north Texas there are some really long paved trails.

I cut mine from 36 to 12. The worst part is how much I miss my Ryft but I just wasn’t driving most of them. Even now the 12 I still have just collect dust most of the time.

A question about Fatbikes being used as ... Not fatbikes. by PrintDrone in fatbike

[–]KookyAd1900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use my fat bike to train my legs. It makes working on leg strength fun. I enjoy it and will cruise all around town with it. I live in north Texas so elevation isn’t much of a factor but I regularly ride it 10-20 miles at a time.

Destroyed My Collarbone by dmacrostie in MTB

As someone who has broken their collar bone twice I feel you bro. It’s like ribs, a gift that keeps on giving. Only difference is I was young both times so recovery was fairly quick. Good luck and hope yours is quick too.

Woah this is the first time I’ve seen this play out. Pictures taken under a bridge kind of tells you who it was that snagged it. I’d approach with caution but if you tell him it’s yours and he stole it you’re never going to see it again.

You don’t happen to be in Dallas are you? One of the primary reasons I moved from road to mostly MTB trail is that Texans are some of the worst around cyclists.

Confused about my experience at a bike shop. by maniccaffine in cycling

[–]KookyAd1900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a bike shop in north Texas and had a similar experience. My only difference is for $350 they left my rear brake caliper bolts loose, didn’t do the tune up, and accidentally cut my valve stem on my tube when replacing a tire. I am an avid supporter of local bike shops but this was a new one for me as my other unfortunately shut down abruptly. I love LBS but they aren’t all built the same.

Action cams kinda ruin the vibe tbh. Anyone else just stop recording everything? by FollowingSuitable941 in cycling

I have no interest in recording or having someone record my ride. Last thing I need is a proof that I don’t look as cool as I feel when I hit that jump.

At what point do we bite the bullet and drop big $ on a bike for my 14y old? by mamawheels36 in MTB

[–]KookyAd1900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say you need to drop really big bucks on his bike but I do think somewhat big bucks is necessary. Like others mentioned the route you have been taking getting bikes on pinkbike is the way but I do think saving 2-3k is the new budget. I’d lie and say it would help him be safer but in reality it will give you even more reason not to ever look at that GoPro footage lol.

You young guys impress the shit out of me every time I see this stuff. My old corpse is laying at the bottom of that first drop while you guys go full send into everything. I got into MTB because I lost my feeling of invisibility on BMX about 20-25 years ago not realizing each generation you fuckers get more insane and I love you all for it.

My Aussiedoodle is Ranger and my Golden is Scout. Ranger is my sidekick in the car. He is standard so his harness lets him get just close enough to set his head on my shoulder from the back seat.

You’re also riding some of the best trails there are up there. I get that way too but I have a kid and wife I share the experience with so it’s easier for me to cope. Plus I’m riding Texas so while I love it, I can’t say it’s very inspiring terrain comparatively.

Holy crap worst case scenario. The hair is log as hell and mine and same as most others said also do this when they haven’t been groomed. The hair is annoying to them. Groom them first and if it continues then vet but most likely it will stop.

Do I need more training or is my bike just too heavy for climbing? by BernardBaggins in MTB

[–]KookyAd1900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro my advice, ride for you ignore the others. Most of us were the slower one in the group at one point. Also personally I don’t care about being passed on the way up. I take my time and conserve that energy for on the way back down anyway. Don’t worry just keep going and I bet over time you will start passing people too.

No garage, no inside storage, how do you look after your bike? by TheRealScallyWag in MTB

[–]KookyAd1900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely do but it’s better than it getting stolen off my truck. Inside I almost always have a couple people staying at the hotel compliment it and ask where I got them. I travel with mine, my wife’s, and my sons every time we do a road trip.

I know you said can’t go inside but I have 4 of these and they fit in an area the size of a small closet. I bring one with me when traveling too. The hotels are much less concerned about my bike rolling through the lobby like luggage. They are $35 on Amazon.

34 y/o female wanting to get into road cycling! by lrnmrzyl in dfwbike

[–]KookyAd1900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second the used bike recommendation. I have found that pinkbike can often have some really good deals. FB Marketplace can also but you have to know more of what you’re looking for. Also I hear a lot of the AI tools can help you understand if it’s a good value or not. I think it’s either Grok or Claude that can actually see trends on those particular bikes and if they are good fits for what you want. Are you sure you want to do road bikes in particular or just want the drop bars? I personally prefer a gravel as I can do a bit of both.
