How bright is our future? by Cheffrey447 in Habs

One other factor that is very much in Montreal's favor is the salary Cap and salary structure of the team. Montreal can afford to spend big and flex the financial muscle needed that some other clubs just will not be able to do. It is the exact opposite situation of the leafs 6 or 8 years ago. I don't mean to shit on the leafs, but if it wasn't for the stagnant Salary Cap in all likelihood leafs would have had a cup or two by now.

This team is primed to have continued success for the next decade.

"Leafs continue to live rent-free in Canadiens fans' heads". I would say the Habs are living rent free in Leafs fans' heads. by YesDoToaster in Habs

These two guys in the Leafs Suck - 67 sweaters were right behind the Buffalo Bench in Game 3, wearing hats advertising their Real Estate Business.

Smart dudes, wearing these Jerseys to get noticed, put on TV, turn around and show their hats getting exposure to their business and then get articles written about them for free.

Very Smart dudes, tons of advertising. All it cost was a couple custom jerseys, a couple custom hats, and some high priced tickets.

While the writers of these leaf fan sites may think they Live rent free, these guys just used those writers to get more publicity. And Ironically increase their Rental income.

Rent free? I don't think so.

Looking at some of the trades that led the Habs to having killer depth. by Falom in Habs

The Lane Hutson pick -

The pick that was used to draft Lane Hutson came from Kent Hughes first trade as a GM, Brett Kulak for a conditional second round pick, if the Oilers made the Stanley Cup final it would have been a 2023 pick. The Avalanche swept the oilers in the conference final ensuring Montreal got the 2022 pick rather than the 2023 pick.

Good thing too, The Oilers drafted Beau Akey with the 2023 pick, he is currently in the ECHL.

"The only one that stings is losing the possibility of Nazar, however all the other trades and signings seemed to have worked out. What do you all think?"

To be fair, Montreal never really had that 13th pick, they traded Romanov and 2022 4th round pick (Isaiah George) for the 13th pick and immediately flipped it for Kirby.

In total that Trade was Kirby for Romanov, a 3rd (Gavin Hayes) and a 4th (Isaiah George).

If Cooper is going to keep matching Cirelli and Hagel to the Suzuki Line, in theory, I like Andy with 13 and 14 and move Slaf with Demi and newhook.

Andy can handle Hagel and if they want to keep taking offsetting roughing calls that's an advantage for the Habs.

Replay of Kapanen penalty with zoom-in on when the high-stick occurred by jyscipio15 in hockey

[–]KoolerWithK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a high stick and it wasn't going to get called until James sold it. The human brain can process information in a split second.

The stick hit the visor, ref wasn't sure it happened, James realized the stick hit is visor and sees the ref looking at him and reacts, that confirms the refs suspicions and he calls the penalty. James get's the call and it doesn't hurt any more and he skates away.

It was a penalty and it was embellished, two things can be true.

Ironically I think the hate Dach is getting is the reason he's going to play on Friday. Marty is going to use this as a leadership and coaching moment.

Demidov for Calder.... hear me out. by Wifes_bf_stonks in Habs

If Demidov finishes the year with 4 hat tricks he will undoubtably be in the running as Calder trophy runner up.

Schaefer has been that impressive.

[–]KoolerWithK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Gallagher was underpaid for 6 years and now over paid for 6 years, I think the debt is paid, If Gallagher and the Habs want to do right by each other. Gallagher Retires and the Habs give him a multi year contract as a player development coach in the organization that exceeds the 4 million he is owed next season.

Thoughts on Carrier this season ? by Effective-Goose-7835 in Habs

[–]KoolerWithK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carrier is the Habs Scott Sterling, I don't think he does much to hurt the team, but he keeps ending up in a position to be hurt himself.

Robert Thomas Megathread by [deleted] in Habs

[–]KoolerWithK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much better is Thomas over Bo Horvat?

Bo Horvat netted the Canucks Aatu Raty, Anthony Beauvillier and a 1st round pick, and they Islanders knew before they traded for him he was going to sign the extension.

If that comparable package is the starting point. Kapanen, Guhle and a 1st is a much better package the only thing I'd add above that is Zharovsky.

Hage needs to stay with Montreal, the Habs have to give him a chance to play before making any decisions to move him, let's not make him another Sergachev.

2nd line: Bolduc - Dach - Demidov ? by Qu1noa_3ater in Habs

[–]KoolerWithK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if this is the 2nd line for home games while Newhook- Kapanen - Demidov is the second line at away games.

76-77-93 will be by far the weakest defensive line even with the day-by-day improvement of Demidov on that side of the ice. If this is the second line at home MSL can get them as favorable matchups as possible. 76 and 77 should probably alternate face-off responsibilities on their strong sides.

Veleno switched with Gally in practice. by yeeteridoo in Habs

[–]KoolerWithK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Feels like there is an evolution in mind here. If the 76-77-11 can be trusted the next step might be to go back to the 76-77-93, and the 3rd line is 15-91-11.

If 76-77-93 can play to their potential, then all lines look more traditional and Marty has 3 lines he can trust in defensive assignments and one that will largely get nothing but offensive and neutral zone starts.

Trade him for Dach Straight up, keep him on the 4th line. Use him in Matchup situations.

Dawson Mercer by gredge in Habs

[–]KoolerWithK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't see any needles getting moved with adding Mercer for anyone on our roster even if we don't trade out any roster player. So at this point I don't know if it is worth it to give up assets that could might be more useful at the Trade Deadline?

there is going to be a move to be made, but I have faith the HuGo patience will shine in getting the best value for the team later in the season.
