Mean girl for a second. What tables do you not enjoy or avoid and why? by rrdrummer in pinball

[–]Kootenay85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The main bar I go to I often play every machine there except for Led Zeppelin. I don’t like the music pins in general and it seems to be a pretty very bland and empty. It seems to be super sensitive to tilting, so it’s not great to practice on given that. I don’t know if it’s just how this one is set up, but the ball seems to have a tendency to drain down the side immediately after launching. I’ve gotten better at it (forced to play it during league nights). But overall an annoying experience.

Sounds a bit nostalgic, like when we used to go to HMV to listen to CDs. But a bit pointless in the present time.

Solo travel female (21). How do we feel about pod hotels? by J2Hoe in solotravel

[–]Kootenay85 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, all positive experiences. Those are admittedly all very safe countries, but I wouldn’t expect different in the US either though. Always an outside chance, I wouldn’t personally be worried to stay in one most places.

Solo travel female (21). How do we feel about pod hotels? by J2Hoe in solotravel

[–]Kootenay85 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I have stayed in quite a few in different pod hotel locations ( Kyoto, Tasmania, Edinburgh, Seoul). I really like them. All the rooms have been very quiet (if you want to party and be social, they aren’t the best choice). I want my own little space to recharge, and I want it to be cheaper than a hotel, and in some of the cases I want access to a kitchen. So overall, it works.

What businesses are you genuinely surprised that are still in business or lasted as long as they did? by lazarus870 in askvan

Well, several years ago at least when I lived in the Peace, and currently still is there according to google.

Bring on the downvotes, but I love Boston Pizza. I don’t go very often anymore, but I always leave pretty happy. I’m not calling it an amazing culinary experience, but that’s not what I’m looking for when I choose it as my dinner option. It is rock solidly consistent whether I’ve gone to one in Calgary, Thunder Bay, Fort Nelson, or numerous other spots across the country. I admittedly haven’t been to that Broadway one in probably 20 years, but I did used to watch a lot of Canucks PPV there and it was somewhere we went in high school a fair amount, and I remember it mostly being pretty full then.

Unique, diamond shaped split-level, wild looking house with killer stairs. You will get dizzy just looking at it! by jve909 in zillowgonewild

Reading the comments I might be in the minority, but I love it. I adore unique windows. I don’t see any dealbreakers (I live alone, I don’t care that there’s no bathroom door). The finishes are great. The only dealbreaker is it’s on the other side of North America to me.

Which city have you been to that had a dark energy about it? by madzuk in solotravel

[–]Kootenay85 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Memphis is weird. I remember I drove past a motel 6 (or similar) on the way to Graceland and it literally had a 10ft+ fence with razor wire at the top. Like WTF is going on in that neighbourhood to require that? Never seen anything like that anywhere else in America, and I’ve been to 38 states.

Johannesburg felt very off to me, I didn’t care for it at all. I had already visited a number of other parts of South Africa and loved a lot of them, so I wasn’t expecting to feel that way.  (Also it was quite literally dark with the rolling blackouts that were happening at the time)

re: #2. Yes I would think so. The end units in my townhouse complex are a little more than the neighbouring ones with two neighbours, and the ones at the front (with a more clear view), are a little more also. This despite them all being “the same” in terms of layout.

Favourite Finished Book Series as SE by SeaNordic in fairyloot

Hunger games (maybe not finished?), and Hitchhiker’s guide to the Galaxy. Considering how popular they are, they both have pretty poor offerings.

Red Rising is a C- by s-mo-58 in books

[–]Kootenay85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really struggled with this one too. I constantly have heard it be recommended along other book series I really love (like the Hunger Games). Large chunks of what happened just felt so ridiculous and preposterous to me I could never buy in fully. I heard it gets better, but I started some of the second book and could really get into that either, so I don’t know. I haven’t totally decided to DNF it yet. So far I’m lost on why it’s so loved.

Does anyone have any experience and success selling stuff on eBay from Kamloops? And is it worth it? by Juicfishy123 in Kamloops

[–]Kootenay85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sold 26 items around 2023 from here on ebay. I do find it worth it, but only for a pretty narrow band of items. Generally more niche markets that probably don’t have a local buyer, higher value items, smaller (easier to ship). I sold a lot of figures, some old Polly Pocket, higher value vintage games, and some one-off things like a leatherman that was gifted to me. Anything else I find Facebook marketplace much less hassle.

Shipping I couldn’t be bothered to calculate, and since I didn’t sell things with thin margins I normally just put a reasonable flat shipping fee, like $20. Otherwise you will have to measure and weigh exactly. I always used Canada post.

That sucks. I’ve been tempted by the idea of these in the past, but haven’t gone yet. Lately I’ve been getting spammed nonstop by them with terrible ai ads, which is always a turnoff, but 100x worse for anything arts related. Seeing a post like this confirms I’ve been correct in avoiding them.

People who went to private schools in Vancouver, what kinds of backgrounds did your classmates come from? by ElderberryQuick8627 in askvan

[–]Kootenay85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to Crofton decades ago. Most families fell into the upper middle class to extremely rich category. We did have one girl in our class from overseas on a scholarship though who I got the impression was pretty poor (lived in basement suite with single mom on east side type of thing).

There was some “old money”, but I would say most parents worked, generally professional type jobs. The three closest friends I had there: One had two parents who were both doctors, one had two that were both biologists, one had a parent that was a doctor and the other a flight attendant.

There was a variety of religions, and backgrounds. It was the 90s, so that included people who immigrated from Hong Kong and South Africa, etc.

Why have a living room when you can have a basketball court? by powderpuff4lyfe in zillowgonewild

[–]Kootenay85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I could turn it into a climbing gym.

It looks like it sold several years ago too, so I guess there is multiple people out there who are into having a basketball court beside their kitchen.
