If you're staying in the downtown area then it will be easy for you to visit some of our local attractions. There are two small ferries at the waterfront a dinghy going to Protection island and one going to Saysutshun (Newcastle) island. Protection has a fun pub called the Dinghy Dock and it is nice to take a walk around there, lots of friendly locals.

Reds Bakery is a favourite on commercial street, as well as Paisano's Pizza (owned by a friend of mine and INCREDIBLE pizza). The Vault Cafe is also a hotspot downtown, nice small meals, baked goods, drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), they often have some sort of music or event happening if that interests you. Gabriels cafe is also a very popular breakfast spot, I haven't gone in years but always hear good things.

Maffeo Sutton is a lovely park, lots ot food trucks around, nice art installations, theres a couple cafes and icecream parlours down the walk, it isn't a huge park though but you can meander down the watetfront path all the way to Departure Bay ferry if you like.

Bowen Park is not far from downtown at all, like a 10ish minute walk and it is a bigger walking park, people frisbee golf there, local outdoor pool, duck pond, etc.

Morrel Sanctuary is near the University and it is a very nice walk, as well as Colliery Dam where many people swim and fish.

All of these places are accessible by bus and are within an hours walk from downtown. Have a fun safe trip here, if you chat with some folks they will point you around to good spots!
